C# - Calling Event With HiddenField In .NET Without Scripts?
Jul 8, 2010
Looks like the "asp:HiddenField" doesn't have an "AutoPostBack" property, and I'm having problems with the "OnValueChanged" event... I need to call a function (C#) when I populate the hidden field, but in my case nothing happens. And I cannot use any scripts.

I'm working on a web application using VB.NET. In page load event am calling a remote web service which take time to bring the data. During this process none of the other contents on page are shown(render).
I want to call this remote web service asynchronously so that other data of page is displayed and web service data will be displayed when its available.

i'm trying to learn about user controls. I created a user control that has a textbox and a button. What i'd like to be able to do is when i click the button in the user control, populate a label in the aspx page. I understand that i could just have a button on the page that uses some properties on the user control to get that information.. but i'd like to know how to do it with the button the user control.. the reason for this is the button is just an example.. a learning tool. if i can get this working, i'd likely be putting thing in the user control that might require this kind of passing information. Anyway.. i've found some c# examples that i tried to get working as vb.. but once started getting into the delegates and events.. well.. it made me turn to this post.

I currently have this working but it requires me to have a static method as the method called in the code behind. I would like to be able to access some member variables that can't be static.
EDIT: Let me clarify, I'm looking to edit a value in one of the user controls on the page based on the button click. I am holding the user controls in a list on the page and using the parameters passed through the javascript to find the user control that I want to update and modify the value there.
It currently looks like this:
Javascript:
function incrementCompletes(obj)
{
var firstParameter = $(obj).parents('.parentClass1').find('.childClass1').html();
var secondParameter = $(obj).parents('.parentClass2').find('.childClass2').html();
[Code]....
I would like to find a solution that does not require the method called to be static.

I have a procedure that is generating some radio buttons and assigning a CheckedChanged postback event based on the level being passed through (up to 4 levels). When the first level is checked (radio button selected) the postback event rb_CheckChanged00() is called and a check is done to see if this item has any children, if it does, it will create more radio buttons and assign rb_CheckChanged01 to the CheckChanged event for these - This part is working fine.
The issue I have is when I select the second Radio Button that has been created (the child), it doesn't seem to go to the post back event at all. The page is posting back when I click on it but everything resets because it won't go into rb_CheckChanged01.
I know this info is quite vague but I am hoping someone has an idea on how the post back event works and if I am somehow using it incorrectly.

Since i have 5 buttons that pretty much run the same code, except for the database updates, i found some examples of how to do this.. so i created 1 button event, and put my general calc code then some if statements to determine what button was clicked.. but doing this now i get a NullReferenceException
and here is the code its complaining about, why would this work within the other button events, but not this one? Ive compared and and all the buttons on the page are the same with the except of the database entries.
Button b = (Button)sender;
Label tfive = (Label)FormView1.FindControl("five");
Label ttwo = (Label)FormView1.FindControl("two");

I have a web form in which I create many controls including a submit button dinamically.
I want to check a condition in the button's click event and if it comes true, call a javascript funtion to show an alert. but the problem is when I use :
Page.RegisterClientScriptBlock("ClientScript", script);
in the btn_Click event, it is not working. I guess the script should be registered at page_load.

I have a for which is built within an ASP.net usercontrol. This form is then used within a CMS as part of integration with a merchant gateway. The gateway requires that a number of hiddenfields be passed in which is fine in the main however one of these needs to be called Profile. The CMS I am using also defines a global variable called Profile and as such when I try and add a hidden field with this ID I get errors.
Is there a way of setting the 'name' property to Profile, and the ID to something different?

<asp:HiddenField ID="mypostID" runat="server" Value=""/>
I wanted to ask if I could do something like:
<asp:HiddenField ID="mypostID" runat="server" Value="<% Response.Write(Session["ïd"])%>"/>
I cannot access the session from the user control code behind but if I put a Respose.Write on the page itself it shows the session value.

I'm making a GridView with like 12 fields and about 8 of them are hidden. I want to display those 8 as details of each row when I select the row with a button. I already have the jQuery function that someone in this forum gave me a couple weeks ago, it is working perfectly fine. The problem I have is that I don't get the value of the BoundField that is visible =False I just get the closest BoundField value of the index that I request (the next of the hidden one). I have used a TemplateField with a HiddenField and I have the same problem. There is some way to get those HiddenField? This is the code that I'm using:

The Visible property, as I understand it, helps to enable or disable the visibility of a control.
But what is its use in the case of the HiddenField control in ASP.NET?
