Access The Current Record In An Asp:Repeater?
Nov 9, 2010
Suppose I have an asp:Repeater that I am using to display a list of names and phone numbers.
<asp:Repeater runat="server">
<ItemTemplate>
<p><%# Eval("name") %></p>
<p><%# Eval("phoneNumber") %></p>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
Now, let's make it more fun. Let's suppose that there is one or more phone number per name. I feel like I could use a repeater within a repeater to repeat the phone numbers. I could also use a for loop in my asp code. However, the Eval function is the only way I know of to access the current record at runtime and Eval only returns a string and only runs in <%# Eval("X") %>. How can I get the list of phone numbers that is a member of the current record?

I have a static class with serveral static methods. In these methods, I'm trying to access the current thread's context using HttpContext.Current. For example:
var userName = HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name;
However, when I do that, I receive a NullReferenceException, the infamous "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

I am using a repater whose item template is having a dropdownlist. Now i want to access that dropdownlist from a button click event. Here is the code iam using :
protected void btn1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
foreach (RepeaterItem item in rptWord.Items)
{
DropDownList ddl1 = (System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList)rptWord.FindControl("ddlWord");
}
}
But m getting ddl1 as null. For this i created a function which is as follows:
public void myFunction(object sender, RepeaterItemEventArgs e)
{
foreach (RepeaterItem item in rptWord.Items)
{
DropDownList la = (System.Web.UI.WebControls.DropDownList)e.Item.FindControl("ddlWord");
}
}
using this function iam able to access the repeater but i guess its not possible to call this function on button click event .

lets say I want to make a label of repeater1 visible in repater2's ItemCommand() method..
e.Item.FindControl("rpt1Label").Visible=True;
is not working..how else do you do it ?
[EDIT]
changed that to repeater1.FindControl("rpt1Label").Visible=True;
This is throwing object reference null exception

I have my code output a gridview with all the data with an option to select records. I'm trying to make a code which would allow me to select a record, and then print this record using a specific Report stored in MS Access.
I've located the code to print the Report it self, but it prints ether all the records or a range.

I have a question on a simple application - menu's which contain 0...x recipies. I have a formview, and in the formview I have a dropdownlist. The query that populates the dropdownlist depends on the formview's current record ID, how do I get that to put into my data source?
Note that I would prefer not to use the RouteParameter that gives the Formview it's ID as the RouteParameter doesn't use the formview's primary key as I'm using the menu name instead
My code is:
[Code]....
<asp:formview id="fvMenu" datakeynames="MenuID" datasourceid="dsMenu" runat="server">

I'm writing an update script that goes through each record and performs various updates, and I want the current record to display while it's processing.
For Each row As DataRow In DS.Tables(0).Rows
'Label Inside Ajax Panel
Label_Ajax.Text = row.Item("product_id").ToString
'Label Inside Ajax Update Progress Panel
Dim newlabel As Label = UpdateProgress1.FindControl("Label_AjaxProgress")
newlabel.Text = row.Item("product_id").ToString
' Tried straight to console, but doesn't work
Console.Write(row.Item("product_id").ToString)
Next
I've tried all three methods shown above, but they all end up displaying the last record after the iteration is complete. How can I get the current record to display on the screen during the iteration?

So I currently have a aspx page that shows details for any single staff member, and the page is setup with mostly ASP labels. I have a subroutine called "getstaffdata" that populates the page on load (via subroutine).
I would like to convert this to a page that shows details on one staff member, or many staff members, one after another. So I thought of using the repeater control, but I'm not sure how to convert the page over. The staff userids are passed via query string, but I'm just confused on how to do the datasource for the repeater control.

I want to return only the record or records from one table "tblUserInfo" to my details control where the records are related to the currently logged in user. I have a field in the "tblUserInfo" table named "UserName" that contains the value that is displayed as the current user name when the user logs in. My connections string is located in the WebConfig file and is being recogonized by VWD as being a connteciton string.
I have the following Select statement defined and also tried to set the parameter value to pass to the select statement. Obviously I missed something:

I have an aspx page containing a number of asp:Repeater Controls.Im not using the default code-behind file that is generated, ive changed this to file in a different folder.In the code-behind, i populate the repeater controls, all was workign fine until i added another repeater control to the aspx page.In the code-behind, the intellisense picks up this control and i can access its methods and properties to set the datasource and bind the data. However, when i go to build the project, i get an error "The name Repeater1 does not exist in the current context"Firstly, all the other repeater controls, declared in exactly the same way, do not throw throw this error.Secondly, yes the repeater does have a runat="server" tag.Thirdly, It is not inside any other controls.I have tried various different methods of accessing this repater instead of just "Repeater1." but each returns null:
Repeater r1 = (Repeater)Page.FindControl("Repeater1") ;
Repeater r1 = (Repeater)Page.Master.FindControl("Repeater1");
Repeater r1 = (Repeater)Master.FindControl("Repeater1") ;
Ive no idea why this "doesnt exist in the current context" as all the other controls on this page do, even if i create a literal i get the same problem.

Initially I display all the records in the gridview. Then based on the search I fetch certain records and display it.. When I try to edit any retrieved record, the control automatically tries to edit the first record instead of editing the selected record.. What should I change in the code to make it work?
Here is the code behind

There is a similar instance of this @ http://forums.asp.net/p/1380776/2919093.aspx#2919093 However I haven't had a response, maybe due to the age of the topic, but the problem is different in the sense I am not using AJAX Rating Control, I am using radio buttons contained in a Div named Ratings, which is picked up by jQuery to style to radio buttons accordingly.The output is that it will put the stars on the first record but anything after just shows origionalunstyled radio buttons.Just thinking off the top of my head, but does anything need to be put in the ItemDataBound event?The jQuery for the stars etc were attained from the link below:http://orkans-tmp.22web.net/star_rating/index.html#demos=&main-menu=0&demo-tabs=3Here is my code:.ASPX:

I've got a sp as below:
The functionality I want to achieve is that when isHomePageFeatured is checked then this record is set to 1 for that column and for all the other records in the table it is set to 0.
This is fine for update as I can use the property Id to compare against, but for the newly inserted record it doesn't yet have a propertyId so I wondered if using newID() to affect all other records would have the same affect.

I am querying the SQL database table and returning the result on the webform with a repeater, but I need to display one record at a time and refresh with an update panel and timer to iterate through the rows of the table one at a time at a fixed interval.
Is there another solution to be able to display one record at a time using c# in the webform, but then cycke through the other records one at a time using a timer control and updatepanel?

I have a search page. If a user enter something into title textbox and search let say it display 15 records.
If click the title of each records, it goes to DetailsPage.aspx.
What I want here is: If user click the title details of a record and leave that search page, I want to put there(On Details.aspx) Previous/Next button arrow so that the user does not need to browse back and see the search results and go to next details.
Note: I am passing ID into querystring when go search page to details page.
How to keep remembering IDs on details page of searched records on search.aspx ?? Use session or something different ? How can I do this ?

During Application_End() in Global.aspx, HttpContext.Current is null. I still want to be able to access cache - it's in memory, so want to see if I can reference it somehow to save bits to disk.
Question - is there a way to reference cache in memory somehow when HttpContext.Current is null?
Perhaps I could create a global static variable that would store pointer to cache that I could update on HTTP requests (pseudo: "static <pointer X>" = HttpRequest.Current) and retrieve a reference to cache through that pointer in Application_End()?
Is there a better way to access Cache in memory when there is no Http Request is made?

I have a gridview and a detailsview in a page. when the "current record" (the cursor) is pacing along the gridview, the detailsview, which has the same datasource with the gridview, should keep the pace with the gridview.
