Authentication - Share Credentials Between Website And SharePoint 2007

Jan 4, 2011

1) I have an ASP.NET website which is the main entry point in the application.This website uses Forms authentication, which validates credentials (username/password) against a database. 2) Once logged on the website, the user is displayed a page containing several links which point to a Sharepoint 2007 application, where authentication is managed by an Active Directory. 3) Every user in the Active Directory is duplicated in the database managing the ASP.NET website authentication.

How To Share Authentication Context Between A SharePoint 2010 Site And Applications

Is it possible to share the claims based authentication of a logged in Sharepoint 2010 user with a separate application?

The following article describes how it was done using Sharepoint 2007 and forms authentication through forms auth and sharing machine keys etc however I cannot find any information regarding the external application consuming the claims authentication that is now used in Sharepoint 2010?

VS 2008 - Sharepoint 2007 Development

May 6, 2010

My customer has a sharepoint 2007 server installation where they show a simple GUI. They want me to develop a webpart for displaying the top 10 most critical service arrends and add this to their "start" sharepoint webpage. The data is available through a stored procedure, and the gui could be as simple as a repeater. BUT, how do I make this as a webpart in sharepoint. This means I want to drag and ppsition it anywhere I want on the sharepoint GUI. I have worked with for 5 years, but never touched sharepoint.

I did some googling on the topic but what i found was very cumbersome, they said I needed to have sharepoint installed locally. Thats just not possible in the current environment. Surely its not that difficult. Can't I just develop a standard webpart and import it somehow into sharepoint?

Custom Master Pages In WSS3.0 / SharePoint 2007 DOC TYPE?

Mar 23, 2011

I have a custom master page that I use in WSS3.0 (SharePoint 2007) and I am using a HTML 'DOC TYPE' which I am declaring at the top of the master page. The site all works very well with my master page apart from some of SharePoint controls which are acting a little funny, namely the People Picker for a People and Group field.If I remove the DOC TYPE declaration then the People Picker and other controls work perfectly and behave as they should but it sends some of my customisations/layout all over.

Before I spend a lot of time reviewing fixing the issues I get to my design without having the DOC TYPE declared, does anyone know if there is a certain DOC TYPE that is compatible with WSS3.0 / SharePoint 2007 and all of its features (i.e. People Picker Fields)?

C# - Dynamic Master Pages In SharePoint 2007 Publishing Sites?

Sep 1, 2010

I'm trying to do dynamic switching of the master page in SharePoint 2007 publishing site.

I'm following this example which uses a HTTP Module [URL]

Here is my code

public class SwitchMasterPage : IHttpModule
public void Dispose()

Everything is working fine when the current page type is an Application Page, however when the page type is a Publishing page (e.g. BlueBand.master) the page_PreInit procedure is never called - it is still being registered with the event handler though.

Security :: How To Access Network Share On Domain By Using An AD Account Credentials

Apr 23, 2010

I've been researching and I've spent pratically all day on this. Here's my issue. The website uses forms authentication that we authenticate against active directory. I've been attempting to access files we have on a network share and push them down to the user (when they request them) in an http response. I keep getting "Access to the path <unc path> is denied".

Here's the code:

Things I've tried:1) When I add the "Computer" to the permissions of the folder it works and I dont even need to emulate a user (essentially just commenting out this code), but I'm not sure we want to explicitly give the computer access to some of our network shares 2) I've verified it's the correct username and password for the active directory account and that they have permissions on these network shares 3) I've fooled around with the WebProxy class with no luck (as I'm not entirely familiar with it) 4) I've tried impersonating the user by creating a windows token and passing the token as credentials (i've done this with similar websites) with no luck, plus this seemed a bit complicated for something I figured would be relatively easy.Its almost as if, the WebClient class isn't even using the credentials i've passed it.We've got it working now, but only by giving the "Computer" specific permissions on the network shares, which we'd like to avoid.

C# - How To Integrate Sharepoint Document Into Web Application And Adding Credentials For External Users

Sep 9, 2010

Being new to integrating sharepoint documents into web applications I am struggling with the following task, so anyI have a page in my web application that needs to display a document from sharepoint.I use the appropiate sharepoint web service to get a list of all the documents in the sharepoint list, I then pick out the one I would like to retrieve and get the path to the document so i would end up with something like:

Within our network I can do following:
"src"] = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["SharepointUrl"] + _filePath;

This would display the document in iframe... problem I have is coming from outside the network the sharepoint site can't be accessed (due to firewalls etc). We do have a vpn back to our network on the external server our web application sits on. If i was to use the document url in a browser on the server I am prompted for credentials and then get to view the document.Is there a way for the web application to use the vpn, use credentials i give (e.g through impersonation) to access the document and display it to exernal clients?

C# - Can Reuse Built-in IIS Authentication But Provide Own Credentials Checking

Feb 14, 2011

I'd like to use built-in IIS authentication with non-Windows accounts. There's this module that does that for basic authentication, but it in fact does both the authentication and credentials checking.The problem is I also need to support digest authentication and I could try to do it, but it would be a lot of hassle - I need to generate challenges ("nonces") securely, store them and check for replays, etc. - lots of things I can screw up and make determined attackers happy. So I'd prefer to reuse the digest authentication functionality in IIS, but use my own module for credentials validation. How can I do that?

WCF / ASMX :: Windows Basic Authentication-Credentials Retained For Further Calls?

Aug 25, 2010

I have an XML web service where the authentication used is BASIC WINDOWS. Following is my client code to connect to the service.

Now, the issue is that the client is really authenticated only in the first attempt(First time I execute the code in VS). Further attempts succeed even if the code to assign credentials is commented or even after providing wrong user id/ password. I ensured that the server is hit each time(Just to make it clear that it not just because of client side caching).Is this the behavior of Basic authentication/credential cache. I would prefer the client be authenticated each time he hits the server.
