SQL Process Design Connect To Multiple DBs?
Aug 11, 2010Web server running an ASP.NET site that's connected to a sql server instance for all the web related DB needs (products, pricing, users, etc.)...
The companies accounting, inventory control(FIFO, etc.) and whatnot are mainly done on another system which uses a different SQL server...much more complex, for obvious reasons.
What I Need
What I need is to retrieve the current quantity on hand for every product that's on the web by connecting to the internal accounting sql server, even though the website uses a different sql server for it's own requirements.
The reason I can't have the information that is required to calculate the quantity on hand for every product on the web to be on the same sql server is because there are way too many tables that are needed to calculated that information...what's on purchase order, what's on sales order, and the physical inventory.
What is the best way to accomplish this without altering either database?

Aug 31, 2010I have code that runs under IIS6 & ASP.Net 2.0, that won't run under IIS7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2. I am assuming I have a configuration problem - but I don't know. On a Windows Sever 2008 R2 system: From inside IIS (v7.5), an ASP.NET process will not connect to port 21 (ftp) on the ICS (using System.Net.Sockets.Socket), it fails, logging an error that it cannot connect to the system at nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn. But, from a command prompt on the same server though, I am able to connect via ftp to the system at nnn.nnn.nnn.nnn. I am using the DefaultAppPool.

And the connect throws an exception - unable to connect I'm firing up wireshark soon and I'll see what if anything is getting across the wire? particularly if you think it's administrative in nature, cause that's a real weak point for me.

Jul 23, 2010I have a stored procedure which fetches data after joining 8-9 tables and inserts that into a temp table. It was running fine till now, but now when the amount of data fetched have exceeded 20000, the SP is breaking. I have debugged the sp and found that this main query is failing after returning arround 15000-16000 records.
The error message says Transaction (Process ID) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. I know what is deadlock, but when i checked with SP_LOCK stored proc i only found that my process is running on database only. So how is this getting deadlocked when there are no other processes running simultaneously on server.

Jan 7, 2010I have developed an enterprise application in ASP.NET that sends emails using localhost SMTP server on the same box as the IIS web server for the ASP.NET app.
So right now any email sent from this ASP.NET app would hit internet firewall of the enterprise and then be directed to the right destination email address.
I was hoping to not hit the internet firewall of the enterprise, but hit the Exchange Server of the enterprise.
So the situation I am aiming for is: ASP.NET APP ===> Localhost SMTP SERVER ===>EXCHANGE SEVER 2003 ===>SEND OUT THE EMAIL
rather than ASP.NET APP ===> Localhost SMTP SERVER ===>SEND OUT THE EMAIL
So I still want to use the same mail configuration in my ASP.NET app of localhost as SMTP server, but just want the email to first go through Exchange Server before being sent out.

I'm developing with VS 2008 ASP.Net 3.5 C# and System.Net.Mail.MailMessage. I can create and send the email with no issues. The problem is with any attempt to open or delete the attachments I get the above error. The .pdf's a copied with the following code:

However, what i did was I put in a 6 second delay and then used another browser to access the page. And it threw an Exception saying it is being used by another process which is true. So how come I set it so that, if IT is being used by another process, WAIT and retry every 500 milliseconds until it becomes free/available?
