View 1 RepliesWhile developing and ASP.NET application in C# or VB using Visual Studio 2005/2008/2010 (Not a problem in 2003), if I create a new method automatically by double-clicking on a control in the designer or picking the new method in the code editor dropdowns (VB only), the access modifier is always protected instead of private. This is annoying because my developers have to manually change the method to private every time.
View 2 RepliesWhat is the default access modifier for controls created on .aspx page. Private or something else?
View 3 RepliesWhat is internal access modifier? Where we are using the keyword? How should we use in our application?
View 3 RepliesI've been programming ASP.NET for a number of years and have got into the habit of using the public access modifier when writing event handlers for nested controls. e.g.
LinkButton ln = new LinkButton();
ln.Click += new EventHandler(LinkClick);
....
public void LinkClick(object sender, EventArgs e)
I think I started using public because I ran into errors when using other modifiers. Is this the correct one to use here? Does it depend whether you're writing a Page / UserControl / other?
Not sure why Access Modifier drop down is disabled for a Resource file.
View 1 Repliesrecommend a data access class / helper class for Access databases, similar to the sqlhelper class found in the (Data Access Application Block)?
View 6 RepliesI'd like to inherit all my controllers from a custom base class that I write myself. I can change the line every time I add a new controller, but it would be nicer if I could somewhere specify the default value that gets set there. That way I wouldn't need to worry about forgetting this, and other people who get added to the project later on would have an easier time.
View 3 RepliesI am trying to secure very mixed content that is located in an ASP.NET directory. For purposes of this question, it can be ~/MyApp/.
I want all of the content in the directory and its subdirectories restricted to authenticated users. The default.aspx page, though, should be accessible to everyone. This is the web.config in that directory:
[Code]....
Now if you are an unauthenticated user, everything works fine if you request [code]....
The problem occurs in that visitors do not always request "Default.aspx". We have a default document configured so that they get Default.aspx even if they just request "/MyApp". An authenticated user works fine, but an unauthenticated user is directed to the login page.
Now I know that essentially this happens because even though the request for "/MyApp/" will actually end up serving up "/MyApp/Default.aspx", the security system is only checking for "/MyApp/" since that is what I requested. That is then getting the default security for the directory.
How can you configure an exception to allow access when no particular file is requested in the directory??
Is there some dependency between DefaultDocumentModule and UrlAuthorizationModule? In this environment, the UrlAuthorizationModule has been removed and re-added in order to make sure it fires for non-managed requests. I would not expect that to change the order of execution, though, since UrlAuthorizationModule usually goes after DefaultDocument.
A workaround could be to set up the opposite security with the directory being open, and then trying to secure individual files. Because of the (changing) number of files, and extensions, etc, and the fact that you cannot use wildcards in a <location>, this is not really a workable solution for me.
Since we can access the private data member of base class in the derived class with the help of friend function. How can we do the same in C# asp.net? I mean whats the alternative of friend function in C# asp.net
View 2 RepliesI have a class (name PageBase) that is inhariting System .Web.UI .Page and all my .aspx page behind classes are inhariting this class. This way I have put some common things in PageBase class.
For showing errors I want to put showMessage funtion in PageBase as well so that I may have not put it in every page and it will easy to manage this way.
Probem is that how PageBase class will access a control which is in aspx page in its child class (child class of PageBase) .
I dont want to pass control as argument to function in parent class, is ther any other way ?
Suppose we declare and define the variable in one class let say FirstClass and we want to use that variable in another class let say SecondClass which is outside of FirstClass .how to do this?
View 2 RepliesI have created one class and use in default.aspx page working well. But when i add new aspx page and trying to call there i am getting error.
Code:
Parser Error Message: 'project1._Inquiry' is not allowed here because it does not extend class 'System.Web.UI.Page'.
Below code is from default.aspx header.
k Code:
<%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="project1._Default" %>
Below is the code of second file where error appear.
ss Code:
<%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="Inquiry.aspx.vb" Inherits="project1._Inquiry" %>
What am I doing wrong here?
Me("Label" & CStr(i)).Text = strURI.Substring(strURI.ToString().LastIndexOf("/") + 1) & ": " & intCount.ToString()
[Code]....
I get an error on Me; it indicates that it cannot be indexed because it has no default property
I've uppgraded to version 4 of framework and notice that menucontrol is now able to render as <ul><li>, witch is perfect. But I notice that it adds a style element and set class for each node.
renderd page html
[Code]....
Is there a way to remove this so I can set my own style?
I've tried setting the <pages pageBaseType="DynamicWebPage" /> value in web.config, but when I response.write out the page type, I'm still getting Microsoft.WebPages.WebPage.
I'm simply trying to sub-class WebPage and add some additional functionality such as a dynamic PageData dictionary similar to Phil Haack's dynamic ViewData dictionary.
Getting error when referencing a public method of Class1.cs (not in App_Code) in Default.aspx.cs.
View 5 Repliesam currently working on a web application, whereby I want to add code to the Application_BeginRequest method of the Global.asax file, without adding code to the Global.asax file, which sounds a little crazy, let me explain a bit more.If anyone has ever developed in sitecore before, they would have seen that the Global.asax file has empty methods, however it has 'using Sitecore;' and the global.asax file provided does not inherit from System.Web.HttpApplication.

I have web service with reference of BO library in same application. My BO contains classes with some private members and respective public properties.
All of these private members had default values in a perticular class say Contact.cs.Now when I consume this webservice into Windows Application, these already assinged values to BO does not persists in the Windows Application code.
Is there any limitation such that you can serialize the default values assosiated with private members ?
Even I have tried to assign these values directly to the properties in a constructor of Contact class.
What i am having trouble doing is set the current parameter to the current row at a specific column like e.row[column index]
For Each trow As TableRow In table.Rows
cmd1.CommandText = "dbo.directway"
cmd1.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmd1.Connection = conn [code]....
Class 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.TableRow' cannot be indexed because it has no default property.
I'm trying to get a custommembership to work and i have the following problem.
i get a error class 'system.data.datatable' cannot be indexed because it has no default propert.
Here's my function.
Public Overrides Function GetUserNameByEmail(ByVal userEmail As String) _
As String
Dim userName As String = ""
Try
Dim mymember As New Data.DataTable
[code].....
Is there a way to call a public function from a class?
[code]....
Is that possible? The reason why am doing this is because I need to parse that variable into a an JQuery function so I wanted JQuery to read that field. Can I Assign that value in base class or I have to do it within default.aspx pageload method?
