MVC 2 - User Defined Database Connection?

Jun 16, 2010

I am looking to port my very basic DBMS software from classic ASP to ASP.net - however the user would need to input the connection details in order to connect to their specific DBMS server.

Is this at all possible with ASP.NET MVC (very similar to DSN-less connections in ASP).

C# - Connection Time Out After Being Idle For A While?

Apr 23, 2010

My ASP.NET website while trying to connect to the database for first time after a period of inactivity throws an time out exception.

I understand the connections in the connection pool get terminated after some idle time for some reason (Firewall or Oracle settings) and the pool or app doesn't have a clue about it.

Is there any way to validate the connection beforehand so that the first try doesn't throw an exception?
I don't have much control over the DB or Firewall settings. So I have to deal with this is my application.(would prefer if there is any web.config settings)

I am using: ASP.NET 2.0. Oracle server 11g, Microsoft Enterprise Library DAAB to do all my DB operations.

C# - Long Time To Load First Sql Connection In .NET?

Apr 9, 2010

For some reason it takes 7 seconds to open a connection to a sql server database for the firt time, subsequent connections takes a second.

I'm using C# and asp.net

Its after compilation, i essence every time i restart the site, which means every time it needs to actualy create the "first" connection. i understand that setting up connection pooling has overhead, but i have never seen that i should take 7 second to set it up.

Configuration :: Set Membership Connection String At Run Time?

Mar 22, 2010

This may be more of a general ASP.NET question although I'm not sure. My project is MVC 1.0 so I thought I'd post here. I've searched but found nothing specifically applicable.

I'm using the default membership/authentication functionality as provided by the MVC template. The requirement is that I allow the user to set the connection properties individually in the <appSettings> section of Web.config rather than as a single value in the <connectionStrings> section. I can easily enough retrieve the data and turn it into a connection string, but I can see no way to make use of it in code.

C# - Real-Time Database Update At Specified Time

Mar 31, 2011

Given a Database that has a table Called [Bid Transactions], which contains records of all available auctions that are currently running on an ASP.net website .. something similar to Ebay.com, when the deadline of the auction passed, I should close that auction, Send a notification message to both the item owner and the bidding winner to inform them.

how should I keep track of all open auctions? how could I monitor all their ending time and update the Auction status to be "Closed" on Real-time basis? ..

(1) Using SQL jobs ? .. that should reduce system performance .. shouldn't it ?

(2) A back-end service that is running on the server and uses Threading ? .. I have no clear background about that solution.

User Controls :: How To Insert Time Of Session End When User Closes The Browser

Jan 14, 2014

I have written a SP which maintains users log in and log out history,it works fine when any user logs in or clicks on log out, problem is that as per need its not to allowed  to keep the screen idle for 1 minute or more then in the log out column Null value is passed.

SP

Create proc usp_trackuserlogindetails
@username varchar(50) = null,
@command int = 0
as
BEGIN
if(@command = 0)
begin
insert into userlog (USERNAME,LOGIN,LOGOUT) values (@username,Getdate(),Null)

[Code] ....

Here when user manually clicks the log out button then 1(table above) is the output.

When user leaves the screen idle then after 1 minute the page goes to the Login.aspx page if the user tries to do something on the current page,here 2(table above) is the output can i store some hard core value instead of Null like Session expire or the exact session expires time.
