my requirement is : am having a excel sheet with some values listed i want to pass each value present in any(specified) column to a text box present on a remote page (a site other than mine) as a input and capture the result displayed on the page and then store the input and reuslt side by side in db this should repeat till the end of the input values in the excel sheet.

Can any one let me know "How to validate the length of the text present in the textboxes of a Gridview using javascript".
For Example: In a page I am displaying a Gridview with textboxes inside it and a button on the page. The user need to input some text in the textboxes of the gridview and click on "Submit" button. When the user clicks on Submit Button, we need to validate the length of the text present in the textboxes of the gridview. If the length of the text inside the textbox of the gridview is less than 10 , we need to throw an error message. In the same way we need to do validation for each and every textbox inside the gridview.

Actually i'm doing a project on quiz..i created a questions table with fields qno,qdesc,a,b,c,d,answer....then i wrote a store proc to retrieve qno,qdesc,a,b,c,d randomly.SELECT top 5 Q_No,Q_Desc,A_Opt,B_Opt,C_Opt,D_Opt,answers from [dbo].Questions randomrows ORDER BY NEWID() and another store proc to retrieve answers randomly. SELECT top 5 answerst from [dbo].[Questions] randomrows
ORDER BY NEWID()
but finally i'm getting 1st store proc n 2nd store proc randomly...But the answers related to that particular qstn r not matching. how can we retrieve a column present in one stored procedure into another stored procedure

I have put my gridView inside an UpdatePanel with Timer control for auto refresh.The gridView has a linkButton column which is bounded to referenceNo column from database.
On click of this link button i want a panel to get visible. This Panel contains details corresponding to the referenceNo shown in differnt controls (mostly texboxes). Do i necessarily need to put the panel inside the Update Panel.If not how do i do it?
I have tried putting panel outside UpdatePanel, but it doesn't show panel on clicking the linkbutton nor does the values are updated inside this panel (if panel's visibility is set to true by default for testing purpose).

I have an application where I display the data from sql table to details view. There are many columns in SQL table, among them I combine two colums firstname and lastname to Name using templateField.

Tried quite a few things, but cannot make it work. Solution probably a simple switch that has to be set somewhere.
We simply want to set the text properties of two literals. One literal will constitute the form, the other some js code.

In the code behind these literals are populated, the form literal holds a couple of fields, the script literal looks like this:

This is executed when a certain button is pressed. The purpose is to redirect to another site.
This works fine as long as no AJAX is used.
However as soon as AJAX is added, in particular as soon as the script manager is added with partial rendering set to TRUE:

then this stops working. The code in the button is still executed, we checked that, the literals get the right text properties. It appears however that the javascript is not executed. Nothing happens, no redirection.
the problem can be overcome by settin the script manager partial rendering to false, however, when this is done, much of the AJAX functionality stops working.
We think it may have to do with registering the script with the script manager. We tried this:
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "JSScript", strJS2);//done before setting the text property of the literal
But to no avail.
Anybody has seen this before and knows how its done right?

I am trying to add a user control into a div at runtime. I can add the control no probelem but it overwrites the previous control added.Basically, I am trying to add passengers to a travel system - the passenger details are in the user control and I don't know in advance how many there will be. I have an add new passenger button which should append the new user control into the div without overwriting the previous passenger. The code is c#/.net 4. I have tried to save the control data into viewstate and re add it with the new one but that also doesn't work. Here is a snippet of the code I'm using

however, p.SaveAs() (just writes the control values into ViewState) is never hit.

Summary: I need to authorize pages based upon the data present in the query string of a url, not just the page name.
Background:
Let's say I'm building a library inventory system. Users can be created and assigned to a single library in either an Admin or User role. There are hundreds of competing libraries in the same database, so it's important to ensure that users of one library cannot view inventory from another library.
Right now I'm using a pretty standard ASP.NET setup: Forms Authentication using the SqlMembershipProvider. Authorization using the SqlRoleProvider, configured via <authorization> sections in the web.config. Security trimming with the SiteMap provider to hide unauthorized pages.
To control the inventory information from leaking, I'm manually checking a user's associate library ID with every inventory query. It works, but it's tedious and prone to errors. There has to be a better way.
Question:
Now users have the ability to create arbitrary "collections" within a library. (e.g. Collection A has Books 1, 2, & 3 in it.) Admins want the ability to grant Admin / User access on individual collections, not just the entire library.
So, if a user goes to www.com/Book.aspx?BookId=1, the system needs to ensure that user has permissions for the collection that "Book 1" is in before showing the page. If they go to www.com/Reviews.aspx?ReviewId=23, I need to make sure the Review is for a book that is in a collection that they have permission to view.
1) How can I implement this in the most standard ASP.NET way possible?
Manual checking within a base page?
A custom HttpModule?
A custom Role Provider?
I'm not interested in how to store the admin/user permissions, but rather how/where to authorize based on those permissions.
(examples on how to implement any of those are appreciated)
2) To further complicate it, I'd still like security trimming to check if the user has Admin rights on any collection or library and hide the admin pages if he doesn't.

I have Link Button to Export to excel in Master page. Since I have placed it in master page I can see Export link button in every page. I need to disable link button where gridview is not present in a page.
I thing using Enabled property we can do. How to proceed. Is there any other way to do it.

I have two dropdownlist's.DropDownList2(not bound to a datasource) and DropDownList3(bound to a datasource)
On change on input in one dropdownlist some content in the other Dropdownlist should change. For that i had used the logic as.
Autopostback is enabled for both this controls.

Now the problem is when i select DropDownList2.SelectedItem.Text == "Reg" STA and STM are not present. I want STA and STM values back in the dropdownlist on selection of 'Reg'.
When i first load my page and select 'Reg' all the values in DropDownList3(including 'STA' and 'STM') are present and than when i select 'Stamp' the values 'STA' and 'STM' are lost(as shown in the code). Now again when i select 'Reg' this values are not there, i want this values to be present again. What do i have to do?? Do i have to bind it again to database?
Is there any other logic for it to be used in a different way ?

I have a listview set up in "flow" mode where the existing records are all on an extended page so you can scroll down to any record.
The InsertItem Template is in the first position, making it easy to insert a new record.
And one can scroll down the page to any record, click the edit button and update that record -- nice having everything on one scrollable page.
I am running into a problem with validations. I have validation controls restricting inputs for all the textboxes on the Insert Item template. They work fine. And on Item Inserted I am running a page validation:
Page.Validate()
If Not Page.IsValid Then
e.Cancel = True
End If
which works fine also.
The problem occurs when I scroll down to an existing record, and go to edit it. I have all the same validation constraints on the textboxes for the EditItemTemplate as I have on the InsertItemTemplate. But I cannot successfully do a page validation on updating the record. The code I am using on update is:

This results in a Cancel even if there are no validation errors on the InsertItemTemplate because the Page.Validate() seems to be causing the InsertItemTemplate to think its fields should be filled out also.

All the controls in the Edit Item template are part of ValidationGroup "edit1" and those of the InsertItem Template are part of ValidationGroup "edit2"
How can I get around receiving validation errors on the InsertItem Template when I am trying to validate just the EditItemTemplate when both are present on the page?

I will try to be very clear in the description of my issue.
To access a page on the intranet, I have to use this url
http://intranet-staging/_layouts/Cra...p/Default.asp
if I am accessing it form outside I have then to use this other url
https://remote.intranet.co.uk/_layou...g+Default.aspx
My goal is to detect whenever someone is trying to access the page externally. To acheive it, I am using in the web page the following method
Request.Url.ToString() but it is always returning this value http://intranet-staging/_layouts/CrashTestApp/Default.aspx regardless if the page is reached from outside or internally.
Request.Url.ToString() is actually all the time returning the url on the server.
is there a way to get the real url used to access the page so that I can detect people accessing externally ?

I need to be able to present different labels for different users.
If Adam is logged in I need the label for a field to read "Age:"
If Bob is logged in I need the label for the same field to read "How old are you?:"
The input for both fields will still go into the same column in the database. So both fields targets the column "usrAge" in the DB.
I would like a stable solution which would work for 1000 users and each user has it's own label for age. Ciould I map them in an XML file or maybe store the different labels in a specific table in the database. I don't know? Is there a general solution to this kind of problem?
I think this problem is fairly similar to language translation of labels...only I need to specify the labels as users are created in the DB, each with a new label name.

randomly get errors when using dropdownlists stating a value is not present. This occurs when there is a value in the table (its a very old table with inconsistencies in data entry) that is not in the current values that are part of the dropdownlist. I'm wondering if there is a way to override this in the code behind. What I would like to be able to do is have the form control bypass the fact that the data is not in the dropdownlist when it opens in edit mode. I'm thinking that there needs to be something in the code behind but I'm not sure if that is the way to go and if so, how to code it.
