Web Forms :: Rendering Button Control @ Server Side?
Feb 5, 2010
I am trying to render the Button control @ serverside with PostBackUrl properties to set to another page ""~/page1.aspx". When I click on that button , it still postback to same page , does not postback to "page1.aspx" . I am trying to implement crosspage postback. I don't know button information and postbackurl info at design time. I Only know button and PostbackUrl info @ runtime.Code I am using
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{ div1.InnerHtml = GetRenderControl(); }
public
string GetRenderControl()
{ Button buttonAdd = new Button();
[code]...

I have some rendering logic for custom markup (a'la bbcode, but not bbcode). So that when I'm getting the stuff from DB I'm then calling MyRender.ToHTML(model.text)... Now what I do today is I just have a form below and I do a post and add the item and return the same view. My question is - how to do it with ajax? Should I create a control and return HTML a'la winforms? Is that sexy? How do you do something like that? Or should I drop it? Maybe duplicate the rendering logic with javascript?

I have a hidden variable and its value is being updated using javascript(client side) which I make a call from server side code. After making the call I am not able to retrieve the updated value from Server side variable. I went through this forum [URL] but not able find a way how to implement functionality with IFRAME. I am trying to call the client side code and retrieve the updated value from server side in page_load event.

In web application, i tried scrolling the window vertically by increasing a y axis height to 500 with a javascript that is attached to OnClientClick event of a asp.net button control with id Button1. The script i have used is
<script language="JavaScript">
function scrollToWindow()
{
window.scrollTo(0,500);
}
</script>
and the button code is as follows
<asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server"
Text="Scroll to bottom" OnClientClick="scrollToWindow()" />
If i run this page and click that button, the page scroll is not working properly. when i put alert inside that script and debug, i found that the page is actually scrolling to 0,500 but again its rendering to its normal position because of some reasons. Overcome this issue and let me know the reason behind that?

I've got two textboxes running server side and have their visibility turned off. I'm using a couple of ASP.NET controls which require the textboxes to exist. However, I am filling them from the code behind and would not like the user to see this. Can the user turn the visibility on and see the values entered in the text box? I tried using FireBug, and I couldn't seem to select the visibility option in order to edit it. However, I'm quite new to Firebug, so there may be another way? Or does running it server side mean that the client can't ever view the contents of the textbox?

I am outputting the entire HTML for my server control as follows:
public override void Render(HtmlTextWriter output)
{
output.Write(myStringBuilder.ToString());
}
myStringBuilder is a StringBuilder object that is manually built in a separate private method.Is this an efficient way to do it? Or is it better to pass the HtmlTextWriter to my private method and make multiple calls to HtmlTextWriter.Write()?

For the ASP.NET validator controls, I want to use both client-side validation for the user experience and server-side validation to guard against hackers. ASP.NET documentation leads me to believe that if EnableClientScript="True" then there will be no server-side validation if client-side validation is possible for the user agent. To get server-side validation, the documentation says use EnableClientScript="False", which bypasses client-side validation altogether.
Am I misunderstanding how the validator controls work? I ask because it seems obvious that many developers would want both client and server side validation together, and I find it hard to believe both together is not possible with one of the standard validation controls.
If I am understanding the ASP.NET documentation correctly, then I can find only two options:
Use two validator controls exactly the same except for their ID and EnableClientScript properties. Obviously ugly for maintaining two controls almost the same.Write some code behind to check if postback then invoke the Validate method on the validator group. Why write code behind if there a way to be automatic from the control?
Is there a way to do so using a single validator control with no code behind?

I know this is strange, and probably considered bad design. I need to simulate the clicking of an actual button on my asp page. I do not need the button's on_click event sub/code to execute. The issue here is that I want to trigger the ConfirmButtonExtender associated with that button. The ConfirmButtonExtender, by design, executes before the Click event code.
So to be clear, I need to actually "click" the button. What the button does is irrelevant (in fact the button is invisible and has no code). I simply need to trigger the button's ConfirmButtonExtender, not the code behind the actual clicking of the button. Like this..
Protected Sub Button1_Click(.....) Handles Button1.Click
Somehow click invisible_button (not call the Click() event, but actually "click" the button)
End Sub
----Long, convoluted details------
I have fields on a page that require user input. When the user hits submit, I want to display a confirmation dialog with the data of those fields.
To do this, I originally added a ConfirmButtonExtender to the "Submit" button (just a regular ASP button). The problem appears because the ConfirmButtonExtender executes before the OnClick event of the submit button.
During my OnClick even I took the data, populated it into a confirm textbox (which is inside a ModalPopUpExtender). I originally then used the MPE.Show() (still in the onClick event) to display my conformation textbox.
However ,the .Show() function doesn't halt code execution (which is needed, since this is a confirmation dialog). So as a result, I created an invisible button.
This invisible button now has the ConfirmButtonExtender added to it, which will display my MPE/Confirm Dialog. When the user hits "Submit", the click routine is called, all the data is stored and populated, and THEN I want to "click" the invisible button, triggering the ConfirmButtonExtender. That will halt code execution in my original Submit buttons click routine.

This is my aspx pages button properties:
<asp:Button runat="server" ID="cmdConfirm" Text="Select
Customer"
ValidationGroup="ValidateId" Height="26px" onclick="cmdSave_Click"/
Now on my Page_Load I have:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, System.EventArgs
e)
{
Name = Request.QueryString[0];
LoadCustomer();
cmdConfirm.Attributes.Add("onClick", "update("
+ Name + ");");
Conn.Close();
}
This is my button click for Select Customer button.
protected void cmdSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs
e)
{
RecordChanges();
}
Now I must run cmdSave_Click() before the cmdConfirm.Attributes.Add even though both is for same button anyway. I know that client side script will try to run first but I must run the cmdSave_Click event first to save the data. Aftre that cmdConfirm.Attributes will send the Name to the next page using a Javascript function where the stored values(stored using cmdSave_Click) will be used. I have no other choice. I cannot run the Javascript function first as it will happen before the data is stored. And also I cannot use another page as all has to be performed in one page so that user will not have to click Save twice. Can anyone tell me How I can delay the cmdConfirm.Attributes.Add until the cmdSave_Click is performed.

I currently have a file "abc.htm" in my Custom Server Control Project and it's Build Action is set to Embedded Resource.Now in the RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output) method, I need to read that file and render it on the website.I am trying the following but it's to no avail:
protected override void RenderContents(HtmlTextWriter output)
{
var providersURL = Page.ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(typeof (OpenIDSel), "OpenIDSelector.Providers.htm");
var fi = new FileInfo(providersURL); // <- exception here
//the remaining code is to possibly render the file
}
This is an example of how the providersURL is:
/WebResource.axd?d=kyU2OiYu6lwshLH4pRUCUmG-pzI4xDC1ii9u032IPWwUzMsFzFHzL3veInwslz8Y0&t=634056587753507131
FileInfo is throwing System.ArgumentException: Illegal characters in path.

I am using two user controls in my page. The controls are loaded dynamically one at a time. I'm just referencing the user controls in the page and loading them dynamically using 'LoadControl()'. Everything is working fine till now and the user can switch the controls one another.
Here the issue I found is eventhough the controls are working as expected and the data is visible, the rendered HTML contains only the first loaded user control's markup.
Even if the current control displayed is 'usercontrol2', the source shows 'usercontrol1' markup. How can I force the page to render 'usercontrol2' markup and remove 'usercontrol1' markup while loading'usercontrol2'?

I have a page that downloads a dataset and streams the output to an Excel file by modifying the response headers.
I want to write an AJAX call on the client side that can display a modaldialog while the file is being generated and dismiss the modaldialog when the file has been fully rendered.
I can turn the dalog on when the user clicks a link, but for some reason my pages return readystate 4 and status 200 prematurely. (These are the codes that say the page is done)
Because this is happening, either the modal dialog is dismissed immediately or I need the user to dismiss it.
Has anyone seen this before? Is this an issue with streaming a file instead of hitting a physical page?
Does anyone have a work-around, or will I need to have the user manually dismiss the dialog?
