Is it possible to configure an ASP.Net app to use AppFabric Caching for session state with IIS Express?
I have Visual Studio 2008 installed on this workstation with SQL 2000, 2005 Express, 2008 Express and I think 2008 R2 (not sure if that is a version itselve or not)
I will call that workstation HOME
I created some tables in SQLEXPRESS through VS2008.
I worked on this project on another workstation that I just installed VS2008 annd SQLEXPRESS 2008 and I know that was R2
Installed Visual Studio 2010 trial edition between the thiem I made the tables on HOME and tonight for the first time since that install
I am now getting the "cannot be opened becuase it is version Version 661. This Server supports version 655..."
What to do now?
I can opened SQLExpress 2008 management studio and it is running.
So is my SQL 2000. The problem seems to be that after the VS2010 install neither VS2008 or VS2010 can connect to the SQLExpress 2008
What do I do now?
I can't remove sql 2000 because it is tied to several 3+ gig databases that will not work in Express.
in my web appliaction there are many pages which use data from backend . and all these pages run according user login in application.every user gat different data according data availability for particular user .And data is not static for user in database it can be update ,delete,and may be new data inserted for user, frequently . in this case roundtrip for data on sql serverv increased and it cause of load on sql server. in this csae i want to implement caching on my pages. But I am not able to do this because i have no idea about how implement caching on the basis of particular user data .
View 10 RepliesThere seems to be very limited information floating around the net about this .I'm running the AcmBrowser.exe to integrate AD FS 2.0 with AppFabric (ACS), yet the authentication service as default tries to point to accesscontrol.windows.net, which is an unaccessible domain and the AppFabric labs resolve to accesscontrol.appfabriclabs.com - so is this a case of the AcmBrowser not being updated by Microsoft?
I've changed the URL in the AcmBrowser code and run the program, in which now comes back as invalid token issuer - when I've taken the management key directly from the ACS (Administration -> Management service -> Management client -> Symmetric Key?).
Is there anyone out there that's facesd this issue before? I believe it's the last step I need to take of syncing my AD FS 2.0 with ACS + Relying Party.
I have been spending a better part of a week trying to track down why I am not able to clear all session variables in a web app (vs 2010, vb.net). What I have tracked it down to is that when I remove or abandon sessions that my html pages or codebehind access, it works, but for some reason in any of my class files where I use "Public Shared strConnection as String = HttpContext.Current.Session("strConnection").ToString" to access a session variable, it finds the old one and not the current one. I have to wait for it to time out, go in again, and it will find the new one.
I do not use Linq, and there is only one place in the whole web app that I place the connection string in a variable whcih is when a person logs in. It points them to the correct database. The sqlconnection is set for all of my listviews in Page_Init to make sure that they aren't using any session variable that they create on their own. Interestingly enough that if I use debug to go in each time, exit debug, enter debug again trying to access a different database, it works correct each time. I assume that debug is correctly killing the session variable for the classes for me.
I am using SQL Server 2008 express and in company enterprise al with sp1 and i want to import .mdf and i get this error: .mdf version is 661, your db supports the version 655.Which version is 661 and how to import it in sql Server 2008.
View 3 RepliesI've currently got Windows Azure AppFabric system set up and running with my own registered Namespace, in which uses the Google/Yahoo/Windows Live STS providers. That all works fine, I can use them and login to my application. Easy.
However, I can't find anything in any way useful on the web that related to adding my own STS to this list from a 3rd party supplier. I've read that it's possible, and it's the last hurdle I'm stuck on here - replacing the Google/Yahoo/Windows Live STS with the ones I need my application to authenticate with. I cannot find anywhere in the STS control panel to allow for this (AppFabric Labs).
I have a page with a number of user controls, In one of my user controls I have a button event. I turn on output cache for the user control that has the button and vary by control using the ID property of a hidden field control in the user control. whenever I turn on the output cache my button event doesn't fire.

I have upgraded our system from .NET 1.1 to .NET 4.0. I also had to update the ASP Session State database to version 2 by running the following command in the command window.
aspnet_regsql.exe -S localhostSQL2005 -d ASPState -ssadd -sstype c -E
Is there any way that I can configure the MSI setup project to check the ASP.NET Session State and install version 2 if needed?

Since I don't want my sessions to be removed unless the session has been abandoned either via code or Session Timeout...For eviction, I would think "None" and for expireable, I would think False.I have tested and calling Session.Abandon does remove the object from the cache. I have also tested to see if by extending my session, the session object in cache is also extended. This does seem to work the "correct" way.
I have an issue with the object datasouce caching. Users are seeing other peoples cached records when they click next on the grid. It looks as though the caching is shared among users. Bascially when the user get to the screen they have date filters so they can further filter down the records. If another user it in at the same time and the first user hits next they get the second users filtered records.

View 5 RepliesI've begun building a bit of a framework that I wouldnt mind working with. The idea is to create a framework that makes it even easier to create CMS addons (So basically a CMS framework).
One of my goals with this project, was having all modules made within the framework automatically support version without any extra coding.
More to the point, the way that I started building this, many pieces (Lots had to do with the versioning system) became interlinked. A version Object in the code related directly to a Module Object and vice versa, therefore the class definitions for each relate to eac otherh. (So having only the Module object, i could access the versioning object and all of its properties). My issue with this is of course what happens if i have both the module and versioning objects in my code simoultaneously, resulting in having not just duplicates of the data within the code, but (perhaps) infinite amounts, killing the app.
So what im wondering is, what if my modules properties where stored within the cache? Ie if i had the Module object, and it had the property ID -- Then the data for ID would be stored in the cache within the module object. Referencing the value simply retrieves the value from the cache if it exists there, and the SQL database if it doesnt. This way, all instances of the module that may be running at the same time will have access to the same information, at the same time, and hopefully causing it to use less space in total.
I would then add a function, so that if a developer was loading a rarely used module, or dident want to occupy cache space with large amounts of data, then they could just call a Dispose function that would remove the data from the cache.
Does this method sound reasonable? I know this probably isnt what the cache is designed for -- but I cant think of any other way to do this without having an infinite loop of objects referring to each other, or causing huge discrepencies from having different instances of objects referencing values that should be the same, but arent because they are technically different instances.

Currently I have my data cached in Datasets in a static class. I was talking to my cousin's husband, who works as a C# developer for our local Telecom company.
Basically, I'm pretty new to ASP.NET and although to me having cached data in a static class makes sense to me, when I talked to him about it, he said there might be a problem when the site goes live, as on a web server more than one instance of the class may be created.
He did say this was a theory, and it was an area he didn't know an awful lot about, so I thought I'd ask some of you ASP.NET gurus to see if what I've done is totally wrong or not.

View 2 RepliesI have a List (Table) of Data that I display in a Grid View. For now lets just assume I have a List<CustomObject> cList that I give to my GridView.DataSource(). I have a AJAX call (from a DropDown on the Page) that enables me to filter the Data in the GridView. This works. For now, I re-fetch the data from the DB, and filter it.I am wondering if there is a more efficient way of doing this i.e. to save the data the first time I get it, and then display a filtered list of that data when requested. I attempted to save the data as private variable on the Page, but it seems that Page gets recreated for the AJAX call. My attempt looks like:
