Web Forms :: Formatting Text Before Present In Html Dynamic Page?

Feb 10, 2011

My user filled a textbox with a text that was copied from Microsoft Word. This is a part of the text .

This system is - AUTOMATIC - and it is restricted

Look the symbols before and after the word AUTOMATIC. When I try to write this on a dynamically generated html page using the code bellow, i got this on the screen:

This system is â€" AUTOMATIC â€" and it is restricted

Code used to print the SQL Field:

[Code]....

The - symbol is not a minus symbol, but is a Word minus (-) symbol...

I am using C#.NET and ASP.NET

.net - Formatting HTML As Text?

Mar 30, 2011

UPDATE 2:

In this section, I am trying to manually add in tabs and line spaces so the string is formatted when displayed via the pre tag. But this does not work.

objStringBuilder.Append("<div>" & Environment.NewLine)
objStringBuilder.Append(vbTab & "<div>some text</div>" & Environment.NewLine)
objStringBuilder.Append("</div>" & Environment.NewLine)
Return "<pre>" & Server.HtmlEncode(objStringBuilder.ToString) & "</pre>"

UPDATE 1:

I have tried the following, but it does not work:

return "<pre>" & Server.HtmlEncode("<div><div>some text</div></div>") & "</pre>"

I want it to display something like this

<div>
<div>some text</div>
</div>

But it's diplaying like this, which is expected:

<div><div>some text</div></div>

I don't know how to get spaces, tabs, carriage returns into that string which are recognizable by the pre tag, as environment.newline and/or vbtab make no difference.

ORIGINAL QUESTION:

Is it possible to display HTML as text on your page in a formatted manner? For example, it should contain white spaces, tabs etc etc for readability purposes:

From another question, I have learned how to display HTML as text as follows:

Server.HtmlEncode("<div>Some text</div>");

AJAX :: Html Post Not Working When Script Manager Is Present On Page

Jan 4, 2011

Tried quite a few things, but cannot make it work. Solution probably a simple switch that has to be set somewhere.

We simply want to set the text properties of two literals. One literal will constitute the form, the other some js code.

</div></center>
</form>
<asp:Literal id="ctlForm" runat="server"></asp:Literal>
<asp:Literal id="ctlPostScript" runat="server"></asp:Literal>
</body>
</html>

In the code behind these literals are populated, the form literal holds a couple of fields, the script literal looks like this:

StringBuilder strScript = new StringBuilder();
strScript.Append("<script language='javascript'>");
strScript.Append("var ctlForm = document.forms.namedItem('{0}');");
strScript.Append("ctlForm.submit();");
strScript.Append("</script>");
ctlPostScript.Text = strJS2; //where strJS2 is the string being returned by the stringbuilder

This is executed when a certain button is pressed. The purpose is to redirect to another site.

This works fine as long as no AJAX is used.

However as soon as AJAX is added, in particular as soon as the script manager is added with partial rendering set to TRUE:

<asp:ScriptManager ID="ScriptManager1" runat="server" EnablePartialRendering="true">
</asp:ScriptManager>

then this stops working. The code in the button is still executed, we checked that, the literals get the right text properties. It appears however that the javascript is not executed. Nothing happens, no redirection.

the problem can be overcome by settin the script manager partial rendering to false, however, when this is done, much of the AJAX functionality stops working.

We think it may have to do with registering the script with the script manager. We tried this:

ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "JSScript", strJS2);//done before setting the text property of the literal

But to no avail.

Anybody has seen this before and knows how its done right?

ASP Literal Or Page Altering HTML String Causes Formatting

Jun 16, 2010

We have a service that generates a report (using word templates and a 3rd party library), and then returns a string in HTML. While this HTML isn't great - its formatted correctly in this string. We want this HTML to show up on a page - format intact. What we currently have done is set an ASP.net Literal's text element to this string. While this works, I have noticed that it has reformatted the HTML string slightly. For the most part, it looks like it generated a bunch of new CSS classes, and a new style element in the HTML. This HTML does not exist in the string thats being returned. I could filter all of this back out, but wonder if there is a better way. I assume that the Page itself is altering something. What is the best way to display this raw HTML back to the user? I can't directly use a Response.Write(string), because this page does have a few other controls on it.

Web Forms :: Formatting Display Of Dynamic Controls (C# / 3.5)?

Apr 21, 2010

I'm creating dynamic controls based on a tree structure I built from a database.

Basically each part number in my tree, I want to be able to type in a serial number for, so the form will look something like this:

Part 1 [textbox] [save button]

Subpart of Part 1 [textbox] [save button]

Subpart of Part 1 [textbox] [save button]

Part 2 [textbox] [save button]

and so on. I have the generating of the controls correct right now. However, all of the controls just come out in one line like the following:

Part 1 [textbox] [save button] Subpart of Part 1 [textbox] [save button] Subpart of Part 1 [textbox] [save button] etc..

How do I go about putting a break in between each "row" I'm making so I can obtain the tree format I am looking for?

Web Forms :: Finding Text Box In Dynamic Table Cell With Master Page

Jun 25, 2010

I recently built a table dynamically on a page.

this is how I pulled the value back to fill in the text box in the table. With no master page.

TextBox tb = (TextBox)table.Rows[i].Cells[j].FindControl("TextBoxRow_" + i + "Col_" + j);
tb.Text = Request.Form["TextBoxRow_" + i + "Col_" + j];

Now that I've added a master page to this things apparently have gotten more complicated. This won't fill the value for the textbox in the table cell that I want. I know the value still exists because if I do this

Request.Form.GetValues("ctl00$MainContent$TextBoxRow_" + i + "Col_1")[0]

Has the value that I want to put into that text box. I know the text box gets created because it's there when the page refreshes. But I can't seem to find that text box so i can put a value in it.

For Example: In a page I am displaying a Gridview with textboxes inside it and a button on the page. The user need to input some text in the textboxes of the gridview and click on "Submit" button. When the user clicks on Submit Button, we need to validate the length of the text present in the textboxes of the gridview. If the length of the text inside the textbox of the gridview is less than 10 , we need to throw an error message. In the same way we need to do validation for each and every textbox inside the gridview.

Web Forms :: Master Pages And Adding Dynamic Text Fields To A Page From The Database

Jun 28, 2010

I am adding text fields to a page from the database. I set the .ID to match the record ID from the database. Of course becasue the text field is on the masterpage, when I grab the .ClientID, it is ctl00 contentMain$ctl00. what I don't get is where is my ID? If I set it to say AB how do I find the textbox by AB? I thought it should have AB in the ID somewhere. ID is nothing which I don't get either. I'm looping through the controls in a placeholder like this

For Each row In dtData.Rows()
Dim c As Control
For Each c In phTextRequired.Controls
If c.UniqueID = row("CustomFieldID").ToString() Then

Again though what is in the row() is say AB but the id is way off from that.
