C# - Web Control Added In .master Control Type Not Found In Child Page?

Jun 7, 2010

I have a Web Site project, and within it I have a user Web Control defined in an ascx file.The control is added to the Site.Master, and it shows up correctly on the page and everything is fine.I need to override some of the control's fields on one of the pages that derive from Site.Master.

// In OnLoad:
MyControlName control = (MyControlName) Page.Master.GetBaseMasterPage().FindControl("controlID"));

The issue is that MyControlName doesn't register as a valid Type on the child page. If I add a second instance of the control to the child page directly, the above works as needed, but if the control isn't placed directly on the page, and instead is only defined in the master page, the type is undefined. The control is not in a namespace, and is defined within the project, so I don't know why it is having such an issue location the appropriate type.If I put a breakpoint in the OnLoad, the type listed for the control is ASP.my_control_name_ascx, but using that does not work either. Why can't the child class reference the correct type? Can I fix this?

UserControl - Accessing A Child Control In The Parent Page?

Nov 3, 2010

If for example my userControl has a CheckBox called IsGreatCoder and the userControl is embedded in a main page (parent page).

I normally have gained access to the IsGreatCoder.Checked value in the main-page by exposing it through a public property that I have to manually write (say "IsAGreatCoder").

If UserControl is included in the main page as "userControl1", then I would access it as "userControl1.IsAGreatCoder".

But, I was wondering if there was anyway to declare the UserControl such that all the UI controls added to it were declared as being public, that way allowing me to gain access to the actual controls in the main page (the parent).

Essentially I would like to be able do something like userControl1.IsGreatCoder.Checked instead of having to implement a property.

The reason I want to do this is that I want to have access to many more of the check-box's properties and it would be a pain to implement each one as a public property.

C# - Settings Properties Of A Child In A Composite Control In An .aspx Page

Feb 28, 2011

I've got a composite control (class) that exposes an asp:Label through a get-property. Is is possible to set the Text property of the Label through aspx-code?

I'd like to do something like this:
<cfw:MyCompositeControl runat="server" Label.Text="Test" />

One solution is adding each property to the composite class (like a public LabelText), but I'd like to set any property of any child control. So as new features of child controls become available, I'd like to be able to use them on my composite control. So basically I would like to set any property of the exposed child control.

C# - Add Child Nodes To Custom User Control Derived From System.Web.UI.Control?

Sep 4, 2010

I would like to know how to add some additional child nodes to a custom user control class derived from System.Web.UI.Control. For example currently I have a control that contains no child nodes and on the design surface looks like the following.

<cust:MyCustomControl id="ctlMyCustomControl" runat="server" attribute1="somevalue" attribute2="somevalue" ></MyCustomControl>

What I am looking for is to have the ability to add n number of child nodes to this control from the design surface and then access their values from the code. So adding to the control stated above.

<cust:MyCustomControl id="ctlMyCustomControl" runat="server" attribute1="somevalue" attribute2="somevalue" >
<childnode1>value1</childnode1>
<childnode2>value2</childnode2>
</MyCustomControl>

It is not clear to me how to access the child nodes.

Web Forms :: Adding An ImageButton To The ImageMap Control As A Child Control

Mar 24, 2011

Adding an ImageButton to the ImageMap control as a child control. I am developing a map that will be contained some user-defined nodes. The user can click anywhere of the map to add the node to that location. X locations and Y Locations are stored in the database. Initializing the page all stored nodes will be created programmatically. My problem is that the created nodes are invisible. If I replace the ImageMap with a panel control then all dynamically created nodes will be visible but in this situation I cannot capture the X and Y locations.

protected System.Web.UI.WebControls.ImageButton
btn;
protected void Page_Load(object sender,
EventArgs e)
{
btn.ImageUrl = "Images/..."
}
override protected
void OnInit(EventArgs e)
{
btn = new ImageButton();
btn.ID = "btn1";
btn.Style["Position"] =
"Absolute";
btn.Style["Top"] =
"100px";
btn.Style["Left"] =
"100px";
ImageMap1.Controls.Add(btn);//... invisible nodes
// Panel1.Controls.Add(btn);//... visible nodes
base.OnInit(e);
}

So I have one of the following problems:

1. Adding child to the ImageMap Control OR

2. Capturing the mouse X and Y Locations in the panel

C# - Add Reference To Method In Custom Control To A Child Control Created In That Same Custom Control

Feb 3, 2010

I have a custom control that is based off the gridview control located at: here The control is basically a gridview that automatically creates a column of checkboxes that can be used to "check" individual rows in the gridview. During the gridview's "CreateColumns" event, the "checkboxcolumn" is created dynamically. The checkboxcolumn also contains another checkbox in the header that is used to "select/deselect all" checkboxes in the column. Since the gridview does not automatically remember the state of the checkboxes in the checkboxcolumn on postback, I added a method to the control called "SaveCheckBoxState" which stores the indexes of the checked rows in Viewstate, and then I modified the "OnRowDataBound" event to check the Viewstate and reset the checkboxes based on the Viewstate.

I then added a call to "SaveCheckBoxState" in the gridview's OnSorting and OnPageIndexChanging events. This works great so long as I'm sorting or changing pages. However, I need it to update the viewstate everytime someone clicks or unclicks one of the checkboxes. At this time, the checkboxes are rendered with an onclick event that calls some javascript to highlight the row, or in the case of the checkbox in the header, to select/deselect all checkboxes. I need to call the "SaveCheckBoxState" method from the javascript used by the customcontrol, or I need to find a way to modify viewstate from javascript and perform the same action as "SaveCheckBoxState".

I've tried adding the "SaveCheckBoxState" to the onclick event declaration in the checkboxes, but when run, it simply tells me that the method is undefined. It doesn't exist in the parent page, and I don't think I should have to make an event for the parent page to pass the click to. It seems to me this should be all self contained within the custom control. Does anyone know how I can acheive this? Here is the code for the gridview OnPreRender event where the onclick event of the checkbox is set:

protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e)
{
// Do as usual
base.OnPreRender(e);
// Adjust each data row
foreach (GridViewRow r in Rows)
{
// Get the appropriate style object for the row
TableItemStyle style = GetRowStyleFromState(r.RowState);
// Retrieve the reference to the checkbox
CheckBox cb = (CheckBox)r.FindControl(InputCheckBoxField.CheckBoxID);
// Build the ID of the checkbox in the header
string headerCheckBoxID = String.Format(CheckBoxColumHeaderID, ClientID);
// Add script code to enable selection
cb.Attributes["onclick"] = String.Format("ApplyStyle(this, '{0}', '{1}', '{2}')",
SelectedRowStyle.CssClass,
style.CssClass,
headerCheckBoxID);
// Update the style of the checkbox if checked
if (cb.Checked)
{
r.BackColor = SelectedRowStyle.BackColor;
r.ForeColor = SelectedRowStyle.ForeColor;
r.Font.Bold = SelectedRowStyle.Font.Bold;
}
else
{
r.BackColor = style.BackColor;
r.ForeColor = style.ForeColor;
r.Font.Bold = style.Font.Bold;
}
}
}

I want to counter this by having the error shown on a div within my master page.
