C# - Handling The Submit Action Of Two TextBoxes?
Oct 29, 2010
I have an ASP.net page. That has an Ajax Toolkit Tab Control.hat has tabs.That have custom ascx controls I wrote.I have a text box that perform a search action. It is declared like this:
<asp:TextBox ID="txtPrereqSearch" runat="server"
ontextchanged="txtPrereqSearch_TextChanged"></asp:TextBox>
Nothing fancy. This format has been working for months. There's no submit button. It just posts back when I hit enter. The problem appeared when I added a second custom control using the same type of feature. Now browsers don't postback when I type something in either of these textboxes and press enter.It seems that browsers have a default way of handling one textbox in one form, but that behavior changes when the number reaches two.Is there an easy way around this? I guess I can create a hidden submit button but it seems like there is probably a better way to deal with this when the functionality is in two separate custom controls.

I need to create application wide error handling mechanism. I was evaluating Action Filter for that matter. But- Action filter will just exectute against actions/controller- what about error at custom view engine or Extension method for HTML helper.: to handle them i need to implement traditional Asp.net mechanismCan anyone suggest best common approach which can handle error for all Controller, View, Model or custom helpers if any.

I am new to this MVC and have a basic question related to validation. I have a create view for customer and based on the customer entity partial class metadata, I am validating the user input and its working fine as expected when the user clicks the create button.I also have a search button in the same create view, which is used for auto generation of some of the field values. When the user clicks the search button the action method create (post) is called with the corresponding button value as argument.the issue here is when the user clicks the search button most of the user input fields will be blank and the validation fails because of that.

I currently have a project that I seem to have ran into an issue regarding Roles and thought I would get some opinions on how to best handle the problem. The system will require editable, flexible roles that control not only the access of specific areas, but also the use of system functions (Adding Users, Editing Users, Viewing Reports etc.)The system currently allows users to have multiple roles, each of those roles has explicitly defined areas of access/actions, for example:
Role A can access areas 1,2,3 and can Add Users.
Role B can access areas 1,5,7 and can Modify Users.
Role C can access areas 4,6 and only View Users.
so a User could be in Roles A and C, and thus access : 1,2,3,4 and 6, and could Add and View Users.My first solution was to create a dictionary that would store all of the possible areas of access/access options into a Dictionary like so:
Dictionary<string,bool>
then when it is instantiated it pulls all of the properties from the database and then iterates through the roles to determine if they are accessible.All of that currently works just fine - however the project is quite Javascript/jQuery intensive so many of these options are called by client-side functions. I am trying to avoid having to wrap all of these client side functions with:
<%if(AccessDictionary[key])
//Enable or Disable Action
<%}%>
I am wondering about the following things: After a user logs in, what is the best way to store this Dictionary? Statically? In the Session?What would be the best method of storage such that the Dictionary will be easily accessed in the View? (As I currently see no way around wrapping my client-side functions)!

I am currently trying to make an html submit occur, but using the MVC helper method ActionLink as I do not want it to be a button, I want it to be an underlined link like the rest on my page. This is what I have currently
[Code]....
This jumps back to my action fine, but all the domains that are checked off to be deleted are not sent back. (if I use this,
[Code]....
it works fine so I know it's not something wrong with submitting or retrieving the check boxes)

In the view I have a HTML button:
<input type="submit" value="Submit" />
Also I have a dropdownlist, how do I call the controller's action after I click the "Submit" button?
And how do I pass the Model back to the controller action as well?
The reason I want to pass back the model (or other object/class) to controller's action is I might have 5 dropdown lists and 3 edit boxes values to be sent as parameters. So I would like to assign these parameters into a object and send it back to controller's action.

Having alot of startup issues with MVC - I really like the idea behind it all, and the way it works, but still lacking some essential skills, WebForms is much more natural to me. Just to simplify my problem.
I have a "Blog" page with "Posts" which needs a "Comments" systems. In my blog view "/Post/Details/{id}" I'm showing all data for the "Post" model. So at the bottom I need to loop and display all comments, this is fine:
[Code]....
Now I want a form/input where you can submit a new comment. This is the problem, how do I implement that, tried everything! How do I catch that form submit in Details action in my PostController?

I have a web form called default.aspx which has a form with user information. In addition to this, I have an iFrame on the same page that displays a page Secondary-Form.aspx that has a few additional dynamic data fields. I need to do two things.
1. I need to pass the parent form data in real time to the iFrame page to refresh its content and modify it's fields accordingly. Example: If the user submits their Vehicle Choice as Car on parent form, the form item in iFrame will display a radio button that says Honda, and if the user submits their Vehicle Choice as MotorCycle in the parent page, the iFrame will display Harley Davidson as the radio button choice
2. The submit button is on the parent page. I want both pieces of this information (from the parent page, as well as iFrame selection) to be passed to a server side ASPX page to process this information.the default.aspx and Secondary-Form.aspx files are located on different domains.

I have a repeater which is binded using a Collection of Entity Data Framework.
Once the repeater is binded using the datasource, the user can control the no of rows present in the repeater using a Dropdown list on the page. For ex: if datasource has 2 rows, user want to add 3 more rows, user selects 5 from dropdown, which adds 3 additional rows to the Repeater. I am able to do this.
The repeater has textbox controls in each row. Now once the user enter the values in this textbox of the newly generated rows, the user can save the values entered with the no of rows specified.
I have a button which is outside the repeater and on click of this i need to validate all the textbox values and save them into dB accordingly.
Here is my code
Repeater.aspx
[Code]....
[Code]....
Repeater.aspx.cs
[Code]....
Right now the problem is im not able to fetch the values of the textboxes present in the newly generated rows.

I'm implement Comet in Asp.net MVC, I used timer to keep Async request in server, Async request will complete when timer elapsed 1 minute and response to client (to avoid 404 error) and then reconnect to Async Controller. I also wanna execute some Synchronous action during Async request was holding, but the problem is: When an Async action was executed and hold by using timer, the Sync Action wasn't called until Async action (comet long-live request) completed. I did test with firefox 3.6 many times, but the result is the same, so strange, Do you know why ? I have a sub some questions : To implement comet, using timer (response after some minutes elapsed) or thread (response after several time sleeping thread) to hold async request, which is better?

Lets say I have a simple controller for ASP.NET MVC I want to test. I want to test that a controller action (Foo, in this case) simply returns a link to another action (Bar, in this case).How would you test TestController.Foo? (either the first or second link)
My implementation has the same link twice. One passes the url throw ViewData[]. This seems more testable to me, as I can check the ViewData collection returned from Foo(). Even this way though, I don't know how to validate the url itself without making dependencies on routing.The controller:
public class TestController : Controller
{
public ActionResult Foo()[code].....

I've been using Html.Action("ActionName", "ControllerName") to invoke child actions across controllers without needing to have the view in ViewsShared. This has been working great for displaying things like session or cookie information.
Instead of just accessing cookies, I would like to pass additional parameters to Html.Action("ActionName", "ControllerName") so the action can execute different code based on the the data passed to the original view.
Should I be using a different method to pass parameters to a child action in a different controller?

I'm trying to add file upload functionality to a page. I've got a form that posts the selected file to a controller with a 'savefile' method. But if I don't add a get version of 'savefile' I'll get a 404 error. Here is the form code which is presented on the Index page:
[Code]....
And here is the controller code:
[Code]....
Intuitively I don't think I should need a GET version of SaveFile but if omit it I get a 404 error when the form posts. Why should I need a GET version of SaveFile when all I want is to post a form and save the file?

I have a controller with a bunch of actions as such:
[Code]....
I'm looking for a way to find out which action invoked the other: for instance, when redirecting to Action1, I need to know whether it is coming from clicking "next" button at Action0 or clicking "back" button at Action2. This is is to avoid performing Action1 twice (My app is like a wizard, if I click back button at Action2, I don't want to execute Action1 again).
