Accessing Client - Side Generated Table Rows Through Server - Side

Feb 23, 2010

The idea is that a pure html table will be generated on the client side. (using jQuery to add dynamic new rows to the table when the user clicks a button). These rows contain textboxes, dropdownlists, checkboxes and other input controls. When the user clicks a button, a PostBack is triggered in which I need to access this data from the table on server side, validate it and perform other actions on it.

I'm able to perform the client side and access the table data on server side by adding runat="server" to the table tag. However, I only see the initial table rows (not the ones added through JavaScript) and I have troubles retrieving the different inputs from the rows. put me in the right direction?? Or someone offering a better solution to the problem?

Web Forms :: Accessing Client-side Table Rows On Server?

Jul 23, 2010

I have a table that the user can add rows to through javascript by clicking on a "add rows button". In each row there are two columns one with a dropdown list and the other a text box. The dropdown list is populated with data through a sub on server side code.I need to be able to insert the data from each row into a table but I'm unable to do this. I clicked on my "add rows button" to add several rows and then did a test to see how many rows the table was returning on the server side and it did not include the five rows I added .. only the header row.If there is a better way to allow users to dynamically add rows to a table and then access the dynamically created table on the server then I'm all ears!

Jquery - Options For Page With Matching Client-side And Server-side Markup?

Oct 17, 2010

Suppose I'm building a StackOverflow clone using webforms ASP.NET and jQuery. The Question page has a question, several answers, and comments under each. Requirements:Users can post new answers and comments, and edit existing ones, without postbacks. No UpdatePanels; the AJAX calls retrieve just the JSON they need, not HTML fragments. The page loads with all existing answers and comments in place (no javascript needs to run to read the page).

What I'm trying to figure out is how to do this without having to maintain two sets of markup (one that's bound on the client using some form of jQuery templating, and one that's bound on the server using traditional WebForms).

AJAX :: Rebind A Asp:repeater From Client Side Code?

Apr 28, 2010

i appologise if thisis a silly question but i just want to be completely sure something is not possile before i tell this to my manager.

i am a WinForms programmer by trade, but i have put in charge of making a web site for our sales team, and web development is a new area for me. the web site is written in ASP.NET, C# code. it is finished, however they are complaining that there are too many page refreshes.

first of all, we have an SQL server with all our data in it. on the main web page, the user must select their country of interest from a DropDownList. when they do this, all our customers from that country are displayed in an html table, generated by a Repeater. i have set AutoPostBack on the country DropDownList to true, so each time the user selects a different country, the SelectedIndexChanged event handler is called, and in here i generate a new sql statement with the selected country, and re-bind the Repeater.

There are also a few other DropDownLists that do other 'filtering' stuff. for example, one DropDownList selects whether to display customers whose license expires soon (within a week), and another DropDownList filters the customers who currently have an open support case. All the DropDownLists have their AutoPostBack set to true, and in their SelectedIndexChanged event handler, i work out the sql based on the values of the DropDownLists, and re-bind the Repeater.

the problem with the above is that each time the user selects a different value from the DropDownList, the page refreshes, clearly because the AutoPostBack is set to true for them all. so to stop this i need to set AutoPostBack to false - but then of course the SelectedIndexChanged event handlers are not called, and so i have no place to rebind the repeater with my new sql statement.

so what i really need, is to be able to set a DropDownList's AutoPostBack to false, and handle the rebinding of the Repeater in some client-side event, which does NOT result in a postback. the Repeater will be bound by some sql, which is generated by the values in the DropDownLists (eg "SELECT * FROM custTable WHERE [Country]='" + CountryDropDownList.Text + "'"), so in this client-side event i need to be able to reference the asp.net controls.

Forms Data Controls :: LinkButton On Repeater Stops Posting Back After Client Side JavaScript Executes?

MVC :: Looking For Client Side Only Jquery Framework?

Oct 25, 2010

Anyone have any suggestions for 3rd party controls that work entirely client side?By this I mean the following using the example of an invoice:An invoice is a master, with children.I have to be able to select properties on the invoice and add lines to the invoice via a grid to obviously have the customer like my invoice editing window because they don't want to have to enter the basics and then save and then add the line items.In a classic asp.net/mvc.net model the server does the processing. This requires that you either store your data objects in the view state (in this case EF) or you store it in the session.Neither scales worth crap.What I'm looking to do is be able to create an entire form that interacts in javascript using jquery and never posts back to the server to be persistant. It may pull data from the server to update lists and do lookups etc. but it will never have to have the server hold information to be persistant while it's being built (and thus only when the user clicks save will it actually post the data back.In a perfect world what would happen is that the EF object would be converted to javascript and then used and bound, and updated. Once I'm done I'd post back the javascript object and it would be automatically converted to the EF equivalent class which I could then attach and save to the database.By doing this I can eliminate all persistant memory usage and indeed essentially ALL use of the Session or viewstate which would be super powerful.

Javascript - User Control With Client + Server Side CustomValidation; Wrong Client Side Validator Is Picked

Nov 23, 2010

I have a user control which contains a CustomValidator which is used according to whether a RadioButton is checked or not (there are several RadioButtons, I'm only showing the relevant one)

<asp:RadioButton runat="Server" ID="RadioBetween" GroupName="DateGroup" CssClass="date_group_options_control_radio" />
[code]...

There is some client + server side validation code (the server side code does exactly the same thing and is skipped for brevity)

function ValidateDateFields_Client(source, args) [code]...

There are two instances of this control in the page. When running the client side version it hits the wrong one (the version of the control which is disabled). You can see from the generated HTML both are correctly specified. I'm not sure how .NET works out which clientside function to call given they both have the same name.

//
var ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator = document.all ? document.all["ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator"] : document.getElementById("ctl00_MCPH1_QueryTextValidator");

[code]...
Do i need to add something in to scope it? What's the best way to achieve this? If I disable the loading of the second control everything works fine.

Use Client Side Library (JQuery Or ExtJS)

C# - Best Way To Store Data On The Client Side - JQuery

Nov 29, 2010

Clicking 'Edit' for a row expands it (using JQuery) to reveal the full horror of all the associated editable objects. One of these is a list of documents associated with each row and needs to be JQuery-editable so the user could click 'edit' to open up the full row gui, then un/select checkboxes to de/associate documents and then hit 'Save' to persist everything.

Currently I'm using nested repeaters to store the initially-hidden fields - the repeater generates a hidden formfield containing a comma-separated list of IDs for the assoc documents. When it comes to populating the Edit gui I do a split operation on the delimited string and set/unset the checkboxes as required.

This is proving a nightmare from a maintainability perspective and in my frustrated wanderings of the web in search of a solution i noticed JQuery has some functionality to act as a client-side database. Does any one have any experience of this, and if so, would you recommend it? My custom JS to parse csv-strings and dynamically build the gui is starting to grind me down a bit.

MVC :: How To Really Get Jquery Client Side Validation To Work

Feb 15, 2011

Using MVC 3 RTM and MvcContrib/FluentHtml version 3.0.51.0, I can't get the jQuery client side validation to work. Server side validation works fine, and returns showing the correct validation summary, etc. But the form post always tries to hit the server-side post controller action when it should have stopped on the client side to display the validation error.

Web Forms :: Retrieving Table Object After Client - Side Changes

Jun 21, 2010

I have a simple issue that most likely is syntax related. I have a table ("myTable") that is dynamically generated at PageLoad and can be actively changed during run-time. One of the features the user is able to make use of is adding additional rows to the table, generated via Javascript. The user also has the ability to save the table (and it's changes) to the database via button. Upon selecting the button, I run a function that creates a two-dimensional array to store values (Row, column). After using the .FindControl function, I was able to get the client-side changes to each of the textboxes and dropdowns and populate the array with it.

After checking the information, it does in fact store into the array the value in the textboxes at the time of clicking the button. Example: Textbox loads with 200 in value, user changes it to 400, when button is selected the value stored is also 400. This works great, except for one issue... The additional rows.

When checking back in the array, it appears that the arrays size is generated by the table that is created at PageLoad instead of the table at the time the save button is selected. Example: myTable is created with 3 rows, user adds 2 more rows to the table, save button is pressed. The array displays 3 rows instead of 5 rows, however.................................

Injecting Table Row Inside Repeater Item

Apr 8, 2010

I am trying to inject inside repeaters items, the problem is that the row is generated in a wrong location. If you try this simple example, you will see that the rown is generated under label '2' as it should be generated under label '1'. Why does it happen? And how to fix that?

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int [] array = {1,2,3,4,5};
rpt.DataSource = array;
rpt.DataBind();
}
protected string _extraRowHtml;
protected void rpt_ItemDataBound(object sender, RepeaterItemEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.Item ||
e.Item.ItemType == ListItemType.AlternatingItem)
{
int tmp = ((int)e.Item.DataItem);
_extraRowHtml = tmp == 1 ? "

Topics

" : string.Empty; ;
}
}
<asp:Repeater ID="rpt" runat="server" onitemdatabound="rpt_ItemDataBound">
<HeaderTemplate>

</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>

Jquery - Programming With Js In Client Side With Ajax Technology?

I heard that ASP.NET AJAX is too slow, if it's true (is it?) - what are the other options (to combine ASP.NET and Ajax) for me? Which tool combine all that technologies?
