WebMatrix :: Custom Default Directory For New Websites?

I am trying to limit what I write on all my .cshtml pages. For example, on everypage I am @using myDLL and "connecting" to sql server.
I write that out like
@using System.myDLL;
@{
myDLL dll = new myDLL();
dll.ConnectionString = "blablabla";
}
How can I remove the need to do that to every single page? I think I can create a web.config and do some funky stuff... can someone show examples?
When i created a simple site via Matrix which adopts Razor technology by default, i found site automatically display "default.cshtml" if started through "http://localhost:xxxx/bread/" ; however i hadn't set "default.cshtml" as "default document" for this site, even i seek in the "applicationhost.config" i just find
<defaultDocument enabled="true">
<files>
<add value="Default.htm" />
<add value="Default.asp" />
<add value="index.htm" />
<add value="index.html" />
<add value="iisstart.htm" />
<add value="default.aspx" />
</files>
</defaultDocument>
which apparently hasn't "...cshtml" yet. So I am wondering now why in this case the web server actively sets "default.cshtml" as default start page ?
My login.aspx is in a Login folder of my website. I want this to be the default document of my website in IIS. is this possible? or should I create a home.aspx page that redirects to login.aspx?
View 4 RepliesAnybody know how to setup a virtual directory in IIS Express for things like Shared Resources? I can't figure out where to set it up in Web Matrix?
View 5 RepliesI would like to know the steps for creating a Virtual Directory for Webmatrix. I referred the post [URL] but could not understand how it can be done.
View 6 RepliesCreated a site using the StarterSite template in WebMatrix and am trying to change the default login page url from Account/Login.cshtml to /Signin.cshtml. I've tried setting the loginUrl under the authentication section in web.config to no avail
View 5 RepliesI've tried setting the <pages pageBaseType="DynamicWebPage" /> value in web.config, but when I response.write out the page type, I'm still getting Microsoft.WebPages.WebPage.
I'm simply trying to sub-class WebPage and add some additional functionality such as a dynamic PageData dictionary similar to Phil Haack's dynamic ViewData dictionary.
Why is there no default 'create/open' access to 'WebSites' from the VS2010 start page?
Background:I've succesfully been developing ASP.NET web applications (via WebSite method ((((Not WebProjects)))), using VisualWebDeveloper) for roughly 3 years. Personally, I prefer the WebSite method or strategy due to the decrease in both size and complexity (the web applications I build are generally for around 50-100 simultaneous users logging in and out and constantly manipulating data). I will continue bulding my sites via the 'Website' method provided VS2010 doesn't begin it's deprecation.The root of this question (which boiled into this post) came from perusing this article and this video tutorial. It's a shame to see functionality that brings with it an overall ease of use and increase in production capacity by decreasing both size and complexity of web application development... downplayed.
If the Visual Studio 2010 Development Team left this functionality out for a reason, I would very much like to know. So that I know what is going to be "sponsored by Microsoft" in a couple of years and I don't waste another second considering using the 'WebSite method' as a viable solution (as I know that I can't stick with vs2008 while rest the development community gets to evolve with the innovations implemented within vs2010)... WebSite method or the WebProjects method.
I have created a custom control and I intended to assign some attributes which is not necessary to implament.
I also assign default value for them but I am getting System.NullReferenceException error.
Here is my CC's attibute code;
public class ApplicationModule2010 : CompositeControl
{
[DefaultValue(true)]
public bool AppFormOnLine { get { return (bool)ViewState["AppFormOnLine"]; } set { ViewState["AppFormOnLine"] = value; } }
...
also ı have written the below code for another attribute but its default value doesn't work as well;
[DefaultValue("Application is Offline ! Define an offline Text insted of this text !<br/><br/>TugberkUgurlu.Com")]
public string OfflineText { get { return (string)ViewState["OfflineText"]; } set { ViewState["OfflineText"] = value; } }
What am I missing here ?
I want to show custom message when no data is present to display in WebGrid.
View 2 RepliesHow does Google custom search results posts data to partner site technically? We have requirement to place our form on our partner sites and display results too.
1) Google custom search box is simple javascript and posts form to google.com. But ours will have to fetch html from our servers cause it's not a simple text box, would need some ajax.
2) How do we then display the results on partner website?
Concept is same like Google custom search. I am just wondering how do we do it in ASP.NET?
the account we use to copy/publish websites to our web server is not allowing us access to push websites. I've added this account to the permissions in the links listed in the below link, but i don't have success when trying to push remotely. When the account is in the local admins account, everything works flawlessly, but we are not allowed to have it in there. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vssetup/thread/31be047e-4716-4974-b8a1-be0111b50199 I've googled and searched a lot for this particular error, but am not finding an answer that helps. We get this error, 'Unable to create the Web 'http://edea01/test/planning'. You are not authorized to perform the current operation', and the above link is the scenario that matches mine the most. I don't do develompment work, but am asked to figure out this connection problem.
View 3 RepliesI have an application that I run in several places (demo, production, local, etc.) that all use different virtual directories for the placement of the MVC application.
I use StructureMap in this application, so I am overriding the ControllerFactory to use StructureMap to build controllers (when the passed controller instance is not null).
My problem is that the controller instance being passed to the controller factory IS null, which is fine if said route didn't exist, but it does... specifically, it should be my DEFAULT ROOT route.
Basically if I host the app at [URL], everything works fine except when I have a '/' on the end of the URL (meaning,[URL]... the latter works fine, while the former gives me the error). It looks like when that slash is there, the routing engine is deciding that it should be looking for a controller named MvcController, which doesn't exist, and which then passes the null controller instance to the ControllerFactory, resulting in the following error:
The controller for path '/Mvc/' could not be found or it does not implement IController.
My Default route is the standard default route. Removing all other routes has no effect. My default controller is HomeController.
I have a simple ASP.NET 3.5 application running under IIS7 under a virtual directory. So the URL of my app is like http://site.com/app. I want to 301-redirect the request to site.com/app/default.aspx to site.com/app for better SEO. I have to do this redirect through code only, not by any IIS settings. I am unable to do so via code mentioned in this article:
[URL]
The code:
if (request.RawUrl.Equals("/default.aspx"))
{
newUrl = string.Format("{0}://{1}{2}",
request.Url.Scheme,
request.Url.Authority,
request.RawUrl.Remove(request.RawUrl.LastIndexOf("/default.aspx", StringComparison.OrdinalIgnoreCase)));
context.Response.Status = "301 moved permanently";
context.Response.AddHeader("Location", newUrl);
}
seems to go into an infinite loop when the application is under a virtual directory. the request.RawUrl property always returns "/default.aspx" even after a 301 redirect causing the infinite loop.
I've found a Webmatrix help article that says MS Webmatrix "publishes the (SQL Server or MySQL) database by creating scripts that run in a database that has been created for you by your hosting provider." That is wonderful, except I can't get it to work when I'm trying to publish a MySQL database (backing wordpress) through FTP (my hosting provider does not support 'web deploy'). Again, no problem, since it is already documented that " FTP protocols cannot be used to publish MySQL database. " But this does not excuse Webmatrix from generating MySQL database install scripts for me. During the publishing step, no database install script is generated - at least that I can tell - and there is no manual option to create a database export / backup / install script.
In short, as Webmatrix goes, I'm dead in the water trying to get my database uploaded to my hosting provider. Does anyone know the trick to force Webmatrix to create the MySQL database install scripts on my local box? Once created, I can take-over the upload and install process.
I'm wondering if it is possible to include Microsoft.Data.Entity.CTP.dll reference to WebMatrix site and if the Compact edition of the database would support it? I'd kinda love use something like
code-first development in my WebMatrix project. I think is even easier than writing SQL-s into the code...
When I navigate to [URL] (the default page for the directory) it displays it without logging in (as I want). But when going to [URL] FormsAuthentication redirects to [URL] to login. There isn't a way to set the path for just "/" in the web.config, I get an error. This only happens on my ISP (hosted Windows 2003), I can't reproduce this issue locally on my test 2003 boxes.

Html.LabelFor()
I struggle with publishing 2 databases from WebMatrix using WebDeploy. On Publish settings screen I specify 2 different connection strings, but on Publish Compatibility screen Database names in both destination connection strings are equal. When I return to settings screen, original value is replaced there as well.
How destination server connection strings are evaluated? Here are connection strings from the root web.config file, which are set by hidden parameters in my parameters.xml:
<connectionStrings>
<add connectionString="Server=(local);Database=xxx;Uid=xxx;Pwd=xxx" name="xxx" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
<add connectionString="Server=(local);Database=xxx2;Uid=xxx;Pwd=xxx" name="xxx" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
If I create two websites using the starter site template logging into one shows me logged into the other.
Here are the steps:
Create starter website called website1 Create starter website called website2 Run both websites in the same browser, firefox Register an account in website1 Log out of website1 Log back into website1 Refresh website2 and it shows my login name from website1 Has anyone else encountered this?
I downloaded WebMatrix thinking I could create a local Intranet page and simply host it from my server. Can I do this with WebMatrix? If so how?
View 1 RepliesI'm often experiencing that keyboard shortcuts stops working in WebMatrix. This is very annoying as CTRL-S, CTRL-C, CTRL-V, etc. stops working, all of which are heavily used when programming. It's obviously hard to explain how to reproduce this, but I waswondering if someone knows a quick-fix?
View 12 RepliesI have some (probably very basic) questions about developing custom controls. I am wanting to derive a set of button controls, and the first one I have started on is a "DeleteButton", that has a additional property (DeleteConfirmationText) that is built into the OnClientClick attribute. To get that added, I overrode the Render method as follows:
[Code]....
This all works well. Now, I will add some logic to make sure that there is some text in the DeleteConfirmationText property, but that isn't the intent of my question.
What I am also wanting to do is to override some of the default property values, so I added that to the default constructor:
[Code]....
Now, in the designer in VS2008, and I look at the properties for the control, there isn't a default value shown in the "Properties" section, and the Causesvalidation still shows the underlying classes default value of "True". As well, in design mode, where the GridView control that containse my DeleteButton control would be displayed, there is an error box "There was an error rendering the control. 'Are you certain you want to delete this attorney?' cound not be set on property 'DeleteConfirmationText'. Here's the markup where I am defining the deletebutton control:
[Code]....
What am I doing wrong?
