View 1 RepliesMy existing system has Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Web Developer 2010 Express. But Microsoft web installer for Webmatrix has made Wematrix Launch ribbon menu pointing to Visual Studio 2008. How could I make Webmatrix point to Visual Web Express 2010. To make use of IntelliSense and the debugger, I have to manually launch Visual Web Developer 2010 Express.
View 8 RepliesI just installed SQL Server 2008 Management studio Express on my Vista machine.i tried connecting to local machine using :
.sqlexpress, (local)sqlexpress, or .SQLExpress, MyPCNAMESQLExpress
nothing is working, getting this error:
-----------------------------
Cannot connect to PC-NAMESQLEXPRESS. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I am developing a web application and need to continue development while travelling. I have SQL Server express installed on my desktop and my laptop but (obviously) the server names differ on each machine. eg "MydesktopSQLSERVEREXPRESS" and "MyLaptopSQLSERVEREXPRESS".
Anyone know of a way I can use a generic connection string or something so I can simply transfer the solution file from my desktop to my laptop and continue development on the road?
After reinstalling Visual Web Developer 2008 express a few times I still don,t have design view just source view.
View 3 RepliesI have been using VWD2010 Express for a website that I am working on. Due to a delay in implementing the 4.0 framework at the hosting service that I use, I need to finish up with VWD2008 Express. Is there a simple way to save my project so that it is compatible with 2008?
View 2 Repliesis there anyway i can connect to MySql through WebMatrix using asp.net
View 3 RepliesAnybody know how to setup a virtual directory in IIS Express for things like Shared Resources? I can't figure out where to set it up in Web Matrix?
View 5 RepliesI have been struggling to get WebMatrix to serve any cshtml files. I performed a fresh install of WebMatrix, then started a tutorial which involves creating one small cshtml file. Whenever I try to run the site, I get the following error:
This type of page is not served.
Description: The type of page you have requested is not served because it has been explicitly forbidden. The extension '.cshtml' may be incorrect. review the URL below and make sure that it is spelled correctly.
Requested URL: /Home.cshtml
I tried reinstalling to no avail.
I am running Windows 7 Pro, with IIS 7 installed. (IIS Express is supposed to be able to run side-by-side no problemo)
I don't have web server account yet so I must test my applications with the Web Development Server under VS 2010 with C# but I read that I couldn't send emails under that server but I also read that I can send email with IIS7 Express and that's the main reason why I've install Webmatrix. Maybe someone can confirm this. So for the moment I am redirecting my emails into a local folder and it is working perfectly. Here is part of the code I've add to the Web.Config for doing that.

As you can see I am redirecting the emails to the D: emp

What are the values of username & password. or others when we use the Webmatrix server and how can I fint hem? It was hell posting this text I think the inserted code was interfering with the HTML of the message or there are bugs in the editor,
I been trying to attach a database in sql 2008 express created in VS 2008 Professional. I have been getting error message and codes which there is no support for once you click the link in the message whats up with that? to my most recent memory it had something to do with permissions... but I was logged in as adminstrator so that confuses me.
View 2 RepliesUsing the Web Platform installer, in installed both the Visual Web Developer Express 2008 and SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008. Next, I connected to my local SQL Server Express 2008 and created a simple database and table using Visual Web Developer Express 2008 where the database file resided in the app data folder of my website. I can connect and explore the table from both Visual
Web Developer 2008 as well as the full blown version of Visual Studio 2008.
I am new to vwd. I installed vwd express edition 2008 with sql express 2008 in xp sp2. After this i installed report view 2008 addon for vwd express. After the installation i noticed that there is no toolbox in my vwd. Before it was there.
View 1 RepliesHopefully this is a simple question. I am filling in for someone out.
We currently are using 2008 Express. Do I need to remove this prior to installing 2008 Developer, or can I simply just install over.
is there any difference between sql express and sql client. Actually I have been told to install a sql client using which i will connect to the sql server installed remotely. Also I have sql express edition 2008 installed on my machine. So is it the same. Will I be able to connect to the sql server using the sql server express edition.?
View 2 RepliesI have a ASP project that I have done before and it was working fine with SQL Serve Express 2005. After formatting my PC, I installed first VS 2008 Pro and then SQL Server Developer 2008 and I'm testing on my laptop but I can't connect to database. After reading a couple of articles I knew that I can't use mdf file because I'm using SQL Developer so it needs another procedure to follow such as changing the parameters in Web.Config
Web.Config
<connectionStrings>
<add name="Connection" connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Store.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/>
</connectionStrings>
I tried a lot of soultion like start SQL browser Service to be on but still didn't work, also I tried to change the instance name in VS in options but also didn't work with me.
After I installed Visual Studio 2008 Standard edition, then I upgrade "SQL Server Express 2005" to "SQL Server Express 2008 SP2". Process upgrading SQL Server Express 2008 was going succesfully (none of the process was fail).
But when I create a New Website I could not add a new item "SQL Server Database" into my website file. Because Visual Studio always rejected any new "SQL Server Database" by giving message below (underline):
This server version is not supported. Only servers up to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 are supported.
I started working on a website using 2010 Express. However, the hosting company that I am using hasn't fully implemented .NET 4.0. I'm wondering if there is a way that I can save my website for compatability with 2008 express. Then I can finish and publis using 2008 Express.
View 1 RepliesI am playing around with WebMatrix ans SQL CE 4.0. I wanted to load up a SQL CE V4.0 db from an Access db.
Tried to connect SSMS Exp to SQL 4.0 sdf file (created in WebMatrix starter site template) and was rejected with the following error that SSMS Express is not yet "aware" of SQL CE V4.0):
Cannot connect to C:Users....App_DataStarterSite.sdf.
This is not a valid SQL Server Compact Database file or this file version is not supported by current SQL Server Compact Engine. (SQL Server Compact ADO.NET Data Provider)
[code]...
The sdf file is "a valid SQL Server Compact Database file" - it works fine in WebMatrix.
What do I need to do to make SQL CE 4.0 files kosher for SSMS Express? The error messages suggest that I need to update the SQL Server Compact ADO.NET Data Provider, however I might do that.
I'm using MS Visual Web Developer 2010 Express to build a website that connects to a SQL server 2000 database. Is it possible to connect to SQL 2000 using providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"? I'm guessing not. Or am I limited to using providerName="System.Data.OleDb" ? And seems both connections are under this ADO.NET umbrella. confirm one way or the other ... I'm a bit confused.
From web.config:
<connectionStrings>
<add name="SubscrTypeConnectionString" connectionString="Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=my-server-host;Persist Security Info=True;Password=123abcde;User ID=test;Initial Catalog=Apps"
providerName="System.Data.OleDb" />
</connectionStrings>
So I believe I need to use OleDbCommand calls. I've seen many examples to do gridview select/edit/delete using SqlClient but not OleDb calls in VB code. Links to sample code would be great.
C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server100COM>tablediff -sourceserver "warehousebox"
-sourcedatabase "table1" -sourcetable "siqvirtual" -destinationserver "mainbox" -de
stinationdatabase "table1" -destinationtable "siqvirtual" -destinationuser "sarah"
-destinationpassword "hello" -strict -f "c:fooDiff.sql"
Since these table are on two different boxes and 2 different versions, I am getting error message that tables cant be compared because they have different schema's.Schema's are the same but they are on different machines and different servers. What is a work around it?
I have installed Visual Studio 2010 ultimate (trial version) on my PC,it's working fine but i am getting issue with sql server 2005,it's not working now.
I m using SQL Server 2005 Express edition.The error when i am trying to connect sql server with windows authentication is
"This version of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express can only be used to connect to SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 servers. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionDlg)".
I tried to connect to the SQL Server (2000) with the VS 2010 Express. I got error saying "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later".
View 1 RepliesI recently purchased a new computer running Windows 7 Home, and after installing Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express, I am unable to connect to the database using the "Connect To Database" wizard. I get the following error:
"This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later."
The version of SQL Server 2005 Express I've downloaded is directly from the Microsoft site and I also downloaded the SP3 to be used with Windows 7, x64 (which I presumed was a later version of the database). I am able to connect to the database programatically, but I would like to get the wizard functionality working as well (as I am unable to add a database to my projects, using the "Add New Item" wizard either).
