View 3 RepliesI've been having some production runtime errors that I don't fully understand. This has happened to us on a couple different ASP.NET 4.0 Web Sites (shudders - yes, I know - we're porting it to MVC but that's taking some time).
First of all, we have never been able to reproduce this issue in development/QA environments. Secondly, upon deployment, the issue seems to be non-existent. Sometimes the issue manifests within a day or two of deployment and other times the deployment will be live for a month without it manifesting at all. However, once it manifests, then ANY page viewed under the web site causes the error. Lastly, this problem seemed to only come up once we migrated to .NET 4.0. We started at 2.0, a year ago upped to 3.5, and recently upped to 4.0 with this solution and most child projects.
The error:
Could not find the sitemap node with URL '~/Default.aspx'.
A simplified version of our sitemap (with some names changed and uninteresting nodes removed) is as follows:
<siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0">
<siteMapNode roles="*" title="EG">
<siteMapNode url="~/../SM/Default.aspx" title="Welcome" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SD/Default.aspx" title="SD" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SMD/Default.aspx" title="SMD" description="" roles="*" />
[code]...
I have confirmed in all of the SiteMaps that there is a node with url="~/Default.aspx" with roles="*" (which includes public/anonymous access), so I am very confused as to why this problem occurs.
SiteMap does not have a node for Default.aspx. All of them do. SiteMap's Default.aspx node is not accessible for security reasons to the current user/role. They're all accessible to anonymous users and this problem even exists for super admin users. Passed-in URL contains querystrings (Default.aspx?abcd). I don't know if this is a problem (I sure would hope not) but once the problem manifests itself, I can handwrite the URL with no querystrings and the problem still exists.
SiteMap changes. It doesn't Service's permissions to the sitemap file. The sitemap works perfectly fine after a deployment, so unless permissions are changed in a way that IISRESET fixes, then this is not an issue. The worker process becomes globally corrupt. I don't think so. We have ~12 web sites all in the same app pool and the problem always stays confined within a single web site. Also, we have yet to have this happen to more than a single web site at a time although it has manifested itself in 4 different ones so far.
I have two Master Pages, each with a SiteMapPath control that uses a separate sitemap assigned in markup via the SiteMapFile attribute. Both sitemap files are defined as providers in web.config, and sitemap "A" is set as default. My master pages are dynamically assigned to common content pages (in the Page_PreInit event).
View 3 RepliesI'm still at the struggling stage. Currently trying to find the way to do array handling, declaring arrays, manipulating them, sorting the contents, writing to other arrays...And all the time there's this red ball sitting there on the left, in the midst of my code now, as I add more....what's it mean? what's it for?
View 9 RepliesFor some reason, i have to make a aspx page to let iphone/android to Post form. After the data processing of request.form , i have response a JSON string in plain text. However *.aspx will enforce to render html,head,body tag,so how can i disable it?
I cannot use ashx, because the mobile have to post image via form, as i search the answer by google ,ashx cannot handle the http post files.
Edit: As SLaks said, ashx can handle POST file using "context.Request.Files" and it works.
We are getting this error message when we try to click the link in the menu to go to Report Server:

I have a dynamic page which has repeating input text fields and is build using Jquery. I use C#.net to get the data to be displayed on the input fields. My question is on how do I handle single Quotes and double quotes while rendering the input field. I create jquery string on page render and uses that to render the input fields on the page. But if any of the input fields contains a html tag with double quotes then it screws up the whole page. Let me know I this make sense or need more explanation.
View 1 RepliesI've got two questions - first of all, why does .net render a javascript onclick event for asp buttons when there's a custom validator on the same page, and secondly, how can I get rid of the javascript?
It works fine when javascript is turned off, so I don't know what the point of it is. Here's a mini example:
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<asp:Button ID="Button1" OnClick="Button1_Click" Text="test" runat="server" />
<asp:CustomValidator ID="CustomValidator1" runat="server"
OnServerValidate="Stuff_Validate" EnableClientScript="false">
</asp:CustomValidator>
</form>
This will generate the following html for the button:
<input type="submit" name="Button1" value="test" onclick="javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new WebForm_PostBackOptions("Button1", "", true, "", "", false, false))" id="Button1" />
Without the custom validator, it's:
<input type="submit" name="Button1" value="test" id="Button1" />
I've got a custom menu navigation built from a web.sitemap file, the first line of this would be something like:
SiteMapNodeCollection topLevelNodes = SiteMap.RootNode.ChildNodes;
However, now I want to be able to create multiple web.sitemap files, and then programmatically determine which web.sitemap file to use, but I can't seem to find out how to do this. I'm assuming I could either create one custom SiteMapProvider that can perform the logic to determine which web.sitemap file to load, or I have multiple providers, each one with the SiteMapFile property set to a specific *.sitemap file, and then switch providers programmatically before I access SiteMap.RootNode.
I am creating a custom control and was wondering if it is possible to render any JavaScript in the head tags of the page it is placed on? I am thinking I would need to use the FindControl method, but am not sure what I need to bind to. I am thinking the page object? Let me know if I am thinking in the right direction or if there is another option.
My only concern with the above mentioned idea is that how do I render all my content while placing some code in the head tags?
I have created a javascript function along with the scripts in a class file using string builder as follows
public static string ShowAlertMessage(string pHeader, string pError)
{
StringBuilder strScript = new StringBuilder();
strScript.Append("<script type="text/javascript" src="").Append("Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js").Append(""></script>");
strScript.Append("<script type="text/javascript" src="").Append("Scripts/jquery.msgBox.js").Append(""></script>");
[code]...
This method I am calling on each and every page on the button click where ever I required as follows
ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "Popup", Alert.ShowAlertMessage("Hello", "Welcome"), true);
But this is not giving me the output I needed, the one which I converted is the following URL....
How would I programatically reference a .sitemap file that is not the root web.sitemap file? I have a file called research.sitemap in a folder a level under root. I want to refernce this file in my code behind like his: SiteMapNode m1 = SiteMap.RootNode (but since this isnt web.sitemap in the root, I dont know how to get access to it).
View 1 RepliesI have a second level node that goes onto two lines. The first line indents 15px as is set by the class for node level 2. The seond line kicks back to the same level as 1st level nodes. Here's what I mean:
Parent Node
Second node
line 2 of second node
I want it to be like this:
Parent Node
Second Node
line 2 of second node
I've been watching a video on Scott Hanselmnn teaching MVC 2 tricks/tips. He mentions how MVC 2 by default uses ASP.NET Web Forms view engine to render the output of the views; he mentions that the web forms view engine is a little slower than it could be for MVC 2 since it generates a control tree and then outputs the HTML to the page (I hope I said that right).
I was wondering what he meant by web forms generating a code tree before outputting the HTML to the page. Does anyone have insight on the view engine of Web forms and the steps of the rendering process works for ASP.NET and MVC2?
I am creating a CacheDependency on the file that my SiteMap provider uses. I would like to get the name of the file from my sitemap provider instead of hard coding it. Is there a way?
Edit
Duh, I forgot to mention: XmlSiteMapProvider that comes with ASP.NET
Edit 2
Reflector shows a private member field called _filename that isn't exposed in any way as far as I can tell.
I have an ASP.NET 3.5 intranet website which has a default page with a menu and when the user clicks on a menu item, I display the page for that menu item in an iframe embedded within the default page. but if the user types the URL of a page directly in the browser, then I would like to redirect him to the default page, because all the content pages do not have a menu. (Master Pages will solve this issue, but I can't use Master page here for a reason and don't want to go into those details). how to find out if user has arrived at the page directly by typing the URL or by clicking on the menu item, so that I can decide whether to redirect or not? Is this possible to find out? btw this is an intranet site and no login is required.
View 2 RepliesI have some ajax fucntions on my default.aspx that I use for saving data to my db. I have the form on my web control. When I try calling the function from my button which resides on the web control. I get an error.
I need to call that function from my registerform.ascx. How do I do that from within the registerform code behind?
function ShowAvailability() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "Default.aspx/CheckEmail",
data: '{usermail: "' + $("#<%=subs_email.ClientID%>")[0].value + '" }',
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
success: OnSuccess,
failure: function(response) {
alert(response);
}
});
My web-based app allows users to override values in certain textboxes. If they don't override the value, the system will display (and use) a default.
I would like to support a scenario where the user has overridden the value, but now wants to revert back to the system default value, but doesn't know what value to enter. I would like to provide an intuitive UI for causing the system to revert the field's value back to its default.
Fields occur both on edit forms (where space is plentiful), as well as on edit grids (where space is scarce).
Requiring the user to clear the field is not an option, as sometimes the user's override is an empty value. Would rather not use a keystroke, like Ctrl-Z or ESC.
Best thing I can think of is the user hovers over the field and a popup displays giving the user the option to use the system default. I could use the same popup to capture/display a comment related to the override.
Is there a way where I can disable a buttonset in jQuery UI but prevent the buttonsets style from changing to the "grayed out" look when setting the buttons to disabled?
I have tried simply handling the click event of the buttons. IE:
$("#myRadioButton").click(function (event) { event.preventDefault(); });
$("#myRadioButton1").click(function (event) { event.preventDefault(); });
But this doesnt seem to work.
I am guessing my best bet is to apply the style from the buttonset to non jQuery generated ones and setting them to disabled yeah? Only reason I am wanting to avoid this as in future the ability to click the buttons will be enabled
I am using javascript print function in my project (window.print) . i can' t able to chage the default font style in my funtion pls help me how to find the default font style in window.print
View 1 RepliesI want to redirect my Javascript and CSS URLs to Homepage(Default.aspx) by web.config or via anyother way in ASP.Net. I tried to try it but I can't able to do this thing. I have already checkout ASP.Net professional book but I can't get any reference for it anywhere.
View 2 Repliesthe default ASP.NET Forms Authentication cookie sets it's name as ".ASPXAUTH". Notice the first character is a period? Is there a particular reason for this? Like, does this have an impact on domain names or subdomains for the target domain.
Or is it purely some random thing an MS dev person came up with (maybe to help out the ordering of the cookies, when they were debugging or something .. as text with periods prolly get listed before other strings)?

Is it possible to have a right to left asp.net menu control in .Net 4.
I use Asp.Net Menu server control and I cant make it right to left. I want sub menus open at the left side of parent menu.
I checked direction:rtl and its not working.
If i set dir="rtl" on a div that contains the menu it works on Firefox but on IE the menu jumps out of the screen.
