I've put together some jQuery AJAX code using some tutorials I found on the internet. I'm new to jQuery and want to learn how to do things betters. I have a coworker who put together a beautiful web application using a lot of jQuery.The thing I'm most confused about here is: why is it necessary to use the ".d" when referring to the response of my web method and what does it stand for?

View 7 RepliesI have a page that enables a person to post a message from a message box; when the person submits the message I use the httpRequest object to send that message data to a webservice where I store the message in my database, then the webservice method is sending back a table with a text field (html textarea right now) and some html buttons formatted in a table (all in a single string) back to the original page so that other users can comment on the post submitted by the original user (in this case the original poster would be commenting on his/her own original post; possibly more then once).When I send the Html back to the original page I can't seem to get those new HTML objects to connect with the Jquery formats/actions. I tried sending the Jquery back with the HTML as well with no luck.How do I get the new html objects to connect with the Jquery script?
View 2 Repliesdoes it reload the entire page or does it have the intelligence to only send the necessary js to update the needed parts of the page that have changed? if it does the latter that would be a god send, however im probably being dreamful. it probably returns the entire view without any regard, right? edit: answer seems to be no, everything is returned.
edit added: do you think it would be difficult to write a framework where mvc compares last html it output to the current html we want to output, and instead of sending the entire html, figure out what has changed and generate js code that will do the updating as compared to previous html? (presuming nothing was manually changed on the client using js)... maybe an idea for a codeplex project? or maybe something like this exists?

I know how to call a simple old fashion asmx webservice webthod that returns a single value as a function return result. But what if I want to return multiple output params? My current approach is to separate the params by a dividing character and parse them on teh client. Is there a better way.

I mean, if I send a query to my database and it returns 1 column, then bind that column to the first column in the gridview, then send another query and bind the resulting column from that query to the second column without erasing the data of the first column etc etc.
I have a asp.net page that has several SqlDataSources defined that feed data into some graphs. The problem is that the graph product does not handle "no data" very well, and throws an error. I'd like this to handle the situation more gracefully-- so I need to check whether the SqlDataSource returned data or now before rendering the graph (and if not, just post a message saying "No Data" or something).
Is there an easy way to check if the data source returned data, and do this if/then without a bunch of code behind?
in .net 4.0 c# I am trying to figure out how to get all the Tags.TagName for a given product
First I get the Tag by the TagId they select, then I do another select on the Products table and join ProductTags to find any product that is using the specified tag.
Now I have to get all the tags associated with each returned product from the previous list.

I am using a nested listview to display a seperate grid for each group of data returned from my db query. To get this working, I have adapted a piece of code to group the data prior to it being bound:

This works as I want it to however some of the fields within the nested table need to be formatted as currency so I am trying to use Eval and {0:c} to do this however the moment I use Eval, the data items cannot be found

I can't find the answer anywhere, and the particulars are driving me crazy. I've been tasked with updating an older application, using only javascript for client UI stuff. Reports used to be generated using PDF templates and manually looping through datasets and basically doing a form fill, then displaying the report. This has crashed the server many, many times. I've since updated the app to use a report server, to help bring that report generation load offline. Every works fine, except that the animated GIF will not stop after the report returns. I use :

Which works beautifully. On the server side, I have something like this:

Where data is the byte stream return by the report server. The only thing that is not working is that the animated GIF will continue to play even after the report is delivered and the user clicks on the open/save/cancel dialog. I suspected it was the Response.End(); call, but even eliminating the line and letting the server to continue to run does not alleviate this problem. It seems that the page is NOT performing any postback after the report data is received, and the .html source is obviously showing the GIF. If I manually postback, I lose the open/save/cancel dialog, and the user has no opportunity to display the content.
I'm trying to use a variable returned from the database as an integer. My thought is to use a Link button and when my user clicks it, it should open a new window. However, its giving me an error stating the value is in the wrong format. Here is my link button code.
