C# - How To End The Session And Make Sure The Logged Out Process Is Correct
Jul 29, 2010
I new to .aspx and now the thing is since i am doing a web enabled project, I have this login from an user. I drag dropped the login template and then used the
Session["Authentication"] = username.Tostring();
to store the current logged user's info and so. Now i even used a hyperlink "Logout" at the top right corner and then made it transfer to Login page.
Now if on running the web , i can easily login , but when i logout through hyper link "logout" it will take me to the Login page again, but if i press the back button of the browser it again transfers the control to the data page and i can again perform the data operation's.
I used this
Session["Authenticate"] = null
at the page load of the login page so that only at the login button click the user can enter again by
Session["Authenticate"] = username.Tostring();
Then i used a check at each page load of the data pages
After login, i have create a session to display the Username of the logged user, however instead of display the Username, i want to display the Full_Name of the logged user
I have this particular problem all over my current code, but I not sure the way to correctly deal with it. All I am trying to do is set the function as a structure and return the structure depending on the values.I can see why this is not setting the structure values in all cases. This works as well if I remove the return part of the function, but then I get a different error.If I add a line at the top setting the getVirtualURls to nothing then it works, BUT .. I am not sure of the correct way to deal with this example. I mean in performance and also in clean code.example would be great :-)
I'm building a web application: some pages will be accessible by non logged-in users (demo and sign-up pages) and others will only be accessible by logged-in users (actual application). In the global.asax file, I'm currently handling the session start event by loading some variable from a query that's based on the UserID. What will happen when a non-logged in user looks at a page? I guess my question is really about how to handle the session start event when it's a logged-in user, when it's not and when a user logs in. I want a certain number of queries to run only once per session, after the user logged in.
My 3.5 app uses Forms Authentication. I create an authentication cookie (ticket) with an expiration date of one day. The cookie's IsPersistent is set to True. I do not use any session variables. Session timeout is the default 20 minutes.
Here's the problem:
When the session times out in 20 minutes, the user is redirected to the logon page even though the authentication cookie has not expired.
Why does this happen? I thought the session and the cookie were independent of each other.
I created asp.net application on alumni information database.After logged in it redirects to page i wish but the problem is the page i am redirected is not holding the user logged information. it just simply showing as annonymus user.
My web application uses forms authentication. One of my users who uses IE8 says that she always stays logged into the website on her computer. This is even after she closes the browser window and restarts the computer. This only happens on her computer, if she switches computers the same thing won't happen.
I'm baffled by this. Is there a setting in IE that could save her login information and automatically sign her in every time she accesses the website? Is there anything else to look into?
I am working on a asp.net 3.5 app. In the Global.asax in the Application_Error method, I am logging everthing to ddatabase (log4Net).
I have a session limit of 20 minutes. What happens when the user hits that limit and then clicks on the Submit Button of the app. ?Will that generate any exception? and will that exception be logged into my database as I am logging all exceptions in my Application_Error method.
I'm wondering if it's possible to perhaps set something up in the global.asx file or something that will build a list of all currently active user sessions that I can then use to display to a logged in user, who else is currently logged in.
Currently I store my userId's in a session variable Session["IsLoggedIn"], so basically i want to build an global array of some sort that will store all these active userId's.
Let me know if this is possible, or who i would go about accomplishing this sort of thing. BTW, I'm not using asp.net's built in membership thing for login accounts.
it is possible to change dynamically the session time for currently logged user. I'm communicating with a WebService which does a long-running task, and while the it sends the final response, I don't want the user to be logged out.
I have taken up a project at work that was left half finished by the last guy that used to work here, it involves choosing a country, region and town from some drop down lists this is all done in Javascript which leaves this as a problem for me so now I need to retrieve the value of the townID that is stored in a hidden value, I tried this by putting the townID value inside a session and then on postback (after clicking the button) I wanted to parse the session value to retrieve the correct article, but I receive the following error:
Value cannot be null. Parameter name: String Here is what I am doing with the code (on the button): [Code].... (Postback) [Code].... This is the code I am using, the TownID is coming out null!
i am using icrosoft.Office.Interop.Excel to read the excel file datas. i need to kill the "EXCEL" process if any runtime error occur or any other "EXCEL" process running before read the excel data. I am using this code to kill the process.
private void KillProcess(string processName) { system.Diagnostics.Process myproc = new System.Diagnostics.Process(); //Get all instances of proc that are open, attempt to close them. try { foreach (System.Diagnostics.Process thisproc in System.Diagnostics.Process.GetProcessesByName(processName)) { if (!thisproc.CloseMainWindow()) { //If closing is not successful or no desktop window handle, then force termination. thisproc.Kill(); } } // next proc } catch (Exception Exc) { throw Exc; } }
Now, My question is if the multiple users running the web application with different sessions then it cause problem right. because this method close all the "Excel" process that are currently running. how to kill the excel process for the particular session.
i want to generate the new sessionid in the same httpcontext once the user is successfully authenticated.so, how can i do that ? ( please dont ask why do you want it, i got such kind of requirement).
I would like to know if the way i'm dealing with session variables is the right way, and also how to fix this error i'm getting: FormatException: Input string was not in a correct format.
Have not run the ASP.NET Development Server for a while. Today I copied a production website to my workstation and ran it with VS 2008. The following error message popped up. What is the problem with the ASP.NET development Server on my workstation? The website on the Production server still ran okay.Unable to make the session state request to the session state server. Please ensure that the ASP.NET State service is started and that the client and server ports are the same. If the server is on a remote machine, please ensure that it accepts remote requests by checking the value of KEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesaspnet_stateParametersAllowRemoteConnection. If the server is on the local machine, and if the before mentioned registry value does not exist or is set to 0, then the state server connection string must use either 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' as the server name.
I think I summed up the question in the title. Here is some further elaboration...I have a web user control that is used in multiple places, sometimes more than once on a given page.The web user control has a specific set of JavaScript functions (mostly jQuery code) that are containted within *.js files and automatically inserted into page headers.However, when I want to use the control more than once on a page, the *.js files are included 'n' number of times and, rightly so, the browser gets confused as to which control it's meant to be executing which function on.What do I need to do in order to resolve this problem? I've been staring at this all day and I'm at a loss.
I have a web application which uses a session variable to store the logged in userid. If no user is logged in, of course this variable will be empty and the contents displayed on my website are meant for guests. If there is a user logged in, the user specific controls/access/links will then be a displayed.
I am now having issues with my hosting where on shared application pool, the worker recycle is triggered every 90 minutes, this will clear sessions causing all my users to be logged out. I opted for a dedicated application pool, which got worse because I am only allocated 50MB memory limit and if this is reached, the worker recycle is triggered and I lose my sessions again. I have tried as much as possible optimization techniques, e.g. dispose where possible, close connections, disable viewstate for static controls etc but my memory per instance keeps building up from page to page without any signs of improvement. I don't use loops nor store huge objects like bitmaps etc but my sessions are now gone even faster than 90 minutes in shared application pool before.
I have considered using SQL Session State but there isn't a simple guide on using this with MySQL. I am getting desperate and considering using a public variable, a string as a replacement to store logged in user id instead of in a session variable. I am pretty sure this will solve my issue with sessions being recycled but are there any negative consequences of doing this? One problem I can think of is if the user closes the browser, the system will never know that the user is now logged out and this public variable should be nothing. In this scenario, will the GC eventually clear this abandoned public variable.
Many web applications use sessions to check the logged in status of the users. Is there a better approach to check the logged in status instead of using session state?
I'm looking at a pure ReSTful approach where is no session state at all. This may make more sense in an mvc application rather than an asp.net application.
I am doing a workshop , it has questions, and answers with radiobuttons, I need that when a click is made on a radiobutton a message appears saying that it is correct or it is not correct, how can a do it,
I am using 3 tables and are trying to get the correct info belonging to the correct id. Like this: I go to a page and here i want to see the information from the 3 tables using a specific id.
I have written this so far in a query:
[Code]....
My problem is that the last line does not work and i am uncertain how to make this work? How to write it correctly that is.
If I watch the processes tab in Task Manager on the web server I see "cmd.exe" under the context of 'administrator' but it just hangs. For test purposes c:SendV80s.bat: copy c: oot.ini c:zzz.txt
If I logon onto the webserver's console and execute SendV80s.bat it works and exits without issue. But when I execute the same batch file via the Submit button it gets stuck executing in Task Manager/Process. I believe this has something to do with the fact that cmd is not running in a full environment/desktop context. I just noticed this on the actual console of the webserver (not in my RDP console but console 0 instead)
A pop-up box stating: CMD.exe Application error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application. And when I click on the OK button my ASPX page's WaitForExit is satisfied and the continues processing normally.
