C# - Adding Additional Input Fields Dynamically (similar To SO Careers)?

Jan 12, 2011

Similar to the "add more experience" functionality in [URL], I want to provide a "Add another location" link which should display an additional row of a set of 4 dropdowns (country, state, city, region). I'm actually using the CascadingDropDown jQuery Plugin for ASP.NET MVC [URL] for my location dropdown functionality, but I need to give the user the ability to add multiple locations. What would be the easiest way to handle this in ASP.NET MVC and jQuery?

Security :: Best Way To Add Additional Fields To CreateUserWizard

Sep 21, 2010

I'm using the ASP.NET Membership system to add new users to my site. It's working fine. But I'd like to force the user to enter additional required information (on a different aspx page) before they can successfully complete the registration process. What is the easiest way to direct and force the user to complete a different page of fields (stored in SQL in columns located on the same table as the basic membership fields) as a condition of completing the registration process?

In searching different sites, I see additional properties and templates like Wizard Steps, Continue button, Finish button---but I'm not clear as to which of these (perhaps none of them?) will allow me to accomplish this goal.

CheckBoxFor Render Additional Input Tag - Get Value Using FormCollection?

May 18, 2010

In my ASP.NET MVC app I am rendering out a checkbox using the following code:

<%= Html.CheckBoxFor(i=>i.ReceiveRSVPNotifications) %>

Now I see that this renders both the checkbox input tag and a hidden input tag. The problem that I am having is when I try retrieve the value from the checkbox using the FormCollection:

FormValues["ReceiveRSVPNotifications"]

I get the value "true,false". When looking at the rendered out HTML I can see the following:

<input id="ReceiveRSVPNotifications" name="ReceiveRSVPNotifications" value="true" type="checkbox">
<input name="ReceiveRSVPNotifications" value="false" type="hidden">

So the FormValues collection seems to join these two values since they have the same name.

<input name="blah-64" value="false" type="hidden">

Problem is, when I post the form, the form key "blah-64 returns "on, off".

Why is this?

Custom Role Provider - Additional Fields - Represent Multi - Layered Security Model

Apr 4, 2011

There are multiple roles. (Role A, Role B etc) There are multiple input/output fields. (Field A, Field B etc) There are multiple permission levels controlling access to each field. (Read, Direct Edit, Edit With Approval, None) Each role has its own permissions to fields. (Role A has Read Permission to Field A; Role B has Direct Edit permission to Field A etc) Every role can be assigned to users and they are assigned by Geographic information. (User A is assigned to Role A for Continent: Europe - Country: Germany; User B is assigned to Role A for Continent: Europe - Country: France; User A is assigned to Role B for Continent: Europe - Country: France etc) Users can have multiple roles User identity is coming from Windows Authentication.

is it possible to represent this type of kind of multi-layered security model using ASP.NET internal membership/role providers? If so, what should my starting point be? Creating only custom role provider with custom methods and fields be enough?

C# - Forms Authentication Adding Additional Information Alongwith ReturnUrl?

Oct 12, 2010

With Forms Authentication when the app needs to redirect to sign-in page is there an event or any extensibility point that will let me do additional work to the request before it redirects to the sign-in page?

I would like to send additional information in the query string that could vary such that it wouldn't work to just statically embed that in the link in the loginUrl node in the web.config.

Edit: For clarification, I want to intercept the request prior to being redirected TO the login page.

Example:

<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms loginUrl="http://the/interwebs/login.aspx" timeout="2880"
enableCrossAppRedirects="true" />
</authentication>

And prior the user being redirected to http://the/interwebs/login.aspx I would like to be able to pack in query values so the url could end up something like http://the/interwebs/login.aspx?Action=Refresh

MVC :: Arbitrary Input Fields On Page

Oct 23, 2010

I am looking for some adivce about the possbility of doing the following while working whith MVC. Firstly sorry if the subject line is not very descriptive. I have put something together in ASP WebForms where by I can put a few core fields on my page that identify an object, e.g. a Name and ID... and then I can add arbritrary fields to the aspx page that are now saved and retrieved with the "owning object". These extra fields are stored in a seperate table on the database to the primary object fields. A short explanation of how this works:

1. I have my own version of TextBox (and other input controls) called r3d:TextBox (etc.) and this text box has XmlParent and XmlElement tags, this is done by way of an interface.

2. I have a r3dBase page that all my forms inherit from and this page check for the existstance of any r3d:TextBox (and other input controls) that have the XmlParen and XmlElement tag defiened.

3. When an iheriting form is saved the controls with the Xml tags defined are also saved, but I don't have to change any code in the code behind pages. The framework I have put in place takes care of this for me. The data is saved

4. When an inheriting page is loaded all controls with the XmlParent and XmlElement tags are populated with any data that has previously been saved for them that belong to the main object being displayed on the page.

This provides for a nice easy way for me to extend my forms with non core data when clients request new fields. It also means that different clients can request different new fields and I don't have to make any modifications to the core objects. I have another mechanism that determins what fields are seen by which clients.

Anyway I am completely new to MVC (not written a single line of code) so I have no idea as to whether this paradigm will lend itself to the above described mechanisms or not. Does any one have anythoughts about this, approaches I might try to achive the above to of functionality or perhaps completely different suggestions that would achive a similar end that might work well with MVC

Hide Password Input Fields?

Aug 27, 2010

We have some error reporting code that, when an unhandled exception occurs, we send everything over in an email to our groups. This is great except if an unhandled exception occurs on a page with a password field then it's sent over as plain text.

Is there a way to iterate through Request.Form and figure out which item(s) are passwords? This is done at a low level so we can't look for specific controls.

Naturally, we could check to see what type the input box is but I'm not sure if that's the cleanest way. Advice?
