C# - Cross-Page PostBack Error When Posted From One Folder To Another?

Feb 18, 2011

I'm getting the 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' error on PreviousPage after using PostBackUrl.I created a simple test page to recreate the problem, however it worked fine, until I moved the source and destination pages into different folders. Is this the reason the PreviousPage object is null? how do I fix it?Both the folders the source and destination pages are in are in the root directory of the website.Source Page: /companies/test.aspx

<asp:TextBox ID="Demo" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:LinkButton ID="testlink" Text="test" runat="server" PostBackUrl="~/Documents/test2.aspx">

Cross Page Postback From Codebehind?

Aug 16, 2010

I want to do something similar to what happens when you click an asp.net button that has a PostBackURL set. I've tried Server.Transfer but the URL doesn't change (which is something I want). Is there a better way to do this, or alternatively is there a way to make Server.Transfer display the correct URL?

Cross Page Postback And Passing Info From Source To Destination Page

Feb 15, 2010

I have a FileUpload control in the Source page. On the Upload button handler, I read the file into memory (after doing some validations) and since it's always going to be a TXT file, I create a string that I need to pass to the Destination page. I thought of using Cross Page postback and set the PostBackUrl property of the upload button. But it appears that the breakpoint in the Upload button handler is never hit. It directly goes to the Page_Load in the Destination page. If I can't use Cross Page postback and don't want to use Session or the database, how do I pass this string from Source page to the Destination page?

I've been having trouble getting a postbackurl to work, so I tried to do a simple test between two pages and I still get the same thing.

[Code]....

That's all I have on Test1.aspx, yet no matter what I do it just postsback to itself. I can't get it to direct to Test2.aspx. I've tried LinkButton too.

I'm using VS2010 and the builtin webserver.

Web Forms :: Cross Page Postback - Unable To Read The Values From Page1?

Mar 25, 2010

I have a page (page1) with 4 controls that serve as the parameters for a report. The submit button does a cross page postback to another page (page2) that contains a ReportViewer control.Unfortunately, I cannot read the values from page1 once I get to page2. Here is the source to page1:

[Code]....

Here is the handling code on page2 (rvProjectStatus being the ReportViewer control):
[Code]....

In other situations I have passed such values in the query string and then assigned them to the parameter collection, no problem. Also, please note, I have tried using the @PreviousPageType directive to get at the types on page1, but have met with no success there either.

Web Forms :: Page Goes To Error After Click Before Page Fully Loaded / Invalid Postback Or Callback Argument

Oct 25, 2010

When user cliick on the control before page fully loaded it goes to error page.

Following is the trace.

Execution Error

Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using <pages enableEventValidation="true"/> in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.

Jquery Cross Protocol Error?

Jun 11, 2010

i am working on an mvc page that allows users to securely logon via a colorbox modal window. the modal is layed out something like this:

<html>
<body>
<div id="overlay" style="display: block;" class="overlay"> <div>

[code]...

thats the basic layout.what happens is when the iframe form is authenticated, it calls parent.$.fn.colorbox.close() which closes the modal and reloads the parent page.now the problem is the colorbox.close script is in the parent page (not the iframe) so it cannot be called from the iframe due to the protocols being different (https and http).so how can i either call the script cross protocol (which i believe you cant do) or from the iframe set the colorbox div's display attribute to none and hiding the overlay. this would hide the modal just as well but can the code in the iframe talk to the parent pages html? if it could i would use something like:

$('#colorbox').attr('style', 'display: none;');

but that jquery doesnt work.

.NET - Refreshing A Posted Page That Isn't Cached On IE

Mar 6, 2010

Lets say you have a page with headers that tell the browser not to cache. Also, this page has already been posted back to itself. Now you hit the refresh button and you click cancel on the IE modal box with the "previously submitted..." message. You get "Webpage has expired". This doesn't happen in FF or Chrome. Is there a way to prevent the "Webpage has expired" message in IE?Since the page isn't cached, I guess IE has nothing to render. But if the page isn't cached and FF and Chrome shows it, I guess they just show the page as previously shown?

Web Forms :: How A Page Is Posted Back To Server When Press A Button

Apr 20, 2010

Whatever server Control we take on aspx page while in coding phase, all those controls are converted to html controls through the asp.net engine and sent to the requesting web browser. That's fine.

Now, all the controls that are rendered on the browser are html controls. I am bit confused that how after pressing any button (Or any such control that post back pages) page is posted back to the asp.net engine. How such html controls comes to know where (address) they have to go?

I have a datalist and gridview that have a image in a column.. when you click the imagebutton, its calls my method that updates a table. The page is posting during this event, but when the page is done, the image hasnt changed.. im sure it has to do with the datasource not binding during that click.. so where can i move this code to or can i simply bind the control during that click? Currently im handling it in the itemdatabound event.. which would explain it.. but where is the correct place to handle this logic?

How To Raise Load Event On Previous Page With Cross Page Postbacks

Feb 21, 2010

I'm working on a wizard-like set of page, and I'm relying on cross page postbacks to navigate between them.

I need to be able to trigger the Load event on the previous page in order to save the form data for the page.

I've been told that for situations of this sort all I had to do is access the PreviousPage property in the destination page and this would trigger the load event of the previous page but for some reason this doesn't seem to be working.

Is there anything else I can do to explicitly trigger the load event on the previouspage if the PreviousPage property is not null?

Cross-page Postbacks And Back Again Retaining Data From Source Page?

Sep 17, 2010

Is it possible to use cross-page postbacks (or a similar method, perhaps Server.Transfer) to post form data (say, Data-set A) to a page, which then allows the user to add some additional information (say, Data-set B) and then postback to the original page the complete set of data (A+B) which then flows through the normal event execution process, similar to as if all data A+B was submitted on the original page to itself in a normal postback?

I don't want the second page to have any type knowledge of the original page, it just needs to supply two additional feeds and send the data on. This way different pages and controls could use this method for gaining additional data.

For example:

Page 1 could have a form with various text inputs, and two hidden fields Hidden1 + Hidden2 which are empty.

When the form on page 1 is submitted the user is presented with page 2, they complete that page and then all the form data from page 1 is posted back to page 1 but with the hidden fields 1 + 2 complete. Page 1 then has all the information it needs to complete.

I'm thinking that perhaps page 2 just needs to use PreviousPage and take its post data, add to it and then post it back to page 1, but as if it came from Page 1 and not Page 2. But I'm not sure if this is possible and ASP.NET might read this as tampered data?

Ajax - Cannot Catch An Error On As Sync Postback (page With Updatepanel)

Feb 5, 2010

I use an updatepanel and I register a handler for endRequest to catch errors: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest(EndRequestHandler); On the server an exception is thrown to test the client side. The problem is that in IE and FireFox EndRequestHandler is never called! It works as expected in Opera and Safari. On a simple page with few controls it works as expected in all browsers. What I found out with Firebug is that the response is Content-length: 67, but there is no response (empty tab for response)! The expected response is 53|error|500|Object reference not set to an instance of an object.|

I have not debugged the ajax library precisely but what I have seen is that some code runs to prepare for pageLoading event (maybe because it cannot detect the error?), but there is no information for updatepanels from the response and an error occurs trying to use an object for updatepanels which is null. The error is caught by a try-finally block.

Jquery - Add Dropdownlist Item From JavaScript Causes Page Postback Error

Feb 17, 2011

all elements are in an updatepanel. click on a list of <tr> to fire a JavaScript function to add new <option> to the asp dropdownlist. But, when I click on other buttons to callback to the server, I get an error message:

Uncaught
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException:
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException:
Invalid postback or callback argument.
Event validation is enabled using

in configuration or <%@ Page EnableEventValidation="true" %> in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. I understand the problem. I need to let server side know the change of the dropdownlist before any other postback. Set validation as false won't work in this case, the dropdown will lose the new item anyway. I did some researches, and the possible solutions:

1)Using ViewState? Request Form? could anyone give an example?

2)Add dropdownlist item in server side. But I want to make the whole tr row clickable to fire the event. Could I click on tr and fire eg. its first child linkbutton or a linkbutton in somewhere else.

3)I've tried Jquery.ajax and webmethod , it can fire server event but since all method are static (shared) , it doesn't allow me to edit the downdownlist instance.

AJAX :: Page Is Posted Back Due To Asynchronous File Uploader Control ?

Nov 22, 2010

I am using Asynchronous File uploader ajax toolkit control.I want to get knowledge of whether page is posted back due to File uploader or not in Page_Load event of my aspx page.

For that i tried to use Page properties IsAsync, IsCallBack but even page is posted back on responce of File Upload these properties are false, only IsPostback property is True.

Why IsAsync and IsCallBack properties are false ?

I was thinking that since this control upload files Asyncronously, so atleast on File Upload IsAsync property should be True. But that is also false .

Cross Page Posting Via HttpRequest || Page.PreviousPage?

Mar 26, 2011

I've been developing classic ASP pages at the job for the past five years and now we are moving to ASP.NET. I'm trying to understand how to get form field values from one page to another and it seems like there is more than one way to do it. In classic ASPI just called request.form collection and got the information. Which way is recommended in .net? Cross Page, Transfer, or HttpRequest?
