C# - How To Pass Credentials To Httpwebrequest For Accessing SharePoint Library
Mar 4, 2011
I try to read a file from SharePoint document library through httpwebrequest. For that I have to pass the credentials. So How should I pass the creadentials.
I have a php website with a login page containing username and password fields with the same exact html names. I would like to have a page in my ASP.NET page with a username and a password textbox field that sends the corresponding credentials to the php website using HttpWebRequest. How would I do that and how could I check the response to see if the authentication has been successful?
1) I have an ASP.NET website which is the main entry point in the application. This website uses Forms authentication, which validates credentials (username/password) against a database. 2) Once logged on the website, the user is displayed a page containing several links which point to a Sharepoint 2007 application, where authentication is managed by an Active Directory. 3) Every user in the Active Directory is duplicated in the database managing the ASP.NET website authentication.
I want to open a native SharePoint 2010 page from my application (for example the Edit Properties page of a document) without the need to enter username/password, but instead to authenticate silently (prior or during the page request). is that possible? In other words, i have a windows forms application, i enter a sharepoint document path and i click on a button, this will open up a windows form with a browser control that will navigate to the native "editform.aspx" sharepoint 2010 page for this document.
Being new to integrating sharepoint documents into web applications I am struggling with the following task, so anyI have a page in my web application that needs to display a document from sharepoint.I use the appropiate sharepoint web service to get a list of all the documents in the sharepoint list, I then pick out the one I would like to retrieve and get the path to the document so i would end up with something like:
Company%20Hire/Hire%20Site%20Price%20Lists/0.pdf Within our network I can do following: iframePdf.Attributes[ "src"] = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SharepointUrl"] + _filePath;
This would display the document in iframe... problem I have is coming from outside the network the sharepoint site can't be accessed (due to firewalls etc). We do have a vpn back to our network on the external server our web application sits on. If i was to use the document url in a browser on the server I am prompted for credentials and then get to view the document. Is there a way for the web application to use the vpn, use credentials i give (e.g through impersonation) to access the document and display it to exernal clients?
how to adding a file to the sharepoint document library? I found some articles in net. but i didn't get the complete concept of the same. Now i uploaded a file without metadata by using this code.
[Code]....
This code is working as fine. But i need to upload file with meta data. I created 3 columns in my Document library..
currently investigating SharePoint for our company as a means to make Excel processing accessible through our web application without relying on the Office Interop DLL files. (our sysadmin doesnt want to install Office on the production server, for good reason)I'm aware that Sharepoint has an Excel Webservice that can be enabled and used by the application. The problem, if it is a problem, is that I need to make a class that wraps all the logic for transforming an Excel into HTML.So I need to add the references to this webservice to the application.
But what if we need to deploy the application with a customer that has no SharePoint server available, will this cause a problem in the application? We will use checks to make stuff visible and invisible depending on whether a parameter is set, but I'm looking for a means to ensure that I can for example add the required references at runtime when I need them for Sharepoint.
I am using webclient object to download a file to a windows folder from a sharepoint document library. The credentials I am passing to the webclient object are that of site collection administrator. everything works fine while i test it by uploading a file to the document library. But since the document library is email enabled; when an email is received the file is not transferred to the windows folder. i have put some workflow history events to see which user account is used when the email is received. the user account shown is the network service account. I have given write permissions on the folder to all the users; Everyone, Network service, the site collection administrator user etc. but still i cant figure out what is the problem.
A client is unable to use my webpart because he is behind a proxy server and they need to specify a username and password to get past the proxy. I have this in my config file right now:
We have created an ASP.NET web app that upload files to WSS Doc Libary. The files get added under 'SYSTEM ACCOUNT' in the library. The FullTextSqlQuery class is used to search the document libary items. But it only searches files that has been uploaded by a windows user account like 'Administrator' and ignores the ones uploaded by 'SYSTEM ACCOUNT'. As a result the search results are empty even though we have the necessary data in the document library. What could be the reason for this? The code is given below:
public static List GetListItemsFromFTSQuery(string searchText) { string docLibUrl = "http://localhost:6666/Articles%20Library/Forms/AllItems.aspx"; List items = new List(); DataTable retResults = new DataTable(); SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate { using (SPSite site = new SPSite(docLibUrl)) { SPWeb CRsite = site.OpenWeb(); SPList ContRep = CRsite.GetListFromUrl(docLibUrl); FullTextSqlQuery fts = new FullTextSqlQuery(site); fts.QueryText = "SELECT Title,ContentType,Path FROM portal..scope() WHERE freetext('" + searchText + "') AND (CONTAINS(Path,'"" + ContRep.RootFolder.ServerRelativeUrl + ""'))"; fts.ResultTypes = ResultType.RelevantResults; fts.RowLimit = 300; if (SPSecurity.AuthenticationMode != System.Web.Configuration.AuthenticationMode.Windows) fts.AuthenticationType = QueryAuthenticationType.PluggableAuthenticatedQuery; else fts.AuthenticationType = QueryAuthenticationType.NtAuthenticatedQuery; ResultTableCollection rtc = fts.Execute(); if (rtc.Count > 0) { using ( ResultTable relevantResults = rtc[ResultType.RelevantResults]) retResults.Load(relevantResults, LoadOption.OverwriteChanges); foreach (DataRow row in retResults.Rows) { if (!row["Path"].ToString().EndsWith(".aspx")) //if (row["ContentType"].ToString() == "Item") { using ( SPSite lookupSite = new SPSite(row["Path"].ToString())) { using (SPWeb web = lookupSite.OpenWeb()) { SPFile file = web.GetFile(row["Path"].ToString()); items.Add(file.Item); } } } } } } //using ends here }); return items; }
My scenario is this - I have two ASP.net websites. Both sites run on the same machine and I have implemented single sign on relatively simply using the default asp.net membership provider (Forms based authentication).I have a new WCF service on one site, which will be called from the other site. A user will be logged into the site, but the call to the service will be made from the codebehind following a postback. Can somebody point me in the right direction so that I can pass through the Forms based credentials of the logged in user to the WCF service on the other site? Presently it's passing the NETWORKSERVICE windows credentials.
We have created a website and for the secured files created a virtual directory and in virtual directory properties we selected Application-user(pass through authentication). If any user directly browse the files link then the browser prompts a screen for virtual directory credentials. Here my requirement is i need to send the virtual directory credentials through the application.
I have an asp.net 2.0 web application that will run on the same web servers as SharePoint Server 2007. The application should run in its own App Pool (IIS 6.0). The Web Application needs to call the SharePoint Object model API.
Is there a resource that explains the required configuration / security settings and other considerations? It is possible that I need to make some settings in SharePoint Admin Console itself; aswell as config files. Script files might need to be located in a specific location in order to be accessible. Assemblies may need to be signed.
I can only get partial success running my Web application. But only if it is deployed to a Virtual Directory that resides under the SharePoint Website (in IIS & File system). Even with this setup, I JQuery / Javascript throw errors when accessed (object null); and also images not loading.
I have made some changes to the Web applicaton web.config file which have allowed me to run the application albeit the above mentioned issues with scripts and images (Virtual directory properties also set to allow scripts and executables to run). Ajax functionality appears to work OK.
I'm developing an ASP.NET user control in VS2008 that writes to a SQL Server 2005 database. I've published the control to a SharePoint 2007 MOSS page using the SmartPart addon. The control consists of a few text fields and a submit button that writes the contents of the text fields to the database. When I test the control in the Visual Studio debugger, it works fine. When I try to submit data from the SharePoint page, I get the error shown at the end of this post. Last time I saw this, it was a database permissions error, but I've granted my site's default application pool read/write access to my database. Does anyone have any idea what else the problem might be? Also, how can I double-check the credentials that the SharePoint page is using to access the database, since I still suspect that this is a permissions issue?

I have one C# windows class library type project which has a web reference whose settings are automatically added in to settings.settings file( Webservice name, type, scope, value).
I also have one separate ASP.net project which has let us as suppose, one page with a button. When I click this button, it calls a method of referred DLL of previous project and control goes there.
When in that project, when control goes in to location where I use this web reference, it tries to get the URL of web reference from settings file and raises an exception - 'The current configuration system does not support user-scoped settings'.
So, What is the way for me to call a c# project having web service in a asp.net project ? This is really a source stopper for our development.
Is it possible to bypass the NT challenge login, and just have a standard webform login, then authenticating programtically as that user and passing those credentials manually to my connection string so that the database sees me as that user?
For the sake of client-side performance, it's best to minimize the number HTTP requests to load a page. Is it possible to combine the contents of all Javascript files stored in the "Style Library" such that the client only has to make one request instead traditionally, a request for each Javascript file?
I have two Picture Libraries. One has pictures and the other contains the thumbnails created programmatically by me. I am displaying the thumbnails into a custom webpart. I need to display the original pictures on mouseover on the thumbnails displayed in webpart and the originals displayed should dissappear on mouse out.
I have a control in a 'window control library' which handles - 'drag and drop' files from computer to a listbox control, I then reference this .dll in .aspx (See code below). Now, when i try to access this through webserver for drag and drop files i get following errror - The type of the first permission that failed was : System.Security.Permission.FileIOPermission.
How do I handle this, so that drag and drop of files can happen over the webpage residing at webserver.

I'm working on an ASP.NET project for the first time in about three years; in the meantime I've been working with Python/Django, PHP and Obj-C. Anyways, picked it right back up... except something that is totally killing me right now, and I have a feeling it must be staring me in the face:
I'm trying to bind to an LDAP server, for the purpose of authenticating users. The way it works here is, you bind on your own credentials, use that to find the Distinguished Name of the user you're authenticating, then you bind again on their DN and their password. If the bind is successful, the password was correct and the user can be authenticated.
Here's the problem - the first bind (on the fixed credentials, the ones with the ability to search for users and their subtrees) works fine. The search works fine. The second bind fails, no matter what, with the LDAP error INVALID_CREDENTIALS. This happens even when completely valid credentials are supplied.
Here's the code, with the usernames and passwords redacted, of course...
My WCF Client calls my WCF Service which then calls ASMX Web Service. The problem is i have configured my wcf client and wcf service to windows credentials type but when wcf service calls asmx service the user credentials (default windowsidentity) is not passed to asmx service.
In WCF Service i am able to get user identity by using : Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name; WCF Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication. ASMX Web Service - i have disabled anonymous access and enabled windows authentication. WCF Service Config [Code]....
