i have a file upload control in my form.
How do i check if the user has chosen a file to be uploaded or not.
At present the selected file uploads however if no file is selected the script crashes...
i am uploading a file through file upload control , file size has greater then 4 MB, I have to give the proper alert msg to the user that file size exceeding the limit.how to do it , because at server side it is crashed on the IIS and not return to the server to check the file size validation.that how it is possible to validate the file size and give the proper alert messege

In my asp.net application, user can send/upload aspx files & those files can be accessed by the users later(there need to implement code level security as it would be better to run the application with minimal permission). So now I need to store these files & where is the better place to store in it. Shall I create a folder giving low permission inside the current project? or shall I create separate virtual directory like "www.mydomain.com/files" & place in it. I want to prevent the restarting of application domain also.

View 3 Repliesi have an ASP.NET website which is using a filestream to read in a PDF image from a UNC share on a remote server 2003 box.
i attempt to load the file on the site (which simply embeds a PDF viewer on the site) but when i debug the code, it's throwing a security exception when i attempt to access the file. saying "access to ___ path is denied".
so... i granted access to the UNC path directory to the ASPNET user. i also granted access to the user that's specified for anonymous access in the site itself in IIS.
nothing.
however, i grant "everybody" access and the file comes through.
so, i need to know WHO is trying to access the file. the assumption is either the ASPNET user or the anonymous user setup in IIS. neither of which is gaining access. i tried to set up file auditing on the server2003 box but it's not logging a failure in the security event log when i get an access denied exception.

1. To restrict Users to not to upload some type of file like.exe
2. To restrict the user to a specific size limit.
I also wanted to be able to display appropriate messages to the user if the abover restrictions are violated.
Can I use the validations control to achieve the above goals. As I am already using these controls to display appropriate messages to the user in case of wrong/invalid data.

After the file is uploaded, Users can fill up other question in the web page. then users click the submit button to register them and the file is uploaded previously is move to special folder and is saved there. What I want to do is to get only one file per user as the fileID along with the location is saved in for every user. I ran a query to get the fileLocation and pass that location stored in the database instead of the current server path but I can't figure out how I would do it.
