Authorize The Account To Access Some Folders In Project?
Jul 17, 2010
I want to authorize the asp.net account to access some folders in my project.
However, I get this error::
System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'D:ProgramingPartFromYamnWebExerciseWebExerciseAccordionImgs' is denied.
I am using win 7 so what is the name of the asp.net account that I should use?

Often, out of sheer desperation I will end up enabling "Everyone" access on a folder that a web app is accessing (perhaps for file creation, reading, etc) because I can't figure which user account to enable access on.
Obviously, this is a very bad thing to do. Is there a way to determine what account IIS is using at that exact moment to access folders (and perhaps other resources like SQL Server, etc)?
Are there logs I can look at that will tell me? Or perhaps some other way? I usually use Windows Auth without impersonation. Not sure if that information is relevant.

I have configured forms authentication for my MVC 3 RTM application. I updated the configuration to the following and set the autoFormsAuthentication per the Gu and StackOverflow to false. However, when my application is deployed to my web server (W2k3 Standard SP2, II6) the controllers marked with [Authorize] are always redirected to /Account/LogOn instead of the configured value.

I have a website with the below structure for saving product images:

I want to restrict access to each {user_id} folder and let only the specific user to retrieve that image. How this can be done? Do I have to set something in IIS?

"My application (ASP.NET) writes certain files in folders on my servers. In IIS 6.0 I used to give write access to IUSR account so that IIS can write to the folder. Now what I see is my application pool runs under App Pool Identity account. That is good but users are able to create files in the folders without App Pool Identity user being given specific permission to do so.

Listing folders in folders then creating arrays in JS for each of the folders?
Directory Structure:
I have a directory structure as follows;
ad_folder
--folderA
--folderB
--folderC
--anotherFolder
--etcfolder
--afile.aspx
--anotherfile.gif
ad_code
--folderA
--folderB
--afile.aspx
--anotherfile.gif
ad_prep
--folderA
--etcfolder
--afile.aspx
--anotherfile.gif
ad_bin
--etcfolder
--afile.aspx
--anotherfile.gif
other Folder
files folder
assetsfolder
index.aspx
web.config
image.gif
Task at hand:
I want code in VB.NET to create javascript arrays of the folder contents that can then be used on the client end. I only need arrays for all folders contained in folders starting with ad_ and an array for all the base folders . like so:
var folders=["ad_folder","ad_code","ad_prep","ad_bin"];
var ad_folder=["folderA","folderB","folderC","anotherFolder","etcfolder"];
var ad_code=["folderA","folderB"];
var ad_prep=["folderA","etcfolder"];
var ad_bin=["etcfolder"];
note that I do not know the number of or the names of the folders, they can be different in different cases, I only have the root path.

I have a web app were every user has its own folder so that they can store documents. What i would like to do is protect a user's folder so that only the owner can access it.
Example:
Username: ricky
Folder: ~/Files/ricky/ --> Ricky can access his folder but can't access Diana's
Username: diana
Folder: ~/Files/diana/ --> Diana can access her folder but can't access Ricky's
I'm using membership provider for the user authentication.

I have a few computers (with Vista Business OS) connected in a private network. A C#.NET application running on one computer is currently able to access the network shared folders without problems. However, I am trying to get an ASP.NET application on that computer to access the same folders but I am getting "Access denied" errors. I added NETWORK SERVICE to all the shared folders' security (with full control) but it still gives the same errors.

I am developing an asp.net web application. I have to access one of the image in images folder in root directory. I am using following code in my code behind file.
string imageDirectory = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/images/");
string imageUrl = imageDirectory + "/img1.bmp";
This works fine in my local machine. My question is does this code work when I move my application to production ?

I'm using user membership and roles. Below is my web.config for subfolder restriction.
[Code]....
The way I have above, no one can access this folder, mySub, except Administrators, Editors, and Members. However, here's what I want. I want to allow all and any user to the default.aspx page of this mySub folder and denied any other pages if they're not Administrators, Editors, and Members. One last thing, also denied access to addWord.aspx if they're not Administrators and Editors. I know I can list all the pages and give them various permission but I do not want to list all the pages. What's the best and easist way to accomplish this?

M:PDF-ImagesList-PDF45404539532.pdf
4539533.pdf

How to access to the folder drive by using VB.NET or C# in the code-behind (securely: with username and password) for the users to be able to view images on the popup window?
See the code :
Protected Sub BtnServerDrive_Click(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles BtnServerDrive.Click
Dim PartNumber As String = txtPartNumber.Text.Trim()
'Calculate the folder 4540 like container
Dim NumContainer as string = txtPartNumber.Text.Trim()
NumContainer = (txtPartNumber.Text.Trim / 1000 + 1).toString.Split(".").First
[Code] ....
How to achieve this results to access to the server drive to get images for view by using VB.NET or C# in code-behind. Servermappath, UNC, or else?

I have seen this error many times in past and what all I used to do was to add aspnet account to the directory and provide it with read and write access. But this time I am trying to run an application in Windows 7(64 bits) - I had to manually enable the IIS from windows feature in Control Panel.
But I dont see any aspnet account in 'security' tab of any of the directories (in its properties). I even ran aspnet_regiis -i in v2.0.50727 and v4.030319 directories. How do I get aspnet user account to show up in any folder?

I run a simple .aspx website on a Windows Server 2008 machine.There is no impersonation, and System.Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name returns NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE, which it the account which the application pool runs.I tried to test the security of the application and server by removing file permissions to the .aspx files. I was greatly worried when the website continued to run without problem (it should not have been able to read the .aspx files).By turning on file level auditing, I discovered that the .aspx files were being read by the machine$ account (if the machine is called Serv1, then the files would be read by the Serv1$ account, which seems to have access to all files on the local machine).Is this a security breach or is this behaviour by design ?

First, I felt I had a clear understanding of how the Network Service account work. It is the default account ASP.Net runs under and has very limited access. I have verified in the Application Pool that ASP.Net is running under the Network Service Account. I have a UNC file share that is located on another server, let us say "\myservermyfiles". I have logged on to "MyServer" and right-clicked on the shared folder "myfiles" and just for the sake of testing, went to the Shared Tab->Permissions and added the Network Service account and gave it "change and read" access. I then went to the Security Tab, added the Network Service account and gave it all permissions. For some reason, I am still getting an "access denied" exception. I know impersonation is an option at some point, but I would really like to know why my ASP.Net application cannot copy a file to this share just for my own personal understanding given the fact that I gave the Network Service account the proper access. Like always, I will continue to research.

I've been researching and I've spent pratically all day on this. Here's my issue. The website uses forms authentication that we authenticate against active directory. I've been attempting to access files we have on a network share and push them down to the user (when they request them) in an http response. I keep getting "Access to the path <unc path> is denied".
Here's the code:
[Code]....
Things I've tried:1) When I add the "Computer" to the permissions of the folder it works and I dont even need to emulate a user (essentially just commenting out this code), but I'm not sure we want to explicitly give the computer access to some of our network shares 2) I've verified it's the correct username and password for the active directory account and that they have permissions on these network shares 3) I've fooled around with the WebProxy class with no luck (as I'm not entirely familiar with it) 4) I've tried impersonating the user by creating a windows token and passing the token as credentials (i've done this with similar websites) with no luck, plus this seemed a bit complicated for something I figured would be relatively easy.Its almost as if, the WebClient class isn't even using the credentials i've passed it.We've got it working now, but only by giving the "Computer" specific permissions on the network shares, which we'd like to avoid.

the only way to make themes work is to allow user "Everyone" to access the folder App_Themes. I am wondering if a more specific user instead of "Everyone" can be granted the access to allow themems work.Account "IIS_IUSRS" and "NETWORK SERVICE" have already been granted access.This is about folder access of Windows 7 running IIS7, not web page authorization configured via web.config. The web page is browsed via local host (i.e. the web page address is something like "[URL]
