Web Forms :: Changing Custom User Control And Event Handling
Jul 29, 2010
I have a custom ascx user control on my page that includes a dropdownlist. There is an onSelectedIndexChanged event handler that is connected to this dropdownlist. The first time the user selects a value, the page does a postback and the logic executes correctly. However, if the user then goes to change their selection, the event handler does not get triggered.

I am creating a webform in which I am having two radio buttons (Yes/No), one textbox, and two lables.
I want to enable and disable the textbox on radio button click Yes and No respectively.
I want to use custom server control for this whole process as we have to use this DLL in other application also.
Being as beginner I got just confused about event handling methods for server controls.

I'm creating a custom ASP.Net GridView and I want to be able to alter the __EVENTARGUMENT value but I can't figure out how to capture the returned value on the server side.
I'm creating the ability to have a collapsible representation, so the first level is the standard GridView and I will insert additional rows via JavaScript if they expand the first level row.
My problem is how to create a link on the selecond level rows that posts back with custom data.

I am trying out some code which enables me in creating a page with extension .asp2
The tags included will also be custom, something like:
[code]....
I have done the necessary changes so that ASP.NET identifies the extension. I have also kept a mapping of custom tags and asp.net/html tags with myself. With this I am able to render the page on browser. But how can we do event handling(usually done by page postbacks and code) in such a scenario?

I'm using DotNetOpenAuth as my membership system, and the way I have it working now seems to be working quite well. What I'd like to do however is build into my website the ability to check user credentials against the AuthCookie rather than a session. In the membership provider, I can check for the username like this
string UserName = System.Web.HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name;
''# which returns the OpenId ClaimedIdentifier
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to extend this so that I can retrieve custom properties from the AuthCookie rather than having to create my own session object. Currently I have this setup.
UserSessionModal
Namespace Domain
Public Class UserSessionModel
Public Property ID As Integer
Public Property RegionID As Integer
Public Property Username As String
Public Property Slug As String
Public Sub New(ByVal user As User)
_ID = user.ID
_RegionID = user.RegionID
_Username = user.UserName
_Slug = Replace(user.UserName, " ", "-")
End Sub
End Class
End Namespace
BaseController (inherited by all controllers)
Protected Overrides Function CreateActionInvoker() As System.Web.Mvc.IActionInvoker
''# Create a UserInfo object for the logged in user
''# and store it in a session state.
If Session("UserInfo") Is Nothing AndAlso User.Identity.IsAuthenticated Then
Dim user As Domain.UserSessionModel = New Domain.UserSessionModel(OpenIdService.GetOpenId(HttpContext.User.Identity.Name).User)
Session("UserInfo") = user
End If
Return MyBase.CreateActionInvoker()
End Function
Then in my views I do something like this
<%
Dim user As MyApp.Core.Domain.UserSessionModel = DirectCast(Session("UserInfo"), MyApp.Core.Domain.UserSessionModel)
%>
<%: Html.ActionLink(user.UserName, "Details", "Users", New With {.id = user.ID, .slug = user.Slug}, Nothing)%>
What I really need to be able to do is remove the Session stuff all together and just simply check the AuthCookie for my custom properties ID, RegionID, Username, and Slug. I can already get the "ClaimedIdentifier" out of the AuthCookie using HttpContext.User.Identity.Name... I just need to be able to extend it.

I have a user control called ucTriStateButton. It raises an event when it is clicked, called TriStateButtonClicked. If I put this user control on a page, it works fine. Here is the declaration on the .aspx page:
[Code]....
When the button is clicked the method tsbTest_TriStateButtonClicked executes correctly.
The problem is when I put the user control in template field of a GridView.
[Code]....
There is no way to hook the event handler to the control in Page_Load because I cannot get a reference to tsbMorning. So I did it in the RowDataBound event handler of the GridView, where I also do a bunch of other row-specific stuff. Although this builds and runs, the event is never actually subscribed to and so never gets fired.
So the question is - how can I handle an event from many instances of the same user control within a GridView? I am calling the same bit of code regardless of which user control is actually clicked. I only need to know that one was clicked.

I have a custom control which inherit from the Table class and in the constructor, it takes a an integer as an argument. There is no empty constructor.
Is there a way for the user to set that variable in the properties window after they drag the control onto a form.
I know some .NET controls, you can set the source for the parameter to different things like another control's property, QueryString using just the properties window.
Right now, I have to create the control dynamically. I read the query string and then created the object.

I have created a user control and am ready to convert it into a custom control. I am trying to follow:
[URL] the steps mentioned in the link.
I am not seeing Build / Publish Web Site option.
I am using VS 2008. I only see Publish User Control but it doesn't give all the settings mentioned below. When I do publish user control, it just copies the ascx file to the desired location. how can I convert the user control to custom control.

I have a User Control which consists of a TextBox with a few extras, but for purposes of this example just assuming it's a plain TextBox will be sufficient. I am calling this User Control from a Web Form and would like to be able to use a RequiredFieldValidator that basically would function the same as if I used it on a TextBox on the web form. How do I configure my User Control to handle this?
EDIT:
DatePicker.ascx
<asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="myControlTB">
DatePicker.ascx.cs
[ValidationProperty("Text")]
public partial class DatePicker : System.Web.UI.UserControl

I have a user control which I am dynamically loading in my page_load event via a method (see below). The user control contains a gridview and a label. A key piece of information has to do with how to get around the convenient feature of gridviews not rendering when their datasource is empty. In my user control I add some hidden rows so that the grids will render and the user can see just the headers (if the situation calls for it).
The nomControl is an asp:Panel on the parent page which will hold the user controls. The dsRefinedProductsNomInfo is a strongly typed dataset.
[code]....
how I should be handling my events so that my rendered grid is up to date and not showing these hidden rows. I have a feeling I am just doing things in the wrong place/order but this is my first real swim in the deep end of the asp.net pool.

I have a simple user control(.ascx) with a asp label inside of it. Using the codebehind(C#) from a aspx page, how can I change the text of that label? I have tried using public classes in my user control and a few other things that I could think of off the top of my head. Can somebody give me a quick example of how this would be done?

I am part of a team that is developing a SharePoint web part. My task is to create a user control which will ultimately be wrapped in another class for presentation in a web part. Because of these requirements, I must fit all of my code in a single user control.To organize my code in the code-behind, I created a few private classes for the different objects which are represented in the database. I want to add some exception handling whereby if some sort of DB exception is thrown I can update a message on the page informing the user of the problem.
My problem is that the page-level controls are inaccessible from the private class where I'm issuing the query, so even if I catch the exception I have no way of directly accessing a Label control to populate the error. I tried to create a baseclass with an EventHandler defined, but when I throw events from the private class I'm not able to catch them for whatever reason. I'm far from an OOP expert Here is a snippet:
ASP Code:
using System;
using System.Collections;
[code]....

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005.
I have a page books.aspx that has a control named authors.ascx.
Inside the authors control there is a "select" button I want to add some kind of listener or event handler (not sure of the correct terminology) so on the parent page (books.aspx) I can respond to the "select" button being clicked.
I have to pass the authorID from the user control to the parent page.
In my authors.ascx control I just created this event:
[Code]....
Now I need to write the function for SelectAuthorBtnClick and I think add some kind of listener in the parent page to listen and handle the event.

I have a gridview called gvResults. In the gvResults_RowEditing event I add a row below the one selected. In that new row, which spans all columns, I insert a user-control. There are two buttons and some textboxes in the user control.
My problem is that when I click one of the user-control buttons it never gets to the button event handler, I think because the user control is not recreated on the page postback. How can I have the user-control events fire before the parent page events fire?
I tried using an update panel, but I still get the parent posting back before the user-control events.
