C# - How To Use Proxy Class Generated By WSDL In Web Service
Jul 7, 2010
Disclaimer: My experience/knowledge of web services is very limited.
There is an existing web service WSDL that I have reverse engineered with wsdl.exe to create a C# proxy class.
Using Visual Studio 2008 I created a default web service template.
How do I reference the generated proxy class so that it will work in the web service?
For example -> calling http://localhost/webservice/service.asmx?WSDL will return the details from the proxy class.

When you add a Web Reference in an ASP.NET project in Visual Studio the web application's root namespace is always added. So, if I add a web reference called MyWebService and the default namespace of the application is MyApplication the namespace of the generated proxy class will be: MyApplication.MyWebService.
However, I want to be able to specify which namespace to use for the generated class (to skip the default namespace and have the namespace be called simply MyWebService). Is using wsdl.exe through the command line the only way of accomplishing this? I don't want to manually edit the generated class (since it can get re-generated).

i am trying to follow this:
http://www.communitymx.com/content/article.cfm?page=2&cid=E8E8CE970C6AB073
but i am having trouble with the first bit. i have built the pages, but i cant work out the whole proxy class bit. I cant find wsdl.exe or operate it... ive downloaded sdk's and still cant find it..
i have xp home, so does this mean no iis?
is there another way to achieve what the tutorial is doing without having to build a proxy class etc?

When you create and use a Web Service proxy class in the ASP.Net framework, the class ultimately inherits from Component, which implements IDisposable. I have never seen one example online where people dispose of a web proxy class, but was wondering if it really needs to be done. When I call only one method, I normally wrap it in a using statement, but if I have a need to call it several times throughout the page, I might end up using the same instance, and just wondered what the ramifications are of not disposing it.

I created on wcf web service and trying to test with SOAP UI. When testing with soap ui for example creating an employee, if I send soap request xml with
<empId>0</empId> works fine.
<empId></empId> **throwing exception.**
if i completly remove <empId> tag it works fine....
Is there any way to make default value as "0" in wsdl in WCF?

I need to access a web service. The WSDL is not available, even if I know everything about the service (url, method name and signature). I guess I could use HTTPRequest and HTTPResponse classes:HTTPResponse: should contains the XML Soap Response that I eventually parse.HTTPRequest: how to specify the service's and the method's parameters?

I have had some web services running for some time now without any problems. Recently I tried to update the webservices in the project they run from but keep getting the error:
Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: 'http://server/ErrorEmails.asmx?wsdl'
When I tried adding the web reference to the project from scratch I get he following error: 'Unable to download the following files from http://server/ErrorEmails.asmx?wsdl'
Now I can see what the problem is: the 'server' part of the url is pointing to the
internal server name instead of the actual url. I have not changed anything in the web services themselves or the projects which include them. If I copy the exact same webservice to a different folder on the server it can connect with no problem. This makes me believe its an issue with the directory on the server, however the server administrators say that this is not the case.
How has this error come up all of a sudden and what is the solution? .. I have read various forums on creating proxy classes, adding code to web config file etc but don't see why this should be done when it worked fine to start with and still works fine in a separate directory on the server!

When I do server side soap service programming, I create proxy classes first using some xsd schemas.
Xsd schemas are already defined by another company.my problem is these schemas have master xsds and child xsds which means on master xsds there are references to child xsds.
In this case I have 2 different questions.
1) Is it possible to use xsd schemas directly to build soap service without generating proxy classes.
2) If it is not possible, I am using vs command prompt by typing xsd /c /l:vb nameofmasterfile.xsd
but while there references to child xsds, I am getting an error msg. thats why I had to flatten these xsds in the past. Is it possible to generate all classes in one shot. any external program also ok.

I was just wanting to "cleanup" my WSDL for my .NET 4.0 WCF Web Service and I have most references to tempuri.org changed, except two.
I have added
[Code]....
But, my WSDL still has a reference to
<wsdl:definitions ... xmlns:i0="http://tempuri.org/" ...
and
<wsdl:import namespace="http://tempuri.org/" ...

My question is dealing with the DataList control. I am trying to add a click event to the rows of the "table" in the OnItemDataBound event.
The problem I'm having is I can't get a reference (through a row id attribute) to the "row" being generated by the DataList control (and more specifically the item template). Is there a way to add id attributes to the rows being generated by the item template?
