I have a question regarding the GridView and the Control Designer of it.
I've made a composite control inherited of the GridView. I would like to make some new created BoundField controls available in the designer of the GridView control? So that I can select the custom BoundField control from the Available fields list.
i would like to create custom columns in the GridView Control.For example:After performing SQL query, there are 4 columns bound to the control:
1. ID
2. Name
3. LA
4. LE
Now, for each row, I would like to add column5. Custom - which would read LA and LE values from each row, assign them to variables vLA and vLE respectfuly, and then, I'd take vLA and vLE to perform custom calculations every time the page is displayed.I know how to make a custom colum to display calculated result, butCan someone please help me how to read LA and LE values for each row?
I created a custom server control. The control works perfectly when added into a project. The issue I have though, is that in the designer - it shows the error --> "Error creating control - MyControl1 Object Reference not set to an instance of an object" The error is because I am using this code to load startup scripts

if i comment it out then the designer does not throw the object reference error so I know this is where the problem is. So here is my question: How can I get the designer to ignore the HttpContext.Current.Handler object for rendering puroposes?
I'm trying to develope a collapsible panel control with designer.
I have the following two classes:

In fact, the designer class is a copy of a sample class in MSDN and I only tried to customize it to work for me. I'm not sure if all methods are necessary or not.
I have the following two questions:
1- When I use this contrl in design mode, I can add or delete controls to it, in the html view, tags are not updated. so when I close the page and open it again, all changes are lost.
2- I have added this control to the same asp.net project that is using this control. Isn't there any way to have this controil in tool box?

I have programmatically created the Wizard control:

Based on List I get from Session i added new steps to my wizard To each step I had added a custom control
Each custom control in tern contains another custom Gridview Control in it.
So here's the problem when the page loads for example for two steps. All is good Wizard does what it's supposed to do.
But when I try to use sorting or paging in that custom Gridview. Somehow it displays the gridview I should see in the next step of the wizard.
Also what I'm noticing through debugging. Is that when I press next in the wizard I go back to the original page where I do all of the code specified above, and it recreates the wizzard. But it goes to the next step. Is this the way wizard supposed to work? Just doesn't seem very efficient.

I have a dropdownlistbox that pulls names from a database. When I select a name Gridview1 gets populated. Now I want to populate Gridview2 with more data when I click 'Select' link in Gridview1 but it's not working.
I am passing name (string) and number (number) fields to the gridview2 based on the gridview1.selectedvalue property and am seeing:
Input string was not in a correct format.
I have a custom control, inherited from Button. This is the class definition for the control and 2 properties:

The UserRol class is a typical class, without any special attributes.
I have discovered that when I use the custom editor for Roles property, the collection is not persisted. When I use the default editor for the collection, the collection is persisted.
I'm working on building a an ASP.NET composite control that is a wrapper for a GridView object. I have been able to figure out how compose the control in order for the markup to appear correctly when added to an ASPX page. Now the issue I'm having is that when I drop an instance of the control on a form from the toolbox, I can't interact with the control using the functionality exposed by a GridView (e.g. columns editor, data source selector, etc.), and I don't see any design-time rendering of the child GridView control. What I would like to do is to basically forward the designer behavior of my composite control down to its child GridView control. I have experimented with implementing a custom designer class that inherits from GridViewDesigner that simply initializes itself using the GridView child of my composite control. However, this doesn't seem to work, as I encounter an "object reference not set to an instance of object" error at design time; I'm wondering if this is even the appropriate strategy to achieve what I'm looking for. how to enable GridView-like design time behavior in composite controls. I have scoured the Web looking for articles on how this is accomplished, but I've surprisingly found virtually no resources on the topic.

View 1 RepliesI have a custom control that is based off the gridview control located at: here The control is basically a gridview that automatically creates a column of checkboxes that can be used to "check" individual rows in the gridview. During the gridview's "CreateColumns" event, the "checkboxcolumn" is created dynamically. The checkboxcolumn also contains another checkbox in the header that is used to "select/deselect all" checkboxes in the column. Since the gridview does not automatically remember the state of the checkboxes in the checkboxcolumn on postback, I added a method to the control called "SaveCheckBoxState" which stores the indexes of the checked rows in Viewstate, and then I modified the "OnRowDataBound" event to check the Viewstate and reset the checkboxes based on the Viewstate.
I then added a call to "SaveCheckBoxState" in the gridview's OnSorting and OnPageIndexChanging events. This works great so long as I'm sorting or changing pages. However, I need it to update the viewstate everytime someone clicks or unclicks one of the checkboxes. At this time, the checkboxes are rendered with an onclick event that calls some javascript to highlight the row, or in the case of the checkbox in the header, to select/deselect all checkboxes. I need to call the "SaveCheckBoxState" method from the javascript used by the customcontrol, or I need to find a way to modify viewstate from javascript and perform the same action as "SaveCheckBoxState".
I've tried adding the "SaveCheckBoxState" to the onclick event declaration in the checkboxes, but when run, it simply tells me that the method is undefined. It doesn't exist in the parent page, and I don't think I should have to make an event for the parent page to pass the click to. It seems to me this should be all self contained within the custom control. Does anyone know how I can acheive this? Here is the code for the gridview OnPreRender event where the onclick event of the checkbox is set:

However, I would like to have each DropDownList in each row have a different SelectedIndex set on default based on data already in the GridView.
View 1 RepliesI'm looking to build a user control where the user should be able to select N number of files for upload using the same "file/explorer" dialog/control. Currently, the FileUpload control enables a user to select only one file for upload. I have seen examples where people have modified this, so that uploaded files are stored in a list to provide a "mass upload" functionality. However, the user can select only one file at a time. This is NOT what I want, the user should be able to select multiple files at a time, or select a folder with which I should be able to upload all the children images. Is there any way I can do this or has someone done this already and i'm somehow missing it?

Is there a way for the user to set that variable in the properties window after they drag the control onto a form.
I know some .NET controls, you can set the source for the parameter to different things like another control's property, QueryString using just the properties window.
Right now, I have to create the control dynamically. I read the query string and then created the object.

created a Custom Textbox Control that is intended to be a "masked date" textbox, so that I can handle different ways a user might enter in a date and make it work no matter what.I did this by creating a custom control with 3 separate Textboxes one for month,one for day one for year,then do some handling for different things that could be entered and it would all work.
The problem I am having is,when I add this control to the page,if I do an alert to check the Text value of the custom control it just gives me "[ServerControl1]" even if I enter in a date.
I tried doing an AutoPostback after entering so that it would refesh the Viewstate to have the values of the textboxes but the control doesnt seem to actually postback, even though I have it enabled.accessing the Textbox value after someoen

i've created a webform with one gridview having connected with the database using datasource. i.e password database with three colomn .
