WebMatrix :: Linux Hosting And Processing PHP - Move Blog Into Windows?

Feb 5, 2011

I have a Wordpress blog on GoDaddy. I originally had it using "Windows Hosting" but ran into problems so moved it to "Linux Hosting" since I was told it was more compatible and there would be fewer issues. I had a 3rd party customize the blog and add some code, etc. I would like now to use WebMatrix to continue customizing the blog on my own, and be able to step through code and add php etc. So my questions are these. Will Webmatrix work in this scenario --- Linux Hosting and processing PHP? Or do I have to move my blog onto Windows Hosting so that it uses IIS? And second...what would I have to do...FTP down my wordpress files as well as my database in order to use Webmatrix?

WebMatrix :: Moving Drupal From WebMatrix To Hosting?

Nov 13, 2010

I got the first beta of WebMatrix, downloaded Drupal, and got a site more or less going. I then tried to move it to two different hosts - first the IIS server running on my own domain controller, then to my hosting service. I dumped the DB with mysqldump, and imported it to the databases running on each server. Then I ftp'd the code and configuration files to both servers, and made appropriate configuration changes (primarily the mysql connect string). On both servers I have the same problem: The site comes up in its home page and looks great, but as soon as I log in as the site admin, I get a 404 (not found) error. Since it looks like virtually everything in Drupal is driven from the database, I really haven't the faintest idea where to start debugging this.

To Use Lucene (on Linux) And .net (on Windows) At The Same Time?

Jan 13, 2010

I want to start a new project I need performance as well as a neat and robust GUI

about the performance I have around 2 millions documents which I like to index'em by the help of lucene installed on linux due to its performance and security.

and about GUI I'd like to have flexible and professional look website and since I'm experienced with .net I'd like to retrieve the lucene's result and show it in my own way.

I've heard about some RESTful services available inside the lucene but I don't have any clue according to that and how to connect these two together.

how can I connect asp.net to lucene?

Most Efficient Way To Update A MySQL Database On A Linux Host With That Of .Net Form On Windows Host?

Mar 17, 2010

My kind webhost (1and1) royally asked me to go elsewhere to do something like this.

I have 2 sites. One of them was developed by a .Net programmer. Now I am contracted to implement a PHP site and fetch data from the .Net site.

There is an ASP.Net form that a customer fills and when they hit submit, the data gets stored in SQL Server DB. How do I also store the same data in MySQL parallelly? I cannot directly use some database connectors with ASP.Net since MySQL connectivity is not supported on 1and1 Windows hosting (biz account, no less!).

What I thought of is to publish an RSS feed of entries in ASP.Net site and routinely scrape that data into MySQL on Linux host. It is an overkill, I know. Not efficient.

Do Background Processing Without Using Windows Service?

Mar 11, 2011

I have an web application which needs some calculations and processing on data. This job is a long running job(few hours). Job is initiated by user.

Requirement.

User Clicks on Process Data.
Some functions are called to start data processing.
Data Processing runs for hours.
User is given feedback of percentage completed etc.
Even if user logs off and then again log on he should get this feedback.

The requirement is somewhat similar to Spiceworks. Where it runs in background to detect the devices/computers in network and the user is notified in his page about the progress. But spicework uses windows service. We don't want to us windows service.

Now the question is.

What if user closes the page, will the task still run in background. This task has to be completed fully. If terminated in between output will not have any meaning. How to actually to design this long running process. In ASP.Net environment. Also is there a way to show all/same user who logs in the status of processing.

Set Up Windows Authentication In WebMatrix Beta 2?

Oct 8, 2010

I have an ASP.NET site where authentication mode="Windows". Just downloaded WebMatrix beta 2 yesterday, trying to debug my app.

In WebMatrix, I'm getting 401 errors after pressing F5 in Visual Studio. Also in VS, getting "Unable to start debugging on the web server. An authentication error occurred while communication with the web server." When I click the help button, MSDN tells me I need to enable Windows authentication.

I don't see an option for authentication in WebMatrix.

More info (not sure if this applies). I've enabled SSL in WebMatrix. VS is set up to use a custom web server with the URL of https://localhost:44300/routing/development.aspx. In WebMatrix, the URL in the request view is https://localhost:44300/routing/development.aspx/debugattach.aspx (not sure where debugattach.aspx is coming from).

I'm asking this because the hosting provider I'm currently with only support SQL Server 2008 as a database, but I'd like to run my website off a document database.

Windows Server Version Requirements Needed When Contacting Web Hosting Provider?

Nov 30, 2010

We are trying to implment some forms written in ASP.NET 2.0 and I'm trying to understand what Windows server version requirements are needed when contacting a web hosting provider etc? I see there are many versions from 1.0, 2.0, 3.5 and 4.0 which appears to be the latest version, well as far as I can see. Therefore if we sign up for hosting services and the provider only have only version 4 will this be backward compatible to support our ASP.NET 2.0 forms?

Write A Page Where User's Can Write A Blog Post And Publish It To The Blog?

I want to write a page where user's can write a blog post and publish it to the blog. I've downloaded blog engine .NET and looked at the code and I like the way they do it, but it's completely an overkill of what I need. What I need is only a title, author, date, and the blog post it self. I don't even want users to post comments or anything like that. My approach is to save all those blog post information into an xml and then when a page loads it loops around those xml files to show the blog post.

Security :: RoleProvider Error "processing Of Configuration File" For Windows 2003

Feb 2, 2010

I am getting an error with my custom RoleProvider (based on System.Web.Security.RoleProvider) initializing in my ASP.NET application. The error is: "Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request." I have not seen it on Windows 2008 servers, and have not seen the error when the ASP.NET application was built under .NET 2.0 (running on this same server). Any thoughts on the nature of the error?
