Dec 30, 2010I have an application where I have a dropdownlist with AppendDataBoundItems set to true. This allows me to add a select all ListItem with a value of "-1". I store the selected value in a session so that the selected value is retained if a user navigates away from the page then returns. This works fine for all values except for when the value is set to the appenddatabound item (All). When I debug i can see that the onselectindexchanged event does not fire when the 'All' item is selected. If a user navigates away from the page and comes back this 'All' value is lost as it is not stored in the session.

Nov 22, 2010I have a databound dropdown list (ASP.net). I want the page to load with a certain item as the selected item.
I am not adding a blank first row (thats not what i need)I find that I can get this to work with "AppendDataBoundItems" to true, but the side-effect is that I have all the items listed twice.

Here when i click on button it insert all data into table but it didn't insert my selected item from dropdownlist it insert select city that i define in page_load

Nov 23, 2010I have a field that is a DropDownList. When in the insert mode I want that field to be blank - It currently is displaying the first record in the table it pulls from. I was expecting to see an initial value setting in the DropDownList properties but do not. For example - suppose I have a field named locations that consist of 4 location (below). In "Insert" mode, location currently displays Dallas. I want it to be set to blank initially and the user select one. What am I mssing?

now when I bind dropdown list it shows space in first Item after that it shows other Item that bind from house_info table I mean in dropdownlist shows NULL value (Space) that is in Shoppingcenter column

Jan 31, 2011I have a databound FormView with a dropdown list of categories. All works as expected, but I want to provide the facility for the user to add a new category to the list and I can't find an elegant way to do it. My current approach is to have a simple modal popup (Ajax toolkit) with a FormView (bound to the Categories table). That successfully inserts the new row, but it doesn't show in the dropdown so it can't be selected. I can force a refresh by calling formview.DataBind() in a suitable event handler, but that of course moves the formview off the selected record and loses any changes the user may have made.
Is there a convenient way (perhaps using AJAX, avoiding a postback entirely) to update the Categories table and refresh the dropdown without moving off of the current FormView's record? I feel sure this
must be a frequent and basic requirement, but I've not found any mention of how to implement it.

Jul 7, 2010I have a project that queries a set of times from a database and uses these entries to populate a dropdownlist. Once the page is loaded, the user can select one of the items in the DropDownList. When the "Save" button is clicked, the Selected item value is returned to the [HttpPost] version of the controller action. This item is then stored into session. If the system returns to the page containing the dropdown, I want the saved Value to be selected in the DropDownList. What actually happens is that the DropDownList is always set to be the first item in the list.

Nov 16, 2010I have a dropdown list within a details view that allows me to set 1 or many categories to a perticular record(in this case a photo). The select command in this case only displays those catetegories that are not already attached to the selected photo.
all works well and as you select a category and add it to the database the category is removed from the dropdown list and is added to a gridview which shows all categories that photo is stored with.
My Problem is that when i delete the category from the gridview the dropdown list does not delete with said deleted item unless i do a "click in URL bar and press enter" to totally refresh the page.....
how to refresh the dropdown list in the details view after the gridview item has been deleted?
