First: Using the wizards in Web Developer 2008, is it possible to create multiple inserts into various tables? Just looking for a Yes/No answer.What is the easiest, and best way to create a SQL query to search multiple tables, using a dropdown list as the criteria? Using 3 tables as an example: How would this look? Anyone know of some examples out there with regards to querying or updating multiple tables?
Would a Stored procedure work in this instance?
I'm having a question about the LinqDataSource. Does anyone know if it's possible to perform multiple inserts with the LinqDataSource? Let's say for example that I have 2 tables.
Table A
AID = PK autoincrement Name AddressA FK AddressB FK
Table B
BID = PK autoincrementStreetNumberPostalCodeCountry
These tables are just examples to clarify my question. Let's say that I have a FormView with a LinqDataSource where the user can enter his name en a billing address (A) en delivery address (B). Now I would like to know if the LinqDataSource is able to insert 2 records in table B and use these ID's to insert them in table A together with the name?
Environment: C#, ASP.NET 4.0, SQL Server 2008.
Here's the scenario: Buyers and Sellers (where all of the sellers have a unique D&B number).
I'm catering to the buyers, and I want them to be able to import a list of sellers based on the D&B number.
Here are the tables:
BuyersSellers - unique list of sellers - one record, no matter how many buyers work with them.BuyerSellers - lookup table - buyer_id, seller_id sets which buyers work with which sellers
ImportedSellers - temp table that holds sellers the buyer wants to add.AllSellers - master table that has all known sellers with D&B numbers (remote database).
Here's the process:
Buyer uploads list of new sellers, they get added to ImportSellers tableMatch ImportedSellers against AllSellers (valid), ignore unmatched (invalid).Add valid ImportedSellers to the Sellers table if they don't exist.Create BuyerSeller records for all valid ImportedSellers - using data from AllSellers.Delete all valid ImportedSellers, leave the unmatched behind so they know what they need to fix.
I've got the upload and import working, but now I'm a little stuck on how to do all of the matching and inserting, and do it as quickly as possible.
i have a dropdown with month names if the user has data for the month tht is selected then gridview displays the rows with day nos as per the month but if the gridview has no data for the same the dropdown or gridview via some event should call a insert procedure to insert data into the table for tht month with daynos ad rebind the gridview witht the rows just created
View 6 RepliesI am using the following procedure. But when i running the procedure with multiple values it is getting error as given below. But single value specification is working fine. Ho to use dynamic query. But i am not willing to use it. solve the issue "Conversion failed when converting the varchar value ''1','2'' to data type int." My Query is:

I have been struggling for a while 72 hours with this .When I update the form view a NULL value is inserted in my product ID field instead of the productID from the drop down list.
here is the code for the form view.
<asp:FormView ID="FormView8" runat="server" DataKeyNames="LoadID,ProductID"
DataSourceID="Pro1SQL">
<EditItemTemplate>
LoadID:
<asp:Label ID="LoadIDLabel1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("LoadID") %>' />

I've updated a number of production sites from 3.5 to 4.0 and have found a really annoying problem where it will insert a blank space into Multi-Line text boxes
The tag is entered as....
<asp:TextBox
ID="AdvDayNotesTB"
runat="server"
TextMode="MultiLine"
CssClass="text"
Width="99%"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:TextBox
ID="AdvDayNotesTB"
runat="server"
TextMode="MultiLine"
CssClass="text"
Width="99%"
/>
The HTML is rendered as...
<TEXTAREA style="WIDTH: 99%" id="ctl00_C_FV1_AdvDayNotesTB" rows="1" cols="20">
I have a DDL bound to a sqlDataSource, and I want to insert an item in the first position. I tried using this code in the onDatabound event:
Protected Sub ddl_onDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles ddl.DataBound
ddl.Items.Insert(0, "None")
End Sub
But when I load the page, the item "None" is inserted twice at the beginning of the DDL? So I see something like:
None
None
item1
item2
Do I need to put the items.insert somewhere else, like on the pageLoad, to avoid it being executed twice, or am I doing something really wrong?
Is it possible to have a stored procedure return multiple ref cursors to a .Net application? I tried this, but it didn't work.

I have a table with 4 columns.The first column is a list of teams.The other three columns specify whether the team member with the particular id is present on any particular day .Say for example in the third row the running Team has 2 and 3 which means team member with the id 2 and 3 are present.Multiple values are seperated by the pipe symbol '|'.I have a Query like this
Select Teamname from tblTeam where Running not like '%|2|%' and Running not like '%|3|%' and Running not like '%|7|%' and Biking not like '%|1|%' and Biking not like '%|4|%' and Biking not like '%|7|%' and shooting not like '%|3|%' and shooting not like '%|4|%' and shooting not like '%|7|%' Basically i am searching the columns with like clause.The search criteria for each column may vary.In the above query i am searching for Teams where Running column does not contain 2,3 and 7,Biking column does not contain 1,4 and 7 and the shooting column does not contain 3,4 and 7. I would like to set a stored procedure where i would be able to pass 3 set of parameters from the code behind(I am using VB.net) for Running column search,Biking column search and the shooting column search.
Can someone tell me writing a simple stored procedure.I have a table with 4 columns.The first column is list of teams.The other three columns specify whether the team member with the particular id is present or not on any particular day .Say for example in the third row the running column has 2 and 3 which means team member with the id 2 and 3 are present.Multiple values are seperated by the pipe symbol '|'.
I have another post on formatting arrays [URL], thinking that would be the way.. and may be it is.. But let me explain it here and see if thats where i need to focus. I have a class that i use to call 3 different procedures, the values from proc#1 are passed to proc#2 and then proc#2 values passed on to proc#3. Now my problem is that i need the results from proc#3 to be placed in a variable i can pass on to another procedure to execute a query.
Proc#1 returns only 1 record. (easy to place into a session or variable)
Proc#2 returns only 1 record. (easy to place into a session or variable)
Proc#3 returns multple records(its only 1 field that is returned, but can have multiple records), so i need to know what is the best solution to place all records returned into a session or variable to use as a parameter in a query?
Since i need to pass those values to a stored procedure, how can i pass what is returned from proc#3 to my query? One of the parameter of the store procedure is our locations, so my query will look like this:
Select *
From tblName
Where loc LIKE ('1','2','3' )
So i want to set it up so that the values within the LIKE statement are passed in from the page like so
Select *
From tblName
Where loc LIKE (@loc)
I am in the way to make an SQL server saving transactions. How to make MultipleSaveNewReadings function to perform the best performance for an SQL server saving call without closing/opening connection for each record saving? I don't need to merge the for-next loop into the saving function code but it's ok to get out some of the saving code to be in the for-next calling function.

I'm a novice in .NET programming. I was trying to figure a way to make a MULTI TABLE search via a stored procedure for my website. I've written a SP to select records from one table, which isn't working for some unknown reasons:
[Code]....
Whatever I search for, the datagrid is displaying all records from my table.
I am trying to what i think is an easy task, but so far i have came up empty.
What i want to do is take a repeating table on a form i have and submit the employee IDs to a database using a web service.
I know how to submit them one by one, but i am thinking there is an easier way to do this instead of send the value to the web service, submit thee data, and then go till the last record.
I am currently using this:
<WebMethod(Description:="sends employee id to database")> _
Public Function SendMultiple(ByVal strEmployeeID as string) As String
Dim sqlCon As New SqlConnection()
Dim sqlCmd As New SqlCommand()
sqlCon.ConnectionString = "connection string information"
If sqlCon.State = ConnectionState.Closed Then
sqlCon.Open()
End If
sqlCmd.CommandText = "spInsertMultiple"
sqlCmd.Connection = sqlCon
sqlCmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
Dim Parameter0 As SqlParameter = New SqlParameter("@EmployeeID", strEmployeeID)
Parameter0.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
sqlCmd.Parameters.Add(Parameter0)
Dim dr As SqlDataReader
dr = sqlCmd.ExecuteScalar
Dim strReturnedValue As String = "hello"
Return strReturnedValue
End Function
I'm using the Autocomplete extender, it works great however I need to be able to display multiple columns from my stored procedure as have in the example below. The user enters a location #, I need it to display the location number and the address formatted, but when the user selects the correct location, I ONLY want the location number to populate my textbox:
1234
Address
City, State Zip
I've had a real hard time trying to figure out how to do this,. Here's my stored procedure and CS code.

Just after some advice I have a stored procedure that returns several tables. I then need to loop through the tables and create dynamic gridviews using the data. At the moment this stored proc is called using
[Code]....
I have used an xsd file to populate everthing else, but due to this returning multiple tables i wasn't sure how this works should it just be in its own xsd? as all the oather i just get a datatable where as with this i need a dataset... how this makes sense...
I wonder how is it possible to manage transaction in c# code.. I have to do multiple insertion of same object with unique storedprocedure. So I have to launch the same stored procedure with same parameters multiple times.
But if a problem appear in the process (lost connection,...) I don't want just a part of insertions done and the rest failed, I want all the insertion cancelled. So I would like a SQLtransaction but within the application code because a can't change database.
suppose the stored procedure is like this
create procedure tttt
(@EMP_CODE VARCHAR(15)
)
AS
SELECT * FROM demand_month where(EMP_CODE=@EMP_CODE
SELECT * from demand_week where EMP_CODE=@EMP_CODE
go
How to display it in a gridview
Is it possible to return multiple values from a stored procedure? Basically, if I execute the stored proc on the C# side, then on the SQL side I do multiple calculations. Let's say I have 5 int values I need returned to the C# side.
View 4 RepliesI have a formview and I opened it in Insert mode where the fields were all blank as I expected. I then entered some data into the fields but instead of clicking insert I clicked cancel. I then entered the formView in Insert mode again and the previous data was still present.
how to set it up so it will be cleared if cancel was pressed?
I have a group of radiobuttons. The field they are 'bound' to is of datatype tinyint (sql server), byte .NET. It is set to NOT accept nulls in the database column (col1) and no default value has been set for the column, or indeed, anywhere else.
View code as follows:
<ul> <li><%= Html.RadioButton("col1", "1")%></li> <li><%= Html.RadioButton("col1", "2")%></li> <li><%= Html.RadioButton("col1", "3")%></li></ul><%= Html.ValidationMessage("col1", "*") %>
If the user doesn't select any of them, I would expect null to be that the model would attempt to insert into the database. I would therefore get a validation error that I can display to the user, prompting them to choose one of the options.
However, instead of null, the model inserts a 0 into the database. As this does not fail, no error is raised.
I am not setting the default value to 0 anywhere, not in the mvc app or the database
I have DAL Layer, from where invoking a stored procedure to insert values into the table.
E.g.:-
[code]....
Now as requirement changed, per client request i have to add values 5 times. So what is the best practice?
Do i call this Stored Procedure 5 times from my DAL?
I have an application that uses an aps:GridView. The GridView is populated using a DataSource that calls a Stored Procedure. The DataSource passes parameters to the Stored Procedure based on some text fields. The page has been running slower than wanted, so I was doing some checking.
I ran SQL Profiler while loading the page, and saw the Stored Procedure was being called twice. I stepped through the code and found out that in the Page Load Complete event was where this was happening. In this event, I set the value of a parameter for the Stored Procedure, then did a DataBind on the GridView to pick up the data. As I was stepping through the code, I watched the SQL Profiler. When I got to the step of setting the parameter, the Stored Procedure had not yet been called. When I stepped through that and got to the DataBind command (before running that step), the SQL Profiler showed that the Stored Procedure had been called. Then I did the DataBind and the StoredProcedure was called again.
My question is, how do I get the parameters set, and get the GridView data bound, and only call the StoredProcedure once? If I comment out the DataBind step, the StoredProcedure never does get called (which seems really strange to me...).
