Web Forms :: Needing To Do A 'simple' ASP.Net Site That Just Uses The Out Of The Box Basics?
Oct 25, 2010
I've been dynamically asigning master pages using code for a number of years as part of a skinning engine. Today however,I'm needing to do a 'simple' ASP.Net site that just uses the out of the box basics.I'm hitting a hurdle though and can't figure why.
[code]...
Now - I want to add an <asp:placeholder> control inside the child page's <Content1> tags - however,the designer's intellisense doesn't show them. If I delete the MasterPageFile tag from the top of the child's page, then all of a sudden it works.Why can't I add a placeholder inside a child form?

I cannot seem to get the asp.net 2.0 tracing feature to work on even a simple website I have set the web config to:
<trace enabled="true" requestLimit="100" localOnly="false" traceMode="SortByCategory" writeToDiagnosticsTrace="true" />
However I cant even seem to get a hello world to print in the trace:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
System.Diagnostics.Trace.Write("hello world");
}
I am looking at trace.axd in the same directory as the page What am I doing wrong?

I'm doing a contract for asp.net. The owner wants it done in 2 - 3 months.Would it be worth it starting him in MVC and could I get it completed in time? It's a web page with a few modal popup extenders and about 3 grids.Is it possible to get it done with the boss very happy or should I write old web forms, and just write it clearly so it can be upgraded later?I can't miss a deadline and even though I love MVC, I kinda think I should wait until the first project is done cleanly. I haven't made an actual ASP.NET MVC app yet.

I'm in an interesting situation; I need to pass the IContainer to the IControllerActivator component that I'm defining, yet the IControllerActivator needs to be registered inside of the container. This is because the IControllerActivator will use the container to build the controllers.
I stored the container as a static reference from within the global.asax file; this way, any dependant object (like my activator) on the container can reference it. Since the activator uses the container, and needs to be registered in an autofac module, is there a way to define that this specific mapping needs a reference to the container, or can I register this after the container is built?

I understand how to use jQuery to make an AJAX call to a WebMethod from a normal page, but I'm running into problems doing it from a UserControl (ASCX). Right now the biggest Issue I'm having is that the JavaScript for getting access to the groupDropDown control is not working. It seems that since this is a UserControl hosted within DotNetNuke, the ususal method of getting the CLientID is not working since it is nested down x number of levels. Here is what I have:
Javascript:
function validateEnrolledDate(src, args) {
var isValid;
[code]....
I'm now just referencing a TextBox:<asp:TextBox ID="dealerId" runat="server" CssClass="theDealer" />
The Text in the Textbox is being set in Server Side code, and it is visible on screen.The alert message is "undefined", so something is still happening so that it is not getting the value of that textbox...

2nd in an occasional series:
Here's the first one
Is CAT.NET correct that the following is a genuine vulnerability in ASP.NET or is it a false positive?
var myInt = Int32.Parse(txtUserInput.Text);
Response.Redirect(string.Format("myPage.aspx?myId={0}", myInt);
CAT.NET is reporting this as a redirect vulnerability needing remediation via encoding myInt.

I've been handed some documentation about an API and been told to integrate it (the API uses SOAP). I'm familiar with web services and how they work, but I've never built a functional one. That is to say, I can create a basic web method in C# but I've never written anything to connect to an external system. I've read parts of books and I've not been able to find a good example about how to connect to and use a third-party API. I guess my question would be "how can I use this API with our systems?"

I'm trying to implement a small server/client web service to understand the fundamentals of WCF. I've created both the client and the server and so far have them communicating with each other through a very simple getter method. I've added in a database to the server and have a LINQ to SQL connection (I'm not sure if that's the proper terminology).
What I would like to know is, where can I learn the fundamentals now, for example: returning the number of rows into the client console window and using the basic CRUD functions from the client to update the database? I don't want to go to deep to soon, as I would like a bit of a foundation to work off before it starts to get really complex.

I need to implement wiki-like functionality within a website.
Problem is that I am not fully aware of what it might require and therefore predict a long set of refactoring till I actually nail a good version.
I tried looking for some guidelines, but haven't found much.

My task for today is to fully understand event-driven programming and how it works. Now there are several ways this can be achieved. The first one is to actually program a basic program that covers the key concepts, and the second approach is to watch a video that explains the key concepts in a way I can understand. Which approach do people recommend?
Does anyone have videos/program demos they found useful and could recommend to me? My major experiences are with ASP.NET MVC, so it would be best if the tutorial were with WebForms ASP.NET.

I hosted two asp.net web project in IIS with unique VirtualDirectory (sample and Sample2). Now i access a web page from Sample site and from this page i'm sending request to a web page in a site Sample2 with some values through Query String. I got the page and the values from query string.
Now my problem is, instead of sending values through QueryString is there is any other way to pass values from one site to another. Because, i never give the url for the second site to client. They know only the first site url based on user input i'll redirect it to the second site. Problem is user can see the values passed through QueryString and there is a chance to bookmark that link by user, it just like hacking. I donot want the user to do that.

I have a requirement where I have to transfer a user from Web Site 1 on Server A to web Site 2 on Server B.
On Web Site 1, I have to provide controls to enter user id and password and which have to be validated on Web Site 2 on server B, after validating them I have to redirect the user to Web site 2.
what is best way fo doing it. code examples are greatly appreciated.
Note: On Web Site 2, user login functionality is already existing and it is provided by ASP.Net login control, am not sure how to handle the user login process from two different places.
or is it the best way to move Web Site 2 from Server B to Server A so that, the same login controls will be shown using Iframe on Web Site A.

how to code a simple calculator in ASP.NET? Everything I try isn't working...Here's what I need to do:
Create a web page with a simple calculator. The web page will have two text boxes (with labels) for data entry, radio list box to select the operation (+, -, *, and /), label to display the result, a calculate button and clear button. Use Validation controls to validate the data entry. Write the code using try/catch block to catch any data entry error. If there is any data entry error then display the message in the result label. Create an appropriate header for the web page and add graphics to make the page look professional. Set the default focus of the form to the first text box and default button to calculate button.
