AJAX :: Controls Work In Subfolders But Not In Root Folder?

Jan 8, 2010

EDITED To make issue more clear. I have also discovered this same issue with validatorcallout extensions used in a usercontrol in a root page and a subfolderpage

I have a strange issue I cannot figure out. I have a usercontrol that is used to display news story details. One of the requirements is to be able to email the story to someone. In this control I have included a modal popup to do contain the email form. What is really strange is that if the control is used in a page in a subfolder themodalpopup works as designed but when the control is in a page in the root folder while the usercontrol still works, themodalpopup control stops working.

Controls/StoryDetails.ascx

[Code]....

This control gets placed within a masterpage via a base MasterPageClass when there is a storyid in the querystring object

[Code]....

When the master page resides at the root level the popup doesn't work but in anyother folder it does work.

Web Forms :: Folder To Store WebControl, Without Actually Creating That Folder On Website

Dec 16, 2010

I want to create a folder to store some web controls, so the site structure doesn't have a zillion files in the root.

Except that if I create an ordinary folder, that folder is also visible on the web site. MSDN said you cannot put it in App_Code, and it doesn't really make sense to put it in other special folder like App_Data or App_Theme.

How To Stress Test An ORM Data-driven Website

Nov 22, 2010

I'm used to developing private applications for very small amount of concurrent users (usually no more than 10) on very good servers, so I have never been pressed about stress testing my applications. That being said, this is something I want to have a better grasp on my applications.

FYI, all of my websites are based on ASP.NET 3.5 (WebForms), NHibernate (specially interested in testing it with numerous concurrent sessions) as the ORM of choice and require Active Directory authentication.

C# - How To Unit Test A Website With No Backend Class

Feb 26, 2010

A friend suggested instead of having a backend class which verifies the user permission in every public function (results are cached and non static) i should have a more 'streamlined' site. When i dropped the backend i also drop the database code and merged them in the appropriate user permission (base user, logged_in_user, moderator).

The site code looks better now that merging them has decreased LOC (tons of LOC in fact) and i write Method() instead of backend.Method() which increases readability. However now that i have no backend how am i suppose to unit test my code? and what about things like user file upload with different extensions? (txt vs jpg vs FLAC)

Installation :: Test Setup Package On IIS6 Website?

Jan 17, 2011

I am working on a setup package that installs a web site on IIS7 and IIS6. I've already made it for IIS7, now I need to make it for IIS6. But I am working under windows 7 so I can't install IIS6 on it. Any way, I have to test my setup project. What are the ways to do it (preferrably free and legal ;) ) ? I can think of a remote connection to a machine that already has IIS6 and using a virtual machine, for example virtualbox.org . But even though virtualbox.org is free, WinXP with IIS6 isn't ;) .

AJAX :: Publish A Website To A Test Server Including Controls

Mar 17, 2011

I'm trying to publish my asp.net application to a server but I need to be able to debug the application on the server in order to test session variables and other things. Originally, I copied and pasted the application and it works fine on the server except for some error reports. Furthermore, I was not able to run through visual studio because it was giving me an error for every ajax control I had. Then I went through publishing the website and it stripped all of my C# code such that I can't debug the files. I need to be able to take care of the errors created by the ajax controls AND debug the application in visual studio at the same time.

Configuration :: Test For Memory Leaks On A Website Running Locally?

Nov 14, 2010

The application pool randomly shuts down. I am assuming this is due to Rapid Fail Protection and errors are occuring that are triggering it. However... there are no errors being reported in the event logs. So my next inclination is to think of the possibilities of a memory leak. How do you test for memory leaks on a website running locally?

C# - Is A New Thread In A Visual Studio Test Project Aborted When The Test Ends

May 15, 2010

i have to do some message exchange with a 3rd party (in a website). When the client posts a page, i start the message exchange. When that doesn't succeed for some reason, i report this to the client by rendering the page with a message. On the background, in a separate thread, i start a process to send abort messages to the 3rd party. I can't do this while the user is waiting for the page to come back, because it might take a few minutes. But in a test project, the test ends when the message to the 3rd party is sent, and after the new thread is started. But it seems that the new thread also ends, when the test is done.

Is that normal behaviour?I do start the thread in a new class with a reference to 2 objects from the class which tries to send the message in the first place, may that be a problem?EDIT: it keeps running when the whole process is started in IIS

C# - Remove Project Folder From Website URL?

Mar 21, 2011

I have a c# website project in visual studio 2010, and all of my .aspx pages are currently being stored in a ~/Forms directory. The problem is that when I want to go to any web pages, they are all prefixed with "http://localhost:000/Forms/", when what I really want is "http://localhost:000/". So, "http://localhost:000/AboutUs.aspx" instead of "http://localhost:000/Forms/AboutUs.aspx". What is the preferred way to deal with a situation like this? I don't want to rig anything up.

Configuration :: Cannot Delete A Folder In A Website

Dec 13, 2010

On our website, we have an application within our website. The following is the folder structure:

website1 (main website)
bin directory1
website2(an application)
bin directory2
webconfig2
webconfig1

There are other folders under each of the main folders which contain other pages, images, etc.

We're trying to upgrade the website and are encountering some difficulties. We want to remove the website2 from the main website to see it it's causing the problem.

However, we cannot remove the bin folder and so we can't remove the website2 folder. We've been able to delete everything but the bin folder itself. We've tried downing the website and the application pool but we still get the 'access denied' error message.
