I am trying to create a simple page with a drop down list which has 3 items. Choosing any of those 3 items calls for a specific constructor in the script. Using VB 2008
public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
}
protected void DropDownList1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (DropDownList1.Text == "Coupe")
{
//Response.Write("You chose the Coupe");
string Engine;
string Transmission;
string Wheels;
string Safety_Features;
string Key_Systems;
string Interior;
string Mileage;
Altima A1 = new Altima(Engine, Transmission, Wheels, Safety_Features, Key_Systems, Interior, Mileage);
Response.Write(A1.displayAuto());
}
if (DropDownList1.Text == "Hybrid")
{
Response.Write("You chose the Hybrid");
}
if (DropDownList1.Text == "Sedan")
{
Response.Write("You chose the Sedan");
}

- How to allow selection of multiple files inside the Choose File Dialog Box?
- How to implement an event that will be activate after selecting a file and pressing on the Open button inside the Choose File Dialog Box? [I looked at the event I got, none of them deals with it...]

I've got a drop down list that I want to populate with items from a SQL Server database, which I did successfully, but I can't figure out how to write an if statement that will clear the drop down list based on a selected index and repopulate it with data from another table. The drop down list is inside an update panel that auto posts back.
Basically I want to allow the user to choose an item, but rather than populate another drop down list control, i just want to repopulate the current one with new data.I'm guessing that if I want to get data from more than one table the code below isn't going to work for me. Could I get the data from all the tables at once and store each table data in its own variable until I need to use it? (Each table will have under 10 items, in 5 tables.)
Here is the code to get the data from the database:[Code]....

I've a dropdown list for departments (engineering, bio, chemistry,physics etc.) when somebody choose the departments from the dropdown list, it displays the opening closing time(hours) in a detailsview controls.
I have separate homepage for these departments ( these are the static html pages and no way to send querystring value) and I want to link the hours for each department from the departmental homepage.
When I choose the department from the DDL, everytime it's the same URL.
How can I solve the problem So that I can point the respective hours from the respective departments ?

looking for information on how to do this. our company has one website, with several different applications. the way we have set it up is that we have been creating these different applications as websites, we have one Master page for the whole site, so when we create a new website we also create a virtual site with our master page in it. We are using VS 2008 now and what we want to do is make the change to creating web applications but I have not been able to figure out how to bring our master pages into the application, without bringing the actual pages into the app. the only thing I have been finding is people creating the master page file in the web application, that will not work for us, as we have to many applications and if there is a change in the master page it has to show on our whole website, so we need to either be able to bring our master page in as another project or set it up as a virtual directory, or reference it in the web.cofig somehow, but the master page needs to stay in it's own directory and only referenced.

I'm trying to populate a detailsview according to the selected row in a gridview. How do you choose what the selectedindex is? For example my sql statement is:
SELECT [Assignment_ID], [Staff_ID], [Client_ID], [Day], [Month], [Year], [Start_Time], [Job_Type], [Billable_Time], [Travel_Time], [KM_Travelled], [NC_Time], [SP_Time], [Billed], [Description] FROM [Assignment] WHERE ([Assignment_ID] = @Assignment_ID)
and @ assignment_ID is gridview.selectedindex
but when it runs I get the error:
Input string was not in a correct format.
Description:
An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.
Exception Details: System.FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.

We're migrating from the web site to the web application model. Is there a way to allow the designer to use ftp to upload a single aspx page (foo.aspx and foo.aspx.cs) without requiring the use of the VS2008 Publish feature? We're a small shop and haven't bothered using source control as it wasn't much of an issue with the web site model. If the designer uses the Publish feature my binaries will be overwritten. I know that static pages are compiled at run time so I thought this would be possible but my tests result in errors. I've clicked around for some guidance but come up empty handed.

I often have an issue with compile errors when I copy over a aspx page and code behind file from another project, it seems to work when I create another page and the content manually but if I just copy the files it won't. I have checked to make sure namespaces and references are ok but still doesn't make any sense. The error I get is "Error The name 'txtUser' does not exist in the current context". I just wanted to understand why.
For e.g I copied over the following :
ASPX
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="Login.aspx.cs" Inherits="Login" %>
Login
Login

I'm a seasoned programmer with years of experience in Windows Forms development using different programming languages as already stated in this question: Will learning WPF improve my skills in ASP.NET? ASP.NET or any Web based programming language doesn't feel natural for me to explore or to use. Although I am unfamiliar with Web based technologies, my curiosity about these grows and grows. In addition to it, I am aware of the market place Web based programming takes. I would like to expand my knowledge and experience to the Web, though would it be just to know what I'm talking about instead of speculating whatever.
My experience as an information and process systems developer allows me to understand the concepts and some of the basics. I am aware that Web based applications are stateless, for instance, and that I need to use session or viewstate variables to keep the information the user is working with alive, otherwise I would loose them. I also understand the basics of Ajax based controls such as the UpdatePanel, which is to update or to refresh only a part of a UI page rather than reloading everything through the connection again. I can get that CSS defines styles for your page's sections and that you may change radically your Website's aspect just by changing the CSS reference. I am also aware of masterpages, which I don't really understand, in fact.
Programming Model
I just watched this video about choosing the right model for me/my application:
Choosing the Right Programming Model. If looks like ASP.NET MVC, which I thought was the best approach, is more for the veteran Web developers, people who are comfortable with Web applications. I have used a lot of DataBinding in Windows Forms, and WebForms seems to be more what I'm looking for into ASP.NET, until they say that MVC allows for Unit Testing, TDD and Agile methodologies, which I adhere to, as a certified Professional Scrum Master. I'm a bit mixed up on what will be more natural for me speaking of programming model.
Questions
Taking into account my base of knowledge and my experience, what programming model do you think I'm going to be more comfortable with? Will choosing one over the other allow me to get acquainted enough with ASP.NET to one day try the other model? In the video about choosing the Programming Model both sat on ASP.NET, I heard about DataBinding while using Web Forms, but no mention of DataBinding in the MVC model. Is there any possible DataBinding in MVC?
