I'm working on a small standalone .NET app needs to refer to some tabular data and its only just selects and at most these tables have 250 records. Previously developers have used a SQL server database. Would I get a performance advantage if I simply convert the table data to XML and read from that? Also is there any kind of performance advantage over keeping database files in the App_Data folder for ASP.NET and attaching them dynamically as opposed to managing them separately? And this is probably a silly question, but if I do it that way does it mean that I don't have to install SQL server separately on the client's computer?
Just another day i found myself writing code to show data on the UI. I am again using DataGrid/GridView (ASP.NET), User Id as link button (clickable) to redirect user to another page. User having hard time to find where to click(Though the link has underline and hand pointer as usual on hover) just another common table like structure Following are the columns for example, User ID (Link button), User Name, First Name, Last Name, Date Of Birth Now i would like to make it better form the usability point of view. Can someone suggest a good link, example or suggestions to make it better.
I am using the ASP.NET3.5 gridview control in a new project. My problem is that the gridview presents data in basic tabular format, whereas I want a grid with row header / grouping behaviors. An example of this would be Outlook web interface, which can group emails by date, as well as allowing you to select individual emails to display.
My problem: I can't see how this could be easily done with Gridview? I did find a product called Telerik that has a seemingly fancy Gridview, but I am hesitant to spend money on a single components that now also locks me into a third-party framework...

Which will contain the color used for different points and x values and y values. I managed to show the colors and x values but not able to show the y values. I am giving the code also. I am using AUtomapper which I am very impressed with however, I have a complex object with many nested collections. I'm using Telerik OpenAccess and it returns the 1400 records fast but when I pass it to Automapper and it slows to a ridiculous crawl. Here is my code for reference:
Whats the best way to return a tabular structure from an ASP.NET (2.0) web service?
It should be inter-operable with Java, Iphone App or any other platform.
EDIT: By inter-operable I mean the other technology/client should be able to consume it or deserialize it to their native types, instead of parsing response XML.
Does anyone have a Tabular create and details MVC 2 Template that i can pop into my project and use, instead of the ugly linear templates that come out of the box in MVC?
Are there free MVC view templates anywhere on the internet?

I am creating my application in asp.net 3.5. I have to make my Data Access layer, in which I am doing the traditional method of fetching/updating the data. Which is SqlConnection than SQLCommand, than SQLadapter. Will there be any other way I can create my DAL layer easily.
Specification.
My website is small. Approx 7-10 pages. Database has around 80 tables.
What I know:
Linq to SQL - I don't want to use it because I am not fully aware about the LINQ statement and I need to develop the application really fast. [3 days :-( ]. Also, there are 100% chances that the table structure will be altered in future. Enterprise Library: It will take too much time for me to integrate to my application.

I am executing a long-running Oracle stored procedure from .NET. The procedure takes about three hours to run. Ideally, the user should be able to kick off the procedure, close the browser, and come back later to check the results.
The problem is that the connection to the Oracle procedure is lost after exactly an hour. As you would expect, the Oracle procedre runs to completion if it is executed from SQL Plus. Strangely enough, it will also run to completion if I run in debug mode on my local machine (I start two threads, one of which executes the procedure. I set a breakpoint on the second thread).
Here is my connection string:
data source= (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=serverx)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=TestSID)))
