Web Forms :: DropDownList AppendDataBoundItem Does Not Fire Onselectedindexchanged

I have an application where I have a dropdownlist with AppendDataBoundItems set to true. This allows me to add a select all ListItem with a value of "-1". I store the selected value in a session so that the selected value is retained if a user navigates away from the page then returns. This works fine for all values except for when the value is set to the appenddatabound item (All). When I debug i can see that the onselectindexchanged event does not fire when the 'All' item is selected. If a user navigates away from the page and comes back this 'All' value is lost as it is not stored in the session.
I have a dropdown list that is populated by a dataset (Data being extracted from DB). Based on the selection made by the user I call OnSelectedIndexChanged, and populated the form with the relevent info. The problem I am having is the first item in the list is selected by default, so if the user selects this option OnSelectedIndexChanged does not fire. To work around this I add a default item to the dropdown list after populating it with the dataset as shown here;
jobStandardActList.Items.Insert(0, jobStandardActList.SelectedIndex = 0; jobStandardActList.SelectedValue = "----Select an Item----");"";
This works fine, however if the user selects an item from the list, and then proceeds to selects the default item "----Select Item----" i receive an error. sys.webforms.pagerequestmanagersevererrorexception: an unknown error occured while processing the request on the server. The status code returned from the server was: 500
I have a radionbuttonlist with 4 options, but none are selected as default (by design).How do I trigger an event when a users selects one for the first time? My onselectedindexCHANGED works fine.
I have an asp.net page with a list box on it. Multiple event handlers subscribe to its OnSelectedIndexChanged event.
When I change the SelectedIndex programmatically none of the events get fired.
Now a hack for this is to call each event handler, but this has already caused bugs since people didn't know they had to do this when adding a new event handler.
I can do this in a Winforms app and even when SelectedIndex is changed in code the events fire.
I have a gridview where the dropdownlist is built during the RowDataBound event. I need to be able to poup a window based on the selection from the dropdownlist Items.
I cannot use Repsonse.Write("window.open('link');") coz i will need to redirect to the webpage which clears out the search on the page.
I need to be able to open a new window with the link and continue executing code on the page.
I have tried,
1) Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(Me.GetType(), "openwindow", "window.open('" & link & "');", True)
2) Dim s As System.Windows.Forms.HtmlWindow s.Document.Window.Open(link, "", "", False)
3) Process.Start(link) - this works locally but dosent on the testbox
I have a DropDownList that is supposed to redirect the user to a page when they change the selected index of the DropDownList. I have three parameters that are being passed by this redirecting. The first time the user changes the selectedindex, it does not work. but every time after that it works.
I have a list of items in a GridView, with one column I'd like editable through a DropDownList.I do not wish to put the GridView into 'edit' mode or have any 'confirm/update/save' buttons.. I just want autopostback on the DDL, and an OnSelectedIndexChangedevent to update the row.Problem is, from my OnSelectedIndexChangedevent within the DDL, although I can see the new value to save, I can't discover the row to update from the GridView.Can anyone see how I can achieve what I wish? Other than perhaps storing the row id within the DDL? Maybe turn it around so the GridView's events are called?
How would I get the previous item on DropDownList before OnSelectedIndexChanged fires the event?
I had a DropDownList that has names as its items ("John", "Mark"). By default the SelectedIndex is "John". Upon changing its index and selecting "Mark" the event OnSelectedIndexChanged will be triggered. When I use ddlName.SelectedIndex it will return only the index for "Mark" which I want to get is the index of "John".

I wanted to create a dropdownlist that would trigger an asynchronous postback and update the Gridview inside the Updatepanel. However, no matter what I do, when the dropdownlist changes, nothing in the UpdatePanel will change, even the TestLabel....I've been banging my head against the walls for days on this -- why won't this work? When I remove the UpdatePanel code and triggers, all the code works, eg, you change the dropdownlist andthen gridview updates -- but it refreshes the page and this is why I wanted to put the Gridview inside an Updatepanel to make it look cleaner.[Code]....
I have a gridview and dropdownlist, let say the content of dropdownlist is YEAR and the content of gridview is Name and Year. Now for everytime I change the Value of dropdownlist the content of gridview will change but it will not load the page

I have certain things to do when DropDownList.SelectedValue = "Yes" so I can use SelectedIndexChanged event handler & AutoPostBack="true" when submitting form for the first time. Now when I edit the information(Data filled from table as stated above). How can i automatically fire all events like DropDownlist SelectedIndexChanged in the page_Load iteslef so that all the things that are supposed to be done when DropDownList.SelectedValue = "Yes". I have a DropDown which is bounded to an ObjectDataSource. On its data bound event, I am adding "--select--" value on the 0 index. I have a LinkButton on the page and on its client click, i am selecting different item on drop down (using JavaScript). Suppose there are 3 items like --select--, option1, option2 and option3 and now on link button's client click i selected option3, now if I select the default value "--select--", it does not fire the SelectedIndexChanged event. If I select any other value then it fires. Why does it not work for the default value?

How can I fire a ModalPopupExtender on the SelectIndexChanged event of a dropdownlist?
I only want it to fire when a particular value is chosen in the list.
I tried leaving the PopupControlID value out and calling .Show() on my extender in the onselectchanged event, but it would not allow me to have a blank PopupControlID. If I set the PopupControlID to the ID of my dropdownlist, the popup fires as soon as I click on the dropdownlist control.
I have a panelA with a drop down list (ddl1) and a panelB with 2 dropdown lists (ddl2 and ddl3).
I am disabling PanelB in the page_Load section. When a selection has been made in the ddl1 in panelA, I am enabling panelB in OnSelectedIndexChanged event to enable ddl2 and ddl3.
This process is working, but as soon as I make a selection on ddl1, the whole page reloads to enable ddl2 and ddl3, which feels odd. How can I make it just reload panel3 not the whole page? I guess it can be done using AJAX update panel but as soon as I put <%@ Register Assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" tagprefix="ajaxtoolkit" %> and <asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>, I start getting wierd error: Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.ArgumentTypeException: Object of type 'Object' cannot be converted to type 'Array'. I've got a UserControl that's used inside of an UpdatePanel. The UserControl is a fairly simple form that appears via a ModalPopupExtender (which is also part of the UserControl). There are four DropDownLists, as well as some other UI elements. Three of the four DropDownLists have AutoPostBack="true", with SelectedIndexChanged events that fire on the server and cause some of the other DropDownLists to rebind. Two of the three DDL's that AutoPostBack are working fine. One of them, which I only just added, is showing some strange behavior. Let's say I bind five Items to it: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I set the SelectedIndex to 0, which makes 1 the selected item. If I select 5 and then 1 and keep toggling back and forth, everything works fine. The postback occurs and SelectedIndexChanged fires. Every time. If I ever select 2 or 4, the postback occurs but SelectedIndexChanged does not fire. Every time.
If I ever select 3, something bizarre happens and sometimes the value of the DDL reverts to 1. Even though breakpoints seem to show that it's not rebinding and no unexpected code is running. I know your first instinct will probably be that I'm wrong about the rebinding code not running, but I have literally been staring at the debugger for hours trying to find my mistake. Lots of breakpoints. I don't get it -- this really isn't that complicated. But obviously I am missing something. I've put about four hours into this so far and I think I'm just grinding at this point. I could use another perspective.

I create a dropDownList in code-behind, in selectIndexChange of another dropDownList, and add this new dropDownList to page using a placerHolder, everthing its ok, but new dropdownlist selectIndexChange event dont fire!
