Web Forms :: WCF - When Connection Time Out In The Calling Client - How To Stop Service From Executing
Jun 16, 2010
I have a WCF service that processes some input arguments and retuns result in approximately 4 minutes. Sometimes the calling client may get request time out before the WCF service answers.
Now, my customer is asking me to stop processing on the service side when the client got timed out. Since, I could not know the status of cleint on the service, I could not stop the process.

I have a simple ASP .NET web service running and I want call it from a php client. I m using nusoap soap client.
The following is the client side php code:
<?php
require_once('lib/nusoap.php');
$wsdl="http://localhost:64226/Service1.asmx?wsdl";
$client=new soapclient($wsdl, 'wsdl');
$param=array('number1'=>'2', 'number2'=>'3');
echo $client->call('add',$param);
?>
The web methods I have created in web service are as follows:
namespace WebService3
{
/// <summary>
/// Summary description for Service1
/// </summary>
[WebService(Namespace = "http://tempuri.org/")]
[WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)]
[ToolboxItem(false)]
public class Service1 : System.Web.Services.WebService
{.........
However when I run the above php code it does not return the added value of the passed parameters. Instead it previews the word 'Arrays' I m not experienced in php programming. Am I doing something wrong the above codes?

I receive the following error, when trying to consume Wcf service:
"An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host". Consuming the service works fine when the host and the client are on the same machine. When I move the client to Hyper-V virtual machine (I didn't try it on a real computer) - it throws the error. Both firewalls are turned off Do you know what can cause such behaviour? Here are the details:
Both the client (hyper-v) and the service are on Windows server 2008 R2
Service url - http://wcftest/CalculatorService.svc (wcftest is the website and is mapped in the hosts file to localhost)
Service config:
[Code]....
Client config:
[Code]....
Are there any configuration settings which I'm missing?

firstly i am not really an ASP.Net developer but i do work in C#.
Anyway one of the application that i develop has an ASP.Net section and i need to amend it.
I want to add a Checkbox which when Checked by the User will set a Session variable.
This Session variable will then be accessed on another page where it will include/disclude some SQL and therefore change the behaviour of a Search.
So i have 2 Pages - Page1 that has the Checkbox on it -

I am having problem in diffrentitate error between internet connection loss error and Other Error in query for example: duplicate record found.
Both the error fall into System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException category.
But the way to handle both this 2 error is different.For connection error , i need to bring user to connection loss page while for duplicate record found error, i need to show the user a pop up.
Unless i do a checking exactly on the error message , else i have no ways to differentiate connection loss error and any other error. Am i correct for this?

I have written a console application which will map a volume as disk to a client machine and then Initializes, formats and assigns a drive letter.
Now i want to achieve the same through a web site. This is going to be a Internal site.Right now i can do this by executing the exe with a pop up from the website to run.
But i want to do the same operation as if it is a simple button click on the website after the user fills in the requirements like size,drive letter. I dont want to have any security pop ups.
Is there a way that i can do disk operations with out having security pop ups on end user machines?

I am having a problem with my try catch block runs in the error "dastabase is not available". My problem is the try catch runs and catches the error, but it will not redirect to my error page. The code continues to execute the other subs. I have tried adding: exit, return, response.end. None of them worked.

I want to ask the following:
Does anyone have an example of some code which executes an SSIS package from a ASP.NET web app using VB.NET?
I have built a web application and want to be able to execute the SSIS package when the user clicks a button on the web page.
So far I have:
[code]....
I need to know how to set this up so it runs remotely. I have searched MSDN (useless), [URL] and sqlservercentral.

say you have a table named 'Events' and in there is a list of items such as:
ID = 1
EventName = Staff Meeting
StartTime = 10/04/2010 10:30:00
EndTime = 10/04/2010 11:00:00
---
ID = 2
EventName = Customer Meeting
StartTime = 15/04/2010 13:00:00
EndTime = 15/04/2010 14:00:00
and so on (many more records). Now, whenever a record reaches its' end time, how can I execute SQL commands to delete that data (or mark as finished) and UPDATE another table?
This needs to be running constantly so I was thinking of building it into a Windows Service but can you suggest a better way of doing it?

I have a webpage with 6 drop down lists. User can start with selecting any drop down list first, and then proceed in any order. 1. Assume when the 1st dropdown is selected first, rest 5 drop downs (except 1st) are filtered/updated based on the selected value in the 1st dropdown.2. Assume user selects the 4th dropdown second, rest 5 drop downs (except 4th) will be filtered/updated but the condition would be based on both 1st drop down and 4th drop down. But while filtering the first drop down, only the 4th drop down is used as filter (self-filter will be ignored).
The code works fine but I see a very bad performance hit in time when the user selects the fourth dropdown after selecting three drop downs. I tried using both SQLDataAdapter and SQLDataReader but neither used to solve the issue. The code takes a lot of time on one line in either of the code (which is highlighted below). When I run the query in SQLServer Mgmt Studio, the query completes in a few seconds.

I need help calling a web service asynchronously. Current scenario is, I have a classic ASP page which does some processing and then redirects to a ASPX page which would call the wcf service asynchronously and then redirect to another classic ASP page. Im currently using the Asynchronous method to call the service with Async="true" included in the header. Testing the ASPX page induvidually it appears that the service call is asynchronous and does not wait for the the service to process data. But when integrating it with classic ASP page i.e ASP to ASPX to ASP it appears that the process takes a while as if the service call is synchronous.
So is there a better idea to use in calling a wcf service asynchronously. The idea behind my work flow is the ASPX page would be used to call the service and then the ASPX page would redirect back to the classic ASP page is came from. Let me know if there is a work around on how to call async wcf service in aspx page. I dont need the ASPX page to wait for a result or anything it is just used to call the WCF service async

We have an asp.net web service running on Windows Small Business Server 2008 SP2 (64-bit). It is in its own application pool. We've tried both Integrated and Classic settings for Managed Pipeline Mode. Enable 32-bit Applications is set to True. It is not able to successfully call a vb6 dll method but a Windows Forms app on the same machine can.Two vb6 dlls (A and B) are instantiated. The method in A is passed a reference to B as one of its parameters. That method then calls other methods within itself that also require the reference to B.Those internal method calls in A fail with this vb6 error (the A method logs these errors in the Windows Application event log):
70 (Permission Denied)
Another error is also logged in the Windows System event log:
The machine-default permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {xxx} to the user NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.The object in question (a third vb6 component which is an ActiveX EXE) has already been configured using DCOMCNFG (Component Services) with full Launch, Activation, and Access Permissions given to NETWORK SERVICE and even Everyone. Additionally, from Explorer, full control/permissions have been give to all required vb6 components to NETWORK SERVICE (tried Everyone too).
A Windows Forms application on the same machine is able to successfully call the method in A. The same web service works on another machine with a 32-bit OS.Both the web service and the Forms app have been built with Platform Target set to "x86".How can we get the web service call to work on the 64-bit machine?

I'm using Telerik's RadScheduler Control with WebService Binding.
I've used RadScheduler with Server Side Binding which has an event called "OnTimeSlotCreated" which fires every time when a particular time slot creates so that i can access the time slot and get the control (HtmlTableCell Control) to modify it according to the requirement.
But now i'm binding it from client side through WebService which has no such "onClientTimeSlotCreated" event, also these time slots are not having any identity at client side to access.

I'm using Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 Developer to create a website.
I'm trying to test a connectino to a local database in my computer.
What I did is create a connection string in the webconfig file like this:
[Code]....
Then I want to call that connection string like this in the default.aspx.cs file I write the following code:
[Code]....
I'm not getting any error or warning in any of the code but when I run the page I throws me an error telling me:
The connectionstring property has not been initialized.
If I run with debug on it shows this:
[Code]....
Line 22 in red.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong since VIsual Studio does not tell me there is an error, it just seems like it cannot make the connection.

I have a web application which is entirely .net 3.5. I have created a Setup project using the wizard making sure that I selected 3.5 from the targeted famework.
When I have built the setup.exe and the Windows Installer Package and I have tried to install it on a test machine it prompts straight away to download and install the .net framework 4 client profile first.
The end-user doesn't want to upgrade their servers at this time to the latest version of .net.

I've created a simple WCF service hosted by ASP.NET web site:
[Code]....
I can add references to this service as to WCF service, as to WebService.WcfTestClient application successfully recognized service and its methods.
But "Web Service Studio" [URL] can't get a list of operations... Why? How to diagnose/resolve that?
P.S. I work under VS 2008 using .NET 3.5

We have a custom Ajax checkbox control. In that control we set value (from inside the control) via a web service call (say WSCall1) to the business engine. There is also an event exposed on the OnClick of checkbox for the end user to have their custom code where the end user have their own web service call (say WSCall2). This event that end users will write is handled inside the ajax checkbox control on the "OnSuccess" of the internal web service call (i.e WSCall1) with an expectation that if WSCall1 succeeds, WSCall2 will get executed. This works fine with Firefox and Chrome but not in IE. In IE sometimes WSCall2 gets executed first and then WSCall1 -- actually there is no gurantee which web service gets called first. For WSCall1 we have used " Sys.Net.WebServiceProxy.invoke"
Is there a way we can make sure that WSCall2 gets only executed on the "OnSuccess" of WSCall1? Isn't the OnSuceess supposed to be executed when the WSCall1 thread returns?
