I have an ASP.NET (C#) page that has a long load time (like 2 minutes). The user is presented with a little animation and a "please wait" message. If the user accidentally loads this page, they need to wait for it to load.
My question is: Is there a way to stop the page load?
So imagine a piece of Javascript as the first script on a page along the lines of

this.SuperObjectInit();

Now imagine that everything that proceeds this script (or a large portion therein) requires the SuperObject to have met its load conditions and loaded correctly.
Assuming for whatever reason the loading of the object fails I need to abort loading the rest of the page and the scripts in particular.
I know the majority of you are going to scream why not have your function issue a callback onSuccess and onFailed but the problem is this is in a ASP.Net project with masterpages, nestedmasterpages, usercontrols and so forth (each of which have their own dependencies and scripts); rendering such an approach problematic.
The other option (I assume) is to use window.location = "myErrorPage.html"; but I dont like the idea of having to create another page for an error message or the fact that it causes a redirect.
What I am hoping to do is something along the lines of
StopLoadingPage();
document.write("Error has occurred");
I'm trying to stop the rest of a page loading based on some parameters; but am not sure of the correct syntax.

I want to be able to (in code) tell the page to refresh at that point ignoring anything else it was going to do.
Explanation:
I have a property lets call it AllUsers
AllUsers
{
return Database.GetAllUsers();
}
Now I have put it like this because in my code I want to just use this property to browse all the users and not have to check if its null or not up to date. The problem is if my method .GetAllUsers() throws an exception e.g. database is unavailable. If this happens I want to display a message to the user and reload the page to its initial state.
e.g. something like this
AllUsers
{
try
{
return Database.GetAllUsers();
}
catch(Exception e)
{
AbortAllCodeAndReloadAndDisplayMessage(e.Message);
}
}
Now I can reload the page using Response.AppendHeader("Refresh", "0;URL=ThisPage.aspx");
but how can I abort all code? because if I use this where I have placed my method the code will run and then reload on the next page load.
Should I change by property design? I wanted to have a property which would always be valid and up to date so any code using it wouldn't have to worrie

We have installed a web site written by others which is compiled with Visual Studio 2008 and hosted in Windows server 2008 R2.
The IIS connection timeout is set to 120 seconds. But for some pages, the first page loading fails with HTTP 404 error but sequential refresh can bring the page up. The same problem happens for some images which fail to load in web pages. We are not very sure it is network related issue or hosting issue.
I have update panel on the page to avoid postback and placed a dropdownlist control within that update panel. DrodownList is filled with Category names and also it's autopostback set to True.
Now whenever dropdownlist index change's on select, untill page loads complete data it should show mesage as "Loading.... in center and middle of the page and background should become bit transparent". And when page load completely with data then that background and message should get disappear.
I want to display a loading animation while my page is loading, and when loading is complete then obviously hide it.
I am working in ASP.NET using Masterpages, just wondering there is a a simple way of doing this using JQuery?
I am writing a web application which consists of a master page (header / menus) which does not change and content pages. When I do something like click on a button it causes a post back which is correct but this redraws the whole screen and becomes annoying because every post back and the whole screen flickers.
Is there a way to only refresh the content page?
I have 2 pages..In Both the pages i have one button.If i click Btn in Page one it should transfer the control to Page2 .But if i Click button in Page 2 it should not reload the Page1.It should just display the data in page1 without reloading.

View 2 RepliesI'm using ASP.NET, and in a Wizard control I have radio buttons where if "Yes" is selected, a panel is shown, but if "No" is selected, the panel is hidden. I have MaintainScrollPositionOnPostBack set to True, though the ActiveStepChanged event changes it to False so that when you click Next to see the next Wizard step, it will start at the top of the page. The problem is, after clicking Next, the first time you click on a radio button it jumps to the top of the page (the page retains its position any time you click a radio button after the first time). How do I stop it from jumping the first time?
View 2 RepliesI am wondering if there is anyway to grab the html that is generated from an ASP page.I am trying to pull a table from the page,and I foolishly used a static html page so I would not have to be constantly querying the server where this page resides while I tested out my code.The javascript code I wrote to grab to unlabeled table from the page works.Then when I put it into practice with the real page and found that the ASP page does not generate a viewable page with a jquery .get request on the URL.
Is there any way to query the page for the table I need so that the ASP page returns a valid page on request?(I am also limited to using javascript and perl for this,the server where this will reside will not run php and I have no desire to learn ASP.NET to solve this by adding to the issue of proprietary software)
I am experiencing an issue with the TreeView control when loading new pages. It is databound to web.sitemap, but when loading a new page, it does not select the node of the current page, just resets it to the root. THe new page loads fine, just not preserving the current navigation in the tree view.

When I click on the link it goes to the Details page Page Load Function like its suppose to, but when it finishes it goes back to the Home pages Page Load Function. Then loads the Details page. So it parses the old pages Page Load Function for somewhat no apparent reason, because in the end it loads the Details page. This only happens when I click on the link to my Details page. When I click on other links to other pages, it doesn't do this. For some reason only my Details page. I went through the code to see what could be causing this but have no clue. I included below the complete .aspx.vb for my Details page. What could be causing this? Again this ONLY happens when going to my Details page.

The problem with my web application is when ever i load the home page - The master page as well as content page loads ---This seems fine but when i navigate thorugh the website which have the same Master page but diffrent content page .... the master page loads again. What i want to do is ..I want to keep the master page intact and only the content page loads. How can I accomplish it..
View 3 RepliesI have a site where I am trying to implement a jQuery UI based MessageBox in my master page. Content pages are arranged accoring to business area folders, i.e. '~/Branding/Contracts.aspx'. I find that when I load such a content page, jQuery, which is referenced in the master page as below, does not load. I assume that this is because the browser is requesting 'Branding/Scripts/jQuery What can I do about this? I don't have the 'root' operator in a plain 'script' tag.

As we do in IE toolbar, when we select the hyperlink element, the toolbar highlight the hyperlink but doesn't dispatch the redirect event, i need the same behavior in my html code.
I have an ImageButton programmed to open up a new window with a small onclientclick javascript routine. But, when the ImageButton is clicked, the page containing the button reloads too, causing both a delay and loss of position on the page. I don't need the page to reload, just the new window to open.

The web part has an 'export' button that renders the output as csv and sets the appropriate headers so its opened in Excel.
Hooking in the buttons click event, clearing the response, adding the appropriate headers and content types is trivial - example
However I've noticed that if this code added to a web part and a debugger attached then if there are multiple instances of this (or any other) web part on the page then neither HTTPApplication.CompleteRequest or Response.End stop the processing/page lifecycle and all the events for all the page controls still fire.
This is wasteful in this example as the other web parts don't need to run - nothing they do will get to the response.
I'm using CustomValidator with Page.IsValid=false but for some reason the FormView control still process the insertion.
