View 4 RepliesI have a new development machine running windows 7 professional 64 bit. On loading up a website project Im getting this error
'The Web Application Project 'websitename' is configured to use IIS. To access local IIS websites, you must install IIS components:
IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatibilty
ASP.net
Windows Authentication
In addition you must run Visual Studio in the context of an administrator account
As far as Im aware, I am an administrator of my own pc and I have the .net framework installed.
I have noticed two time-related problems with my website:
[1] Slowness of loading the graphics for each page in the browser;
[2] Receiving a "Runtime Error" page in the browser when I do take action on the site (e.g. navigate to another page) within approx. 30 seconds.
Are these problems related to limitations of my web host?
I've been developing a game using Silverlight 4 and silversprite (http://silversprite.codeplex.com/)
This game is HEAVILY content dependent, using a lot of audio and images. My content folder is around 90 mbs worth of stuff. And because of that, my XAP file is around 60 MB, and takes 5 minutes to download from the website before any user can start playing.
I am using Visual Web Developer 2010 to create my site and load the XAP. Is there a way where I can take content out of my XAP and put it in my ASP.net site project? Or perhaps upload my content files to the site's storage?
This would make my XAP file much quicker to download.
I want increasing my website pages loading speed
I know one of thing is compress css file is there other thing that I do to increasing webpage loading speed?
I have a master page in my website. I want some sort of container to load external website in my contentplaceholder.Frames and object tags are the tried options. My DOC type doesn't support Frames and object tag has that scroll border displayed by default and I can't remove it because it will be a page from another domain.
On the loaded site the users will be able to browse and search products, so I just dont want to read the html once. That will be the actual website loaded/displayed.
I am trying to create my own website management framework similar to DNN/SiteFinity (only a mucho cut down version).
One of the big (but common) features is to be able to dynamically add user controls to provide additional functionality.
I would prefer to use a pre-compiled .NET "Web Application" over a dynamically compiled "Website".
What are the implications of using LoadControl method to dynamically add a user control for a pre-compiled web applications with specific regard to:
Session (preume I am using the stateserver)What happens to all the other users - will they be logged out?
Application pool recycling due to changes to some compilation??
I am not sure I have ever dynamically added a user control to a pre-compiled web applications as I have mainly been using "Websites" so I am making a large presumption that it will work because if the website is pre-compiled, does this mean the dynamically added user control will be dynamically compiled as required even though the site is pre-compiled?
EDIT
I also forgot to mention that the user controls will be outside of the application directory and so won't be published during web deploy - they will be uploaded via another website.
I know you are all tired of this Linq-to-Sql questions, but I'm barely starting to use it (never used an ORM before) and I've already find some "ugly" things. I'm pretty used to ASP.NET Webforms old school developing, but I want to leave that behind and learn the new stuff (I've just started to read a ASP.NET MVC book and a .NET 3.5/4.0 one). So here's is one thing I didn't like and I couldn't find a good alternative to it.
In most examples of editing a LINQ object I've seen the object is loaded (hitting the db) at first to fill the current values on the form page. Then, the user modify some fields and when the "Save" button is clicked, the object is loaded for second time and then updated. Here's a simplified example of ScottGu NerdDinner site.
//
// GET: /Dinners/Edit/5
[Authorize]
public ActionResult Edit(int id) {
Dinner dinner = dinnerRepository.GetDinner(id);
return View(new DinnerFormViewModel(dinner));
}
//
// POST: /Dinners/Edit/5
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post), Authorize]
public ActionResult Edit(int id, FormCollection collection) {
Dinner dinner = dinnerRepository.GetDinner(id);
UpdateModel(dinner);
dinnerRepository.Save();
return RedirectToAction("Details", new { id=dinner.DinnerID });
}
As you can see the dinner object is loaded two times for every modification. Unless I'm missing something about LINQ to SQL caching the last queried objects or something like that I don't like getting it twice when it should be retrieved only one time, modified and then comitted back to the database. So again, am I really missing something? Or is it really hitting the database twice (in the example above it won't harm, but there could be cases that getting an object or set of objects could be heavy stuff).
have a website with MasterPages, on load master page has many database roundtrips and logics implemented.Now, if move to one page to another, the MasterPage get reloaded and all the above mentioned procedures processed again, which again takes a lot of time and as a result my website's response is very slow.For eaxmple, once the default page is loaded, all the child pages can load within the centent area (in ajax style).
tell me some workaround to optimize the site so that it doesn't this procedures repetitively.
I've got this problem.I launched an ASP.NET website with the Umbraco CMS on an ISP.(Its just a very basic informative site. nothing special.)When I go want to visit the website however, the first pageload takes a lot of time, sometimes even up to 20 seconds. Of course this is ridiculous. Afterwards, I am able to navigate the site relatively quick.. So every first pageload is slow, then everything is OK, more or less.Does anybody have any idea what the problem could be? Would it be IIS? ASP.NET?
View 5 RepliesI am facing a strange issue with my website. If there is a longer inactive period (say a few hours) on my website, and when it is first opened after a longer period of inactivity, it takes almost 50 to 60 seconds to load 1st page. However, thenafter if you reload the indexpage or open any other pages, they are opening in a few seconds. This is trace information about opening my default page . (After 8 ours of innactivity)

I have update panel on the page to avoid postback and placed a dropdownlist control within that update panel. DrodownList is filled with Category names and also it's autopostback set to True.
Now whenever dropdownlist index change's on select, untill page loads complete data it should show mesage as "Loading.... in center and middle of the page and background should become bit transparent". And when page load completely with data then that background and message should get disappear.

I am working in ASP.NET using Masterpages, just wondering there is a a simple way of doing this using JQuery?
We have installed a web site written by others which is compiled with Visual Studio 2008 and hosted in Windows server 2008 R2.
The IIS connection timeout is set to 120 seconds. But for some pages, the first page loading fails with HTTP 404 error but sequential refresh can bring the page up. The same problem happens for some images which fail to load in web pages. We are not very sure it is network related issue or hosting issue.
1 new website attach with existing website..where attached website is behave as pluggable. and used anywhere in any website?
View 7 RepliesI've got an external site that's built in SharePoint 2007. the user of the site need to have an option to view the full site when accessed from a mobile device. I am thinking of just creating a button control to do this. The question is, what would be the best solution to do this?
View 1 RepliesMy client gave me this web solution, in it various projects, and the problematic project (for me) is the Web Site.
I've copied the code to test web server (2008) and installed VS 2008 so I could step through the code on the server due to some weirdness.
Anyhow, when I open the solution locally on my personal computer, it runs on Cassini [URL] because I'm not on a server OS. However, when I run the app on the web server, when I hit F5, it runs oh [URL].
When I'm running the code on the server, how do I point the web site to use Cassini?
I want design a page where the end user enters information on my page and related information is fetched from the another website on my web page.
For example: Capturing City and state name from USPS.com
End user Task : Enter zipcode and click button 'Fetch'
My page perform few task
1. opens usps site backend
2. Enters the zipcode
3. Captures city name and state as temporary value from the usps
4. Displays the same in labels present in my home page.
My host moved my website to a new server. The DNS configuration is correct but the website is still down and I'm getting this message
"unable to open website at www.aboutmecfs.org. Internal Server error"
I want to make a 2nd website and am using a copy of the site files from my 1st site built for me, I added them via FTP to the hosting company. I realise when I edit the new site via the CMS it is editing both sites plus when I try to change anything to the CSS file I get the following error -
C:inetpubvhosts*****mysite******httpdocsapp_themessiteStyleSheet.css
So my questions are what do I need to change to be able to deploy a new site with the files I have to make a new site?I also don't understand where the password is coming from, I can see the User ID comes from the database. in the Asp.net connection strings are the following:
site Data Source=sql7.hostinguk.net;Initial Catalog=***;User ID=***;Password=*** - Where is this password coming from?
membership Data Source=sql7.hostinguk.net;User ID=***;Password=***;persist security info=False;initial catalog=***;
I want to have a PHP login form on my website. When the user enters a username and password and clicks submit, they should be directed to a remote website logged in (therefore skipping the login form on the remote site).
As mentioned in the title, the remote site is built using ASP.NET.
I've tried to search for a solution this but really not finding.
I need to have a copy of all my pages, bin fold, data folder, etc stored in a folder in the root of project called installation.
Once I have copied the contents of my web site into the installation folder how can I tell the complie/run process to ignore that folder ?
I have a website which is developed using HTML. I have another asp.net application which is in different server. Now I have to design login block of my asp.net application in HTML website. That is user will login from HTML website but the validation of that user will be checked in asp.net application. So how to transfer my user name and password from HTML website to asp.net application.( Both are in different servers)
