Installation :: Test Setup Package On IIS6 Website?

I am working on a setup package that installs a web site on IIS7 and IIS6. I've already made it for IIS7, now I need to make it for IIS6. But I am working under windows 7 so I can't install IIS6 on it. Any way, I have to test my setup project. What are the ways to do it (preferrably free and legal ;) ) ? I can think of a remote connection to a machine that already has IIS6 and using a virtual machine, for example virtualbox.org . But even though virtualbox.org is free, WinXP with IIS6 isn't ;) .

I have a web setup package project alongside an old .asmx web service. When I build it I only get 'MyService.msi' and not the 'Setup.exe' in the 'Release' folder after build. Normally the .msi suffices for installation, but on Windows Server 2008 R2 I am getting denied from installing the .msi pacakge. I can only install .exe packages after right clicking and stating "Install as Administrator".
The server admin is still new to 2008 R2 and not sure why I can't install an .msi because I am an admin, so for now if I knew how to get that web setup package to generate the Setup.exe file as well I see my other VS.NET setup packages create.

I have 2 machines on a domain. The first machine has IIS 6. 0 inatalled on it, whereas the second machine has published web content.
On the local machine ie. Web server i have configured the website like "A Share located on another computer" Eg: //Machine2/Application1. The pubished web content is inside a shared folder on the remote machine. Finally when i run the application in browser(IE 7.0) i get the following error.
Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

We have built an ASP.NET application in 4.0 (we can change it to 3.5 if necessary) with a SQL Server database.
I am looking to create an installation package (exe or msi) so that I can provide this file to my clients and they can install it on all of their laptops. This asp.net application will be running on laptops that don't have access to the internet. Some of these laptops have XP Home, Win 7 Home, and other windows operating systems and not all of them have IIS installed. Is there some sort of simple application that I can use to create an Installer application where it will install IIS or some other web server, SQL Express, and .NET framework 4.0. If these applications are installed already, then it shouldn't install it.

I am having a silly beginners problem with ASP.Net/Visual Studio 2010. I would like to integrate a number of third party packages into my asp.net MVC app (e.g. CKEditor, TinyMCE.) During the prepwork I sooner or later end with instructions to the order of "copy the package into your project/scripts directory". Sounds easy but I still can't figure out how to do it.
For the time being I trick visual studio into adding the package by adding a blank directory, then go to windows exporer to copy files into the directory, then go back to visual studio to add them one by one. That works for a few javascripts but not for a more complex package. Clearly there must be a better way to add a third-party hierarchical structure to a project, right?

We have an old windows 2000 running IIS 5.0 on this server we have a few asp pages that use a connection to our SQL database.
This all works fine. But because we are going to deposal this server it has to move to a newer server running IIS 6.0.
I installed IIS and ASP and it looked ok, after that we moved over the webpages to the new server edited the web.config connecting to the new SQL database 2008 ( that's also moved )
But what I try I keep getting the same error, Page cannot be displayed.

Today I started playing with the web.config transforms in VS 2010. To begin with, I attempted the same hello world example that features in a lot of the blog posts on this topic - updating a connection string.
I created the minimal example shown below (and similar to the one found in this blog). The problem is that whenever I do a right-click -> "Publish", or a right-click -> "Build Deployment Package" on the .csproj file, I'm not getting the correct output. Rather than a transformed web.config, I'm getting no web.config, and instead the two transform files are included.
What am I doing wrong?

i need an intaller program that allows me to write code(c# or vb.net) to be executed during the installation. the reason is that i want to check if the current account does have writing permission or not. if she is not then the installation should get aborted. also the installer should create a default uninstaller.
if you specify many it would be great so i can look for them in the market since not every software available here.

I am trying to automate our build/deployment process.
So far I am using:
a Visual Studio 2010 solution with a main Web Application project (and dependent projects)
MSBuild
MSDeploy
CruiseControl.Net
So after much wrangling and gnashing of teeth, I now have CCNet kicking off an MSBuild script to build, package and deploy the website. The MSBuild script is below:

This all works fine as long as on the target machine there is already a website configured in IIS. This doesn't need to be an existing "real" site (it could just be a shell).

I have a web app and a web setup project in VS2010. By default, when I install my web app using my web setup project, in the Installation Address folder dialog window, the default Application Pool is DefaultAppPool. It has been stated in the MSDN documentation that we can change this default TARGETAPPPOOL, say to "ASP.NET V2.0". Here is the excerpt from MSDN... "The Application Pool list shows the available application pools on the target computer, and the default setting is named DefaultAppPool. To change the default application pool in your Web setup projects, you can use a post-build action to update the name of the application pool in the MSI." Is there anybody in the group knows the syntax on setting the TargetAppPool to another pool that exists in IIS, e.g., ASP.NET V4.0 CLASSIC?

I made Web Setp Project for a web application, I need to change virtual directory property for the web application.
This virtual directory is linked to TARGETVDIR property which is disabled in the property grid.But I need to control it, I searched for this and I found that the only way is to use orca.exe and change msi using it.
Can I amke another solution to avoid making modification on nsi after build???

am using a windows service created by me it works fine in debug mode.I have created a setup for installation of windows service and installed it on the same machine.For testing i am creating a notepad file in c:\temp123.txtIts working gr8 in debug mode but not working when installed using a set up . also i have used same set up on another machine.Its not working thr as well.What can be the reason.Note:- two weeks back i have checked it using installer on another machine it was working, but suddenly now its not working any where.

I have Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition- Version 3.5 SP1 (9.0.30729.1 SP).I've noticed when working through examples they show a window, Create Unit Test Project, but that this window never appears when I follow their steps.Do I need to go somewhere and check a box so the program will give me this window?Does this mean VS2008 didn't install correctly?

Recently I got a strange behavior, the website hangs and just doesn't reply unless I go to iis and restart either app pool or whole IIS - BUT what is the most strange thing is that in case I go to remote desktop of the server and try to access it locally it DOES work just fine. I read couple threads about deadlocking and hanging because of memory leaks and non closed sql connections BUT why it still does work from the local?In case there is something wrong with the code - why does it still work from locally?

I have an an intranet website running under IIS6 (under a specific port, not the default one) with a integrated windows authentication enabled and uses an application pool configured with a service account. the issue is, if I access the website using the server name with a fully qualified domain in the URL, it throws a login prompt (doesn't work even if enter my windows login credentials), but if I use the IP address of the server then it works fine. I need to do to get the URL with server name working.[URL]
