Lets say that i want to make a ADMIN page for articles.
1) I show all my articles on lines 2) Each article has an EDIT BUTTON and INSERT NEW button 3) When I click on the EDIT BUTTON, it opens a CUSTOM page where i can Edit my article. 4) When i click on the INSERT NEW BUTTON it opens the same CUSTOM page where i can Insert my article.
I was trying to do it with Gridview and Formsview.
I have a gridview that is populated on the Page_Load event if !PostBack is true. The gridview has several column, each header template has a custom control that I'm using to sort the data in a more efficient way than what the ASP.NET gridview offers.
These custom controls have an OnSort event, I have tried defining them in the markup (was always null after postback) and hooking them up each time the page is loaded (now works).
Basically on a page postback, the ViewState for the custom controls in the gridview are being 'lost'. This is a problem as I have a Sort Direction field that toggles between Asc and Desc, and I rely heavily on the ViewState to remember the last value. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong here? Or how I could change my code to keep the ViewState.
I have been reading alot about this and for some reason I am just not able to grasp the concept. Hopefully someone here can enlighten me.As an example situation I have a collection of strongly typed User objects that represent a database table, and some properties that represent its columns: UserID(PK), Username,FirstName,LastName, etc..Here are some of my requirements/goals:1. Users/Objects needs to be bound to the gridview programatically.2. I do not want to update the database right away, I only want the underlying collection to be updated. I would like to call the database update method myself when I am ready. 3. I do not want the primary key stored on the client side.Summary:So I bind a List<Users> to a gridview with the appropriate bound fields set up, I exlude bound fields such as primary key because I don't want it being changed/hacked by the client side. When I edit and update a row it is saved back to the collection of objects. I will iterate through the objects manually at a later time and commit them to database.
Questions:1. Can I cast a gridview row directly back to my object, in the RowUpdating or RowUpdated events? I am assuming I can't... So....2. How can I reference back my original collection if the gridview does not contain a primary key?3. Where do I store my collection, should it be in Session or should I recreate it on each postback?Sorry if any of this is confusing, let me know if you need clarification.
I'm using the 'Configure Data Source' wizard to connect to my database and show the dataset in Gridview. I want to be able to update, insert and delete entries but am unsure how to build the query. I can write simple update statments to change database entries but how can I do this for entries that have been changed within the gridview?
We are working in asp.net mvc in one of our project. This is first time we work on mvc. Previous we worked on Forms based development. In MVC we are facing some problem. Form based development there are so many control but in mvc there are no control. can anyone give us link of some control like gridview with insert update delete and some other tools that I can easily use in my project. We are using asp.net mvc 2.0.
How can I customize automatically generated command button, e.g. Delete?
I want to add a client confirmation on deleting and in the same moment I want this button would be generated on setting AutoGenerateDeleteButton="true". Is it possible??
I'm working on a project in which we have a database, data layer (entity framework), business layer and web/UI layer.I want to use ASP.NET Dynamic Data for the web layer, but don't want it to access the data layer or database, as I want it to be purely running off business logic, and not directly accessing the data. However, it appears that Dynamic Data only allows Linq-to-SQL or entity framework data sources to be used.Has anyone used it with business-layer objects instead?
im tryin to delete row from gridview without success. Im build the gridview using autogeneratecolumns=true and i get the name of the SQL table from the queryString using stored procedures the code is:
[Code]....
and the stored procedure:
[Code]....
How can i add delete button to delete rows from the gridview?
I want to apply INSERT < UPDATE < DELETE < SEARCH (you can apply searching outside gridview if u wish) in gridview by using XML File Provided above as a data source ...
For your ease here's a link : INSERT UPDATE DELETE IN GRIDVIEW USING XML
What I'm trying to do is rather basic, but I might have my facts mixed up. I have a details page that has a custom class as it's Model. The custom class uses 2 custom objects with yet another custom object a property of one of the 2. The details page outputs a fair amount of information, but allows the user to post a comment. When the user clicks the post button, the page gets posted to a Details action that looks something like this:
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Details(VideoDetailModel vidAndComment) { ....} [Code]....
The only fields on the form that is posted are CommentText and VideoId. Here is what the VideoDetailModel looks like.
public class VideoDetailModel { public VideoDetailModel() { [Code].... I suppose if I added more form fields for the properties I need, they would get posted, but I only need 1 form entry field for the CommentText. If I could get the same Model objects value that were sent to the page to post with the page, it looks like the solution is rather simple. I think using the RenderPartial in the middle of a form is problematic somehow to how the form gets written in html. I can't really put my finger on why things went bonkers, but if I do my RenderPartials before my form and then begin my form with the text entry field and the hidden VideoId, the default ModelBinder works just fine. I was beginning the form, writing the hidden VideoId, rendering several partial views, create my CommentText field, and then closed the form out. The CommentText field would get bound just fine. The hidden VideoId would not. Maybe I missed a rule somewhere about using RenderPartial.
For completeness, the partial view I was rendering took a Comment object and just wrote out it's CommentText data. Several of these objects would exist for a single Video object. All of this data was in a custom type and passed into the View (the main view) as it's Model. This partial view did not have a form and did not have any data entry fields.
How to insert images into database and how to retrive and bind images to gridview using ASP.NET . After displaying gridview data i want to edit data with Image also using ASP.NET with Database.
how to insert, update, delete row in gridview without saving in database ?suppose 1 textbox,1 button and 1 gridview .textbox and button outside of gridview.
I've created a custom gridview control with a custom datacontrolfield as well, which enabled me to have textboxes in the headercells of the gridview so I can filter each column value.
Now I've added textboxes to the footer row as well so I can allow users to insert data directly from the grid.
As you can see, I added an Insert and Cancel button in the footer row. Then I have my custom column. Now in the rowdatabound event of the grid, i'm trying to hook up the linkbutton click event to a handler:
Code: Protected Sub nsGrvContainer_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles nsGrvContainer.RowDataBound Select Case e.Row.RowType Case DataControlRowType.Footer Dim lbInsert As LinkButton = CType(e.Row.FindControl("lbInsertCN"), LinkButton) AddHandler lbInsert.Click, AddressOf odsContainerNumber_Inserting End Select
I find the control fine, but the click event never fires.
I can open the modalpopup, can close the popup, but if i click the "edit" button to edit any of rows, the popup closes automatically. If I click again, the "Update" and "Cancel" buttons shows, and after clicking one of those, popup closes again. The above code works, if i use gridview the insert, edit or delete the data, does not close automatically. What may be the cause of this problem.
