Visual Studio's Access Modifier Dropdown Option Is Disabled For Resource File
Jan 26, 2010Not sure why Access Modifier drop down is disabled for a Resource file.
View 1 RepliesNot sure why Access Modifier drop down is disabled for a Resource file.
View 1 RepliesWhile developing and ASP.NET application in C# or VB using Visual Studio 2005/2008/2010 (Not a problem in 2003), if I create a new method automatically by double-clicking on a control in the designer or picking the new method in the code editor dropdowns (VB only), the access modifier is always protected instead of private. This is annoying because my developers have to manually change the method to private every time.
View 2 RepliesI've added a key/value pair to an .resx file named SharedResources in my App_GobalResources directory.All the examples I've read on line have me trying to access the value as:
[Code]...
However, the intellisense is telling me that (Resources is not a member of '<Default>')
I've also tried this syntax, without the global
Dim MsgTemplate As String = Resources.SharedResources.EmailTemplate
I then get a message that (SharedResouces is not a member of Resources)
The intellisens is showing the following members for Resources
ResourceManger
ResourceReader
ResourceWriter
It should be compiling a global collection based upon the files in my App_GlobalResources directory from what I'm reading.However,I can't find anything to match what everythink on line says I should have available.
I have DotnetNuke loaded in Visual studio 2010. The 'use custom server' option under 'Start Options' is disabled. Why is it disabled?
What does 'Use Default Web server' default to? How do I change what the default is?
In earlier versions of VS i was able to switch between IIS and the internal web server (Cassini). Now it's more confusing in VS 2010!
Would the project type, Web Application Project vs Web Site project, affect the setting?
My objective is to include a JavaScript file in my Custom Server Control, because it's a bit tedious writing all the JS in C#. I've done a lot of searching and most resources seem to say that I need to add the file as an embedded resource, and access that. I found a few pages describing how to do this:
[URL]
They all seem to say I need to, after adding the JS file, change the build action to 'embedded resource' through its properties. However, the only properties I can actually see on the file are 'File Name' and 'File Path'. Right clicking the file in the solution explorer doesn't allow me access to properties, and right clicking (as one of those links suggests) anywhere else doesn't expose it either. I tried looking through VS Options but couldn't find anything, although I get the impression that I have something configured wrong that's not allowing me to see as many properties as I should be able to.
This question has probably been answered before, when adding a new web form, I do not see an option that allows you to place code in a seperate file for a project (it does it automatically). But for websites, I see the option. Am I missing some option?
View 1 RepliesI just recently upgrade my asp.net web project from visual studio 2005 to visual studio 2010. The upgrade was successful with no problems however im missing some features with this project. The One Click Publish feature(which is greyed out) in the header area of Visual Studio 2010 and the Add Config Transforms feature which is no where to be seen when you right click on web.config. When i create a new web project straight from visual studio 2010, these options work fine.
View 1 RepliesIm working on a website project with Visual Studio 2010 from 2 different computers (home & work).
In Dreamweaver Im used to FTP to upload/download files to/from a webserver to syncronice my files on the current computer Im working on.What is best option in Visual Studio 2010 to sync project files between home & work computers? I have seen there is a built in FTP, but seems only it can upload files, limited functionality?
I run the start debugging option...it runs successfully. but still is shows start debugging option is shown in the Visual studio 2005 IDE. And one more problem is ::I applied break points in one page and run the application. but those break points are not detected....
View 1 Repliesi installed Visual Studio 2010 Trial on Microsoft Site (install successfull)My Computer OS: Windows Server 2008 SP2I create WebApplication Project --> Default.aspx --> Design --> Toolbox --> Oh what ???? The Control ScriptManager is fail and UpdatePanel, ListView... too. :-S
View 3 Repliesi'm trying an example by trying to creating two projects in one solution to seperate logic and UI. so let's say test.logic and test.ui
in test.ui i have a page called lets say contact me. in the code behind for this page i want to call a method that belongs in a class called processData in test.logic
in contact me cs i tried something like:
namespace test.ui
{
using test.logic
//code here
}
but that does not work as class/method not shown in intellisense.
I have solution with several projects, while debugging it gives me this message.
I tired to change it's properties to enable debug but didn't work.
I have one dot net application giving me grief. The Start Arrow button is disabled. Also, the Debug --- Start option is disabled as is the Debug --- Start Without Debugging option. It runs fine from IIS and if I right click and view in browser. It is only this one appliction. I got a fresh version from VSS and no better.
<compilation defaultLanguage="vb" debug="true" />
We converted our web application project into website project..We had resources created in first project..after conversion the resources doenst seem to work..I get an error saying "Resources is not a member of My" ....So I have created a new resource file and tried to generate designer.vb file...I have tried using resgen but I get errors.. Is there any other way this can be done.
use visual web developer 2008 express eddition IDE but this IDE have new web site and new file only from the file menu and dont have new project option what is the problem of my IDE and what is deffrent between new web site and new project choice
View 1 RepliesMy VS 2008 IDE does not show "Debug" option in menu. Also F5 dosen't work and start button is disabled by default.
View 1 RepliesI do not see the debug xslt option in VS 2008 Express edition. We wanted to test the xsl with sample input xml files. Is it available there?
View 1 RepliesFor my *.resx files in App_GlobalResouces, what should the Build Action be? The defaults for creating a new resource file have Build Action as "Content", Copy to Output Directory as "Do not copy", and Custom Tool as "GlobalResourceProxyGenerator".
On certain servers I get an runtime error: "CS0101: The namespace 'Resources' already contains a definition..." that points to a "temporary asp.net files" folder. This makes me think that maybe I should be embedding these files so I don't have to worry about this duplicate registration. Or is my error the only real problem and keeping the physical files in the App_GlobalResouces section is fine?
I'll be debugging a site in Visual Studio 2010 and editing an *.aspx or *.ascx file, and without warning, it will lock up so that I can't edit it. There's no message or anything, I just can't type or make any changes. The only way to start editing again is to stop debugging, close the editing window, and then find whatever file I was working on and reopen it. It's a huge pain in the you-know-what. My colleagues are experiencing the same thing, so it's apparently not something with my particular setup. What's the explanation, and how can we make it stop?
Note 1: I've reported this to Microsoft here. If you've experienced this as well, please go there and vote up the bug report.
Note 2: This is not VSS-related, at least in my case. We use VisualSVN, which doesn't use file-system-level locking to mark files as checked out.
I know this is a simple question. How do I activate the toolbar with the Wesite option? For example, I want to select Website -> Add New Item.
View 1 RepliesI initially installed Visual Studio 2008 Developer edition. I then installed Visual Studio 2008 Suite edition, with 2008 Developer edition still on the PC. When attempting to create a new Web Test, this option is not available to select when adding a new test in the solution.
The steps I followed:
1) Create new Project: Test Project
2) Add "New Test"
3) At this point I would expect "Web Test" to be an option, I only have Ordered Test, Unit Test, and Unit Test Wizard.
Do I need to uninstall Visual Studio 2008 and start with a clean Visual Studio 2008 Suite to get the "Web Test" option to show?
I'm trying to reference a color value, which is stored in a file called Rsource.resx in the App_GlobalResources directory.
In vs 2008, I used to be able to use a line like this:
[Code]....
Now, in VS 2010, that no longer works.
I found a VS 2010 example that suggests I could try
[Code]....
or
<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server"
Text="test", BackColor="Resources.Webresources.sunlight",Visible="false"></asp:Label>
These examples both generate an error that the server tag is not well formed. I'm fairly new to this, so I think my error will be obvious to someone...
What would be the correct way to reference the color value in this case?
What is internal access modifier? Where we are using the keyword? How should we use in our application?
View 3 RepliesI'm having trouble understanding when the site is considered "pre-compiled". As I understand what I've read, if I use the Publish or Build Deployment Package options from within Visual Studio then it is pre-compiling, but if I just use something like xcopy, then it is not pre-compiled.
View 2 RepliesI have a dynamic dropdown that is populated from sql. The user is supposed to select an option from the dropdown, then click a search button on the form to return some results based on that selection. It works fine if the dropdown gets populated with more than one record. However, if only one record is returned, that one record can't be selected. Whether you select it or just leave it alone since it's the only one, when you click the form button (search button), no results are returned b/c the dropdown selection must not be actually selected.
I've included the relevant code below. First the DDL, then the datasource, and finally the C# code in the if (!Page.IsPostBack)
[Code]....
