Web Forms :: "tree Menu" Controlling Silverlight Media Source?
Jun 14, 2010
I have a well established site in asp.net. I need to use the silverlight player to provide video streaming of meetings we have pre-recorded. I want to be able to provide a list of agenda items in a list / menu style setup in the asp.net page, then based on which link the click change which video the silverlight player plays.
I also need to capture some information from the asp.net page, and don't have time to build a full silverlight application to manage. What is the best way to do this?
I know to put the object tag, and set the source to the xaml file / xap file, but how can I change the video source inside the xaml file? Or is it going to be easier to build out the "full page in silverlight" and then just wrap it in the asp.net page?

I am having trouble accessing an embedded Silverlight 2 media player in an aspx page from Javascript and was hoping someone might offer some insight on what's going on.
What I want to do is fire a javascript event on the client when a button is pressed to change the Silverlight media player media source and then play the newly selected file.
I found what seemed like a pretty straightforward example on the silverlight.net site that looked like this:
[Code]....
However, when I run it, I get an error "undefinedObject doesn't support this property or method".
I've confirmed that the client-side id I am using is correct, and I have tried using document.GetElementByID in place of $find (which is what I use elsewhere on the site successfully; my javascript kung fu is weak and I'm not precisely sure what the difference
might be) but it still doesn't work. It all seems like it should work as it was presented in the example, but I only get that error.

My application plays movies from specific positions, so even a position mentioned in milliseconds matters for me. I'm assigning a position to a media element but it's showing the wrong frame. I don't know why media player is not playing from the position that I'm giving. Here is some sample code:
TimeSpan oTimeSpan = TimeSpan.FromMilliseconds(16800200); // This shows 04:40:00.2000000
MediaPlayer.Position = oTimeSpan; // But after assigning, value is 04:40:00.1990000

I am using VSTS 2008 + C# + .Net 3.5 + Silverlight 3.0 + ASP.Net to develop a Silverlight application (a video media player) in browser and the function is simple, just use MediaElement to play a remote video file.The remote server is Windows Server 2008 + IIS 7.0 + IIS Media Bit Rate Throttling Control.Since the request media URL can be discovered (e.g. from traffic sniffer), and I want to know how to prevent from download directly from the Url? i.e. I want end user to use my Silverlight media player application in browser to play the file, prevent them from download to local directly. Any easy and quick solution or reference code/documents?

I am reviewing some existing ASP.NET code that used ASP.NET WebParts. The web parts implement IWebActionable in order to control the items shown on the web part's top-right drop down menu.
The rendered HTML for each context menu item looks something like this:
<DIV>
<A class="menuItem" onclick="stuff" href="javascript:void(0)">
<IMG src="something.gif"/>Menu text
</A>
</DIV>
I want to use the CSS Sprites technique on the images used for the menu items. However, in order to do this I need to have some control over the rendered HTML, changing it to something more like this:
<DIV>
<A class="menuItem thisItemCssSpriteClass" onclick="stuff" href="javascript:void(0)">
Menu text
</A>
</DIV>

I have an aspx page which has a ASP.NET 4 menu control (rendered as ul/li's instead of tables) and a div right below it which contains a Silverlight .xap. When the user selects a menu item in the menu control, the Silverlight app gets updated. In IE 7 & 8, when I hover over the menu, the menu items are "hidden" behind the Silverlight and I can partially see only the first child item. However, the menu appears just fine in Firefox. I thought something in my CSS caused it and I removed all CSS references but it still stays hidden behind the Silverlight app. How do I bring the menu control to the front?Here's my menu -
<asp:Menu ID="mnuReports" runat="server" Orientation="Horizontal" OnMenuItemClick="mnuReports_MenuItemClick"
BackColor="#DDDDDD" ForeColor="#000000" StaticSubMenuIndent="10px" MaximumDynamicDisplayLevels="1"
StaticEnableDefaultPopOutImage="False"> [code]...

I have an ASP .NET 2.0 (4.0 is an option) page that I've embedded the Windows Media Player to using OBJECT tags.
The player is connecting to a Windows Media Services publishing point on the Web server. This is on a 2008 server.
Everything works great, see it here: [URL]
If I understand correctly, the information the player is showing in its status bar comes from the ID3 tags of the current track. Continuing on this line of thought, the ID3 information must be coming to the player from the media server. Correct?
What I want to do is collect and use the information about the track that's current being played. I'd like to be able to create a custom display for the current track information. I'd also like to put a custom value in the track information to look up additional information about the artist/track from a database.

so to clarify, can i play a windows media player in a webpage without having it installed? because at the moment the follwing bit of code only plays my files asfter i installed windows media player on my PC.
private static string MediaPlayer(string file)

In Visual Studio 2008 I have a Class Library project (called Media) to which I added a Web Reference (not a Service Reference) to a third-party web service (wsdl). In the Class Library project a proxy class is created for using the service along with several classes for the types used in that service.
I also have a second Class Library (called Sync) that references the first one. And then I have a Web Site project that references the second class library. All of this is .NET 3.5
So Web Site > Class Library (Sync) > Class Library with web service reference (Media)
I want to step into the generated code, so I fire up the web site in IIS 7.5 and trigger the call to a method in the second class library (Sync) that in turn should call the web service proxy. I was fully expecting to hit the breakpoint, but instead got an exception:
Unable to generate a temporary class(result=1). error CS0029: Cannotimplicitly convert type Media.WebService.multiValuedAttribute to Media.WebService.multiValuedAttribute[]
Why is ASP.NET trying to generate a temporary class? Don't I already have the generated class from the first Class Library (Media)?

I'm sure you've seen sites that display a portion of the available text in a limited space followed by an ellipsis or a [more] link. That's what I need to do. The text is in a database field, and includes carriage returns and line feeds. I can't just count the number of characters. How can I only display the text that will fit in a defined space? I've tried using a panel control with the height defined. I've also tried a div with the height defined. Neither has worked. How is this done?

When I declare the TreeView Nodes:
[Code]....
I can programmatically control the collapse and expansion of nodes:
[Code]....
When I use a SiteMapDataSource:
[Code]....
How do I now programmatically expand and collapse nodes? The code above doesn't work because the number of nodes is now 0.
