I want to create a completely new control instead of extending an existing one. I have found a few articles on the net, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. I've created Custom User controls in Win Forms before and thought it would be somewhat the same in ASP.NET, but it does not seem so. Many articles talk about a Web Control Library template which doesn't seem to be available when creating a New Project, but is available when adding a New item to an existing ASP.NET forms project in VS2008.
I have extended control by using the ASP.NET Server Control template. But all you get with is a .cs file. How do design a brand new control with that?What I want is to create a control from scratch, with postback functionality, and that compiles to a DLL. Am I going about this all wrong? Should I rather be looking at the ASP.NET Server Control Project Template? If so, How do I create a brand new control with the ASP.NET Server Control?I'm working with VS2008 SP1, .net 3.5, and C#.

Users can upload files but I want the maximum WIDTH size to be 500px.

Every thing is working fine, except for the fact that when i try to upload the file on the server i am getting an error: (probably some authorization exception).
do i need to give some rights to the upload up there on the server. If so then for which account and do i need to restart the server after giving rights?

The code-behind logic of the custom control will perform operations on these named DIV sections. The page where the custom control is hosted needs to be able to add named controls to the DIV sections and perform operations on these named controls added to the DIV sections.

I have an asp.net panel having various controls including gridview. I have converted this panel into pdf and attached it as an email attachment using memory stream. Everything is working fine. I'm trying to upload a PDF file using our web app. I'm using the FileUpload control. The file I tried to upload was 4.7mb in size. I was unable to upload this file. I tried uploading another PDF file that was 936KB in size and it was fine. What would prevent this. Does the FileUpload control have a size restriction on it?
