C# - Automapper Running Extremely Slow On Mapping 1400 Records?
Nov 9, 2010
I am using AUtomapper which I am very impressed with however, I have a complex object with many nested collections. I'm using Telerik OpenAccess and it returns the 1400 records fast but when I pass it to Automapper and it slows to a ridiculous crawl. Here is my code for reference:
List<DAL.Event> query = httpContext.Events.Where(e => e.Inactive != true && e.Event_Locations != null).ToList();
Mapper.CreateMap<DAL.Event, EventDTO>();
Mapper.CreateMap<DAL.Event_Association, EventAssociationDTO>(); [code]....

I've set up a msSQL remote connection on a GoDaddy shared hosting account (known as Direct Database Access).I'm doing some javascript/HTML/css work on the site and don't need/want to have to download/manage a separate database.The remote connection works and the pages load as expected. However, each time I request a DB driven page in my browser it takes about 2-4 minutes before the page is sent/downloaded.Could this be a limitation set by godaddy to discourage connecting to the database remotely?Is there anyway to set up a "proxy" on the production server to get the query results?Are there any alternative methods for connecting to the DB you could suggest?Should I just stop whining about it and setup a local copy of the database?

So i'm new to AJAX and just installed the AJAX toolkit.
When i have tried to used any of the object there my page are really slow, it like the server is forever to compile the site and when that is done the browser shows it in a flash.
You can see here :
[URL]
This is not a problem when using only ASP.NET.
When i debug in VS2008 i can see that is looking for some random files when compiling like C:AjaxBuildAjaxServerAjaxControlToolkitToolkitScriptManagerToolkitScriptManager.cs and alot of other stuff, it goes through alot of setting there and i think that is the hold up, why it's so slow.
I have Sp1 installed, running Windows 7 64bit.
These pages are very small and standard. I basicly drag a toolkitscriptmanager, htmleditor, textbox and two buttons to the form. There isnt more.
This is the code for the first page :
[Code]....
The host has AJAX support and has installed SP1 for .NET.

I'm using PopupControlExtender in a GridView, which pops up various dropdowns, treeviews, calendars etc. depending on which cell is clicked. I'm populating the dropdowns on the OnPreRender event. The result is, GridView is becoming extremely slow. I've tried removing Calendar controls, the Grid is still very slow. My guess is the enormously large source view of the page, resulting from populating controls on PreRender. Here is a sample ItemTemplate:
[Code]....
My goal is to populate the controls inside popup panel only when that panel becomes visible. I tried using OnResolveControlID event for this in PopupControlExtender. But strangely enough, that event fires only when control is NOT found, contrary to what its name suggests.
Anyway, my goal is to populate the popup panels controls (mainly ListControls) ONLY when their container panel becomes visible - hoping that this will make the grid faster. The same grid works perfect with AutoGenerateColumns=true and no populating of ListControls (not an option). Also, I'm NOT using debug option in web.config.

I'm more into the LAMP stack, but I've been asked to work on a site that is running Windows and IIS 2008. I'm a beginner with IIS, so please be patient with me on this, and please ask me to provide more information if that is needed to determine. I read the answer here (Slow first page load on asp.net site), but it seems like if I go to the site with one browser it takes long to load the first page, then fast on all other pages, then if I open up another browser, it's the same thing, so it's not something that is saved on the server, but per session? Is there a way to have the application running at all times? Right now it is taking 12 to 15 seconds for the first page to load. I have access to the WebControlCenter and FTP.

There's a web app I've been assigned to, which is running very slow. It is a site that sells products so it is database driven, however even pages that do not query the database are loading very slow. The pages use master pages, and the code is in VB.NETI checked with fiddler and the time it takes to load basic (non database driven) pages are about 5.5 seconds on average.
What are some tools that can help me determine the cause of the slow speeds, and any recommendations as to how to speed it up, or potential issues that could cause it?UpdateSo I messed around with the code piece by piece as I wasn't getting anywhere with these tools. As soon as I remove master pages, and I include the same code that's on the master pages in the .aspx page itself, the speed improves drastically (approximately 5 times faster load times).What might cause the master pages to cause load times to slow down so much?

My web app connects to my database server which is on my lan. It is usually very quick but once in a while the connection is extremely slow and has even causing errors by timing out. The server only has 1 gb of memory so I'm going to upgrade to at least 4 gb.

One of my peer wrote a query based on multiple tables using joins. One of the table is in a different database The query was taking much time
1. Create an SP
2. Create a temp table and copy all records from the external db
3. Avoid using Left Join as much as possible and use Inner Join
4. Create and use indexes
5. Remove tables/columns that are not necessary
In this scenario, I would like to suggest to use Covering Index, but how can it be created for multiple tables and a temp table?

I have created a table in my Oracle database and am trying to add / edit / delete/ query the records. This table already has 4000000 records. Now when I try to query the database, it takes close to 3 minuetes to return records. I have tried creating indexes, but was not successfull so far.
Following is the structure:
User : varchar(20)
Fac : varchar(10)
Prm: varchar(100)
I am using the following code in VS2005:

Page A loads very fast; Page B loads very slowly and does some CPU-intensive things on the web server. I noticed that if someone is loading Page B, then Page A also loads slowly - for ALL users. What is the standard practice for making sure this doesn't happen? If multiple users are loading Page B at the same time then Page A is ridiculously slow. Is there an IIS setting, web.config setting, or hardware configuration I could use to make sure that the fast-loading pages aren't bogged down by other pages that need more time to load?

I'm new in using C# in ASP.net My code is causing Internet Explorer to run slow and return error message asking to stop running this script.
When I use the "Select *...", it return about 700 rows of records and it cause the error.
When I use another SQL "Select NOC0854....", filtering some records, it return about 300 rows of records and no error message appear.
How I can improve my code so that I can retrieve all records from my table? I think 700 rows of records doesn't seem a lot, maybe my code is not correct?
Code:
//cmd.CommandText = "Select * from PTH3759";
cmd.CommandText = "SELECT NOC0854 from PTH3759 WHERE HID0019 >= TO_DATE('11/01/2014','MM/DD/YYYY') AND HID0019 <= TO_DATE('11/28/2014','MM/DD/YYYY')";
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
OracleDataReader dr = cmd.ExecuteReader();
if (dr.HasRows) {
GridView1.DataSource = cmd.ExecuteReader();
GridView1.DataBind();
}

I have a user control that is common to the application. It searchs for lakhs of Items in one go from the db and I set the selected Items in a list in a session to pass on to the pages that use it. Hence making the application a tad slower. The gridview that contains the Items should have sorting, page indexing. What according to u,I should do to enhance the application's performance ?

Having real trouble using my local host to test sites. It runs extremely slow! Sometimes up to a minute to load a page. I'm using firefox and the sites i'm testing run fine on other developers in my office local machines/ on the production server.
I've gone through the normal things :-
Disabled IPv6
Not running in debug mood Put the site in the highest app pool (High Isolated) on IIS 6.Taking of firewalls etc.The problem only seems to occur when hitting pages which contain some form of .net code in the code-behind.
Appreciate that this a little bit of a vague topic / stab in the dark but would appreciate any sort of advice - it's horrible waiting a minute each refresh to try out a change!

I'm working on a small standalone .NET app needs to refer to some tabular data and its only just selects and at most these tables have 250 records. Previously developers have used a SQL server database. Would I get a performance advantage if I simply convert the table data to XML and read from that? Also is there any kind of performance advantage over keeping database files in the App_Data folder for ASP.NET and attaching them dynamically as opposed to managing them separately? And this is probably a silly question, but if I do it that way does it mean that I don't have to install SQL server separately on the client's computer?

Why does a very simple script which inserts 26,000 records into a mysql database (myisam, no transactions) take 13 seconds in the php implementation, and then 35-50 seconds using mono+mysql connector? I thought asp.net was faster than php? Could the problem be the mono mysql connector is "platform independent", so the performance just stinks? or does asp.net suffer more overhead than php when it comes to executing each query? Aren't there any native linux binaries for mysql connector for mono that may be faster?

When i view it in firefox or safari the site is really smooth.I am not sure if i added somthing which made IE choppy because i do not remember it being choppy.... but i never really paid attention until i started to notice it.Is scrolling the site in IE choppy for you also?I tried to remove all the jquery and java - scripts i had, still choppy when scrolling. I'm not sure whats going on? The website is quite image heavy, even backgrounds are quite big, however firefox and safari have not problems... is it a IE chaching problem?

I have a little problem with a LinkButton in a UserControl based asp.net application. In Firefox, one single click on the LinkButton does not do anything. You have to press and hold the LinkButton for approx. 800ms to successfully trigger the PostBack.The Focus outline is lagging too. When i click on that LinkButton, the outline-change needs approximately the same amount of time you have to hold the button the trigger the postback. the webapplication and the LinkButtons are working perfectly in IE and Chrome the javascript libraries (external and internal) are currently neither obfuscated nor compressed Here's the asp.net markup:
<li id="liMemberGetPerson" runat="server" class="inactive clear">
<div class="tab clear">
<div class="tab-left"></div>
<div class="tab-main">
<asp:LinkButton ID="lbPersonArea" runat="server"
Text="Person" CausesValidation="false"
OnCommand="OnMemberViewAspectChange"
CommandArgument="MemberGetPerson" />
</div>
<div class="tab-right"></div>
</div>
</li>
Edit: the "code-behind":
protected void OnMemberViewAspectChange(Object sender, CommandEventArgs e){
AppAction currentAction = HistoryManagerFactory.GetCommandManager().GetCurrentCommand();
AppAction newAction = new AppAction();
newAction.ViewType = ViewType.MemberView;
newAction.AspectType = (AspectType)Enum.Parse(typeof(AspectType), e.CommandArgument.ToString());
newAction.ObjectID = currentAction.ObjectID;
newAction.Mode = currentAction.Mode;
HistoryManagerFactory.GetCommandManager().AddNewCommand(newAction);
ChangeAspect( newAction );}
The ChangeAspect() method call renders the corresponding View ( UserControl ). I have tried the following without success: Disable the Firefox Client Caching Disabling PartialPage Updates (disabling the UpdatePanels) If anyone has ever encountered this problem, i'd be very thankful to hear about any possible solutions.

This may be a little more up the alley of our mvc fellows, but regardless.
First, I have the following model:
Csharp Code:
[code]....
Notes: RenderPartials is a custom extension method and that part works, as do the actual views. The correct data is displayed. Just not in the expected order. In fact, it mirrors the database.

I have a requirement by my client to be able to upload extremely large files.
I'm talking about 7 GB files. The website they are currently running on is a ASP.NET 4.0 app, so obviously the standard upload scheme for my web app is not going to work.
I'm tossing around multiple options trying to figure out what the best route to go would be.
One option I'm thinking about seeing if I can do would be to have a BitTorrent Uploader. The end users for this app will typically have the same file on hand, so the idea would be that an end user would go to the site, say that they wanted to upload a file. At that point, they would pick the file, and then the server would immediately mark that person as a seed for that file. Then, my web app would go to a preconfigured leech on our side, and instruct the leech to download the file. I would expect at some point during or after this process the torrent would do some magic to find other seeders on the client's network, or wherever, but that's the idea.
Is there any technology out there already that does this? Or am I describing something that I'm going to have to build from the ground up?

Can it handle mapping using private members like NHibernate can? The documentation is very slim, but it seems like one of the objects or methods provided with the tool could do something like this.
Mapper
.With<FooDTO>()
.Map(x => x.Value)
.To<Foo>("_value");
// To<T>(string member) or To<T>(Func<T, bool> func)
Mapper.CreateMap<Foo, FooDTO>();
I know my example methods don't exist as-is, but maybe I've overlooked something else already built in.

I'm trying to figure out the best approach to architecting this project. Basically, it's a "band" profile site. I'm using ASP.NET 4, EF, and Automapper (structuremap too, but that's not important). I'm running into performance issues I have a EntityFramework repository class that interacts directly onto the EF objects using LINQ:
[Pluggable("Repository")]
public class EntityDataRepository : IRepository
static EntityDataRepository()
// other mappings removed
// Data. objects are EF objects, mapping to my DTO classes

Is it possible with automapper in C# to map the properties of an object to an array/dictionary? I have tried the following:
Mapper.CreateMap<FFCLeads.Models.FFCLead, Dictionary<string, SqlParameter>>()
.ForMember(d => d["LeadID"], o => o.MapFrom(s => new SqlParameter("LeadID", s.LeadID)))
.ForMember(d => d["LastName"], o => o.MapFrom(s => new SqlParameter("LastName", s.LastName)));
However, it does not work (object ref not set to an instance). Basically, I'm trying to make the values of this object to an array of SqlParameter objects. Possible? If so, what is the correct way to do this?
