Web Forms :: Redirect Statement Raising An Exception?

Feb 7, 2011

I have the following code snippet in my aspx form :

lSQLCnConnection.Open()
liRows = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery
lSQLCnConnection.Close()
Response.Redirect(
"confirm.aspx")......

End TryWhen I run the application in debug mode, the Response.Redirect statement raises an exception. When I have breakpoint to find out the Ex.Message, it says "Expression cannot be evaluated at this time."

Stop .Net HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() Raising An Exception?

Apr 23, 2010

configure the .Net HttpWebRequest object so that it does not raise an exception when HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() is called and any 300 or 400 status codes are returned?

Jon Skeet does not think so, so I almost dare not even ask, but I find it hard to believe there is no way around this. 300 and 400 response codes are valid responses in certain circumstances. Why would we be always forced to incur the overhead of an exception?

Perhaps there is some obscure configuration setting that evaded Jon Skeet? Perhaps there is a completely different type of request object that can be used that does not have this behavior?

(and yes, I know you can just catch the exception and get the response from that, but I would like to find a way not to have to).

Vb.net - Vb User Control Raising An Event On The Calling Page?

Apr 7, 2010

i'm trying to learn about user controls. I created a user control that has a textbox and a button. What i'd like to be able to do is when i click the button in the user control, populate a label in the aspx page. I understand that i could just have a button on the page that uses some properties on the user control to get that information.. but i'd like to know how to do it with the button the user control.. the reason for this is the button is just an example.. a learning tool. if i can get this working, i'd likely be putting thing in the user control that might require this kind of passing information. Anyway.. i've found some c# examples that i tried to get working as vb.. but once started getting into the delegates and events.. well.. it made me turn to this post.

Web Forms :: Accessing Master Page From Content Page - Raising Event?

Sep 10, 2010

Here is my situation: I have a user control that has a menu in it. This user control sits on my master page. It is my main navigation menu for my application. I am having an issue where, on one of my pages, users seem to be leaving the page before committing all changes to the database, which results in a loss of data. So what I want to accomplish is - if the user is leaving this page and the data has not been saved yet, I want to prompt the user and say something like "The information is not yet saved, are you sure you want to leave this page" in a modal popup. So my approach is this: In my menu user control, create an event handler called MenuClicked that is raised when the menu web control's (in the user control) MenuItemClicked is raised, I raise my custom MenuClicked event. Then on my master page, I can catch this event in NavMenu_MenuClicked. My problem is - I need to catch this event in my content page, not the master? Am I approaching this correctly?

Raising A Modal Popup And Retrieving Additional Information From Database

Jun 23, 2010

I have a list of events that have been retrieved from a database a bit like this: Easter St Patrick's Day Christmas Independence Day ... I would like to make them links and when you click on the link it raises a modal popup and displays a bit more information from the database about the event. So far, I've set up the ModalPopupExtender like this on my page:

[Code]....

I thought the links might look something like this:

<asp:LinkButton ID="btnShowPopup" runat="server" OnCommand="ShowDetails" CommandArgument="Test">Event 1</asp:LinkButton></p>
[Code]....

I'm not quite sure how well this will repeat though. It looks like I'll have to have a ModalPopupExtender for every single link which doesn't sound very efficient. Am I doing this right?

Architecture :: How To Log Dal Exception And Showing Alert To User / Exception Occurs

Aug 3, 2010

I am working on a 3-tier asp.net application. Currently I'm stuck up in a situation where I need to handle a specific type of exception (User Defined) in DAL and Show alert to the user if that exception occurs in DAL.

I tried following things:

1) I raised that exception from the DAL and catch it in BLL and throw a new BLL exception to for that DAL exception and finally catch it in the UI layer to show the alert to the user. I've successfully implement this in my project. But there are some issues in this approach. First of all I feel this is not right way to do this as it may lead to performance related issues. Secondly, the application contains more than 500 pages and classes. so I need to attach additional catch block in every method to catch the BLL exception. which is the last option i'd like to take.

2) in second approach I logged the the DAL exception into a text file. but problem in this approach is that how could the UI layer know that exception has occurred and show the alert to the user. Is there any event in asp.net where i could handle all this activities?

my question is what is the best approach to handle this type of situation? Will Exception handling block help me in this?

I've tried reading many articles on this but i couldn't get an answer for my question? I might not be using right keywords for my search.

C# - Exception Handling - Implement Custom Exception Classes?

Jul 2, 2010

i have this application structure:

1. Presentation Layer which calls

2. Business Logic Layer which in turn calls

3. Data Access Layer to do the dealing with the database.

Now i have a Contacts page from where i can add a new contact to the database.So to add a New Contact i fill in all the required details and then call a Add Method (residing in the BLL) from the page, which in turn call a Add Method residing in the DAL.this method in the DAL returns the Current Identity of the record which is then return back to the BLL method and finally delivered on the page.this is fine. but what if a get an exception how do i handle it properly because the method in DAL has a return type of int and i dont want to throw another error!! coz other wise i will have to write try catch in almost all the methods.

//something like this
public int AddMethod(ContactClass contactObj)
{
int result = 0;[code]...

rather i want to show the user a user-friendly message which they can easily understand and in the mean while i will send a mail to myself documenting the Error that just occurred.how can i implement my custom exception classes.
