C# - How To Write A Custom Templatefield Like DataControlField
Jan 22, 2011
I am using a GridView to display data where one of the data columns has type DateTimeOffset. In order to display dates & times in the user's timezone, I save the user's timezone preference to his or her profile (property value key "TimezoneOffset"), and need to access it when formatting dates & times.
If I were to use templatefield, then I would need to write:
[code]....
but whereas the article sets the Text property of the TableCell instance, I would like to render a partial view into the table cell. Is that possible?

I did some search but nothing is really useful in my case.
I want to inherit the DataControlField (System.Web.UI.WebControls) to be able to carry two label controls and then I want to color the two labels to get some sort of conditional formatting, I've got the conditional formatting part but how can I customize this class?
Where in my class should I define the two label controls?
How would I override the CreateField method?
P.S: I know I can accomplish this, in XHTML Markup, but I have so many columns that it would not be appropriate to include those markups in the page markup. Therefore I'm doing that in the CodeBehind page.
EDIT:
public class MyField : DataControlField
{
public MyField()
{
}
protected override DataControlField CreateField()
{
// What to put here?
}
protected override void CopyProperties(DataControlField newField)
{
((CalendarField)newField).DataField = this.DataField;
((CalendarField)newField).DataFormatString = this.DataFormatString;
((CalendarField)newField).ReadOnly = this.ReadOnly;
base.CopyProperties(newField);
}
public override void InitializeCell(DataControlFieldCell cell, DataControlCellType cellType, DataControlRowState rowState, int rowIndex)
{
// Call the base method
base.InitializeCell(cell, cellType, rowState, rowIndex);
// Initialize the contents of the cell quitting if it is a header/footer
if (cellType == DataControlCellType.DataCell)
InitializeDataCell(cell, rowState);
}
protected virtual void InitializeDataCell(DataControlFieldCell cell, DataControlRowState rowState)
{
}
}

i have a customized gridview.my grid is able to sort for each column just by 1 click in the header without any setting and overloading methods such as sorting,etc by user(programmer).(i do this successfully and work fine)users(programmers) maybe add each column in grid.such as template field,hyperlinkfield,boundfield... .for sorting, i must access datafield of columns.i can access boundfield column by this code.i can access datafield and header text and ...
sample:
for (int j = 0; j < this.Columns.Count; j++)
{
BoundField bf;[code]....
but i can access control in the templateField.such as ColumnBound.
sample: <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("Name") %>'></asp:Label>
i want access "Name" (Bind ("Name") or Eval ("Name")) .how can i?there is a point: i dont now what is the ID (in this case "Label1") of control in templatefield.

I've written a class that inherits from DataControlField. I did that so I can add a custom column to my gridview. The datasource of my gridview is a SQLDatasource. I now need to get the datatype of each field in my custom class e.g string, boolean, int etc.

I've built a control that inherits from a Gridview. I also have a class where I extended DataControlField, so I can make a custom Gridview column.
Everything works great on a normal aspx page that gets refreshed everytime I load tha page or paginate through the gridview.
The code always goes through the extended DataControlField Class and rebuilds the gridview columns etc.
I tried adding my gridview inside an updatepanel today. set the updateMode to conditional(currently have a normal asp gridview in it and that works well).
the grid loads fine on the initial load, but if I try to page it breaks. It never goes through the extended DataControlfield class. I place a breakpoint there. and because of this my code in the gridview class gives me errors.

Using ASP.NET with framework 4.0.30319, changes to the ControlStyle of a ButtonField in a GridView are not saved in Viewstate. Examining the source code suggests that this is because DataControlField.LoadViewstate does not load viewstate for the ControlStyle.
It's possible to work around this by overriding SaveViewState in the closest container and saving the state there.

I'm trying to write a custom rendering template for use in the DisplayForm of a list whose fields include Title, HeaderImageUrl, Body. I've got the following so far:
<SharePoint:RenderingTemplate ID="NewsListForm" runat="server">
<Template>
<h1><SharePoint:FieldValue FieldName="Title" runat="server"/></h1>
<div>
<p>
<SharePoint:UrlField FieldName="HeaderImageUrl" runat="server"></SharePoint:UrlField>
<SharePoint:RichTextField FieldName="Body" runat="server" />
</p>
</div>
</Template>
</SharePoint:RenderingTemplate>
The HeaderImageUrl field is configured to be an Image URL, but when I use the UrlField control, it renders a link.
I was thinking there might be a way to grab field values and put them in attributes, so something like this:
<asp:Image ImageUrl="<% FieldValue["HeaderImageUrl"] %>" runat="server"/>
If this kind of thing isn't possible, then is there another control in Microsoft.SharePoint.WebControls that would render an image from a URL?

I'm looking for a walkthrough on how to create and use a custom provider for ASP.Net Healthmonitoring.
So far I've only worked with the e-mail provider that generates e-mails on errors. Basically I want to do the same, but with more flexibility: I want to use the HealthMonitoring features (I don't want to use the Application_OnError event in the global.asax) in a way that allows me have access to an event, that gets thrown like "OnNewHealthMonitoringEntry" with all the information provided in the e-mail, to run custom code.
Edit: Based on the source code provided here [URL] I was able to build my own custom provider and implement it. Now I want to add some new attributes to configure my custom provider.
Here is what the web.config looks like:
<healthMonitoring>
<bufferModes>
<add name="Log Notification" maxBufferSize="1" maxFlushSize="1" urgentFlushThreshold="1" regularFlushInterval="Infinite" urgentFlushInterval="00:00:10"/>
</bufferModes>
[code]....
Is it possible to store configuration necessary for custom provider close to the healthMonitoring section? I guess I could include the settings into the appSettings node, but I'd like to configure it somehow with attributes (inside the healthMonitoring node). Is that possible?

I am trying to figure out how to use/create a custom control in ASP.NET MVC 2.
I created a custom control earlier and compiled it (ccontrol.dll), the control renders a div, textbox and a button + some javascript in order to post a comment on the website. It could be a static aspx page that i wanted to allow my visitors to add a comment to. I would then drag my control from the toolbar to the aspx page and run it, it would then render all the code needed on the webpage including fetching the data from a datasource and displaying that inside the div. The user could also just type in a comment and press the button to save it to the datasource.
Is this possible to convert to MVC 2? Any good tutorial that covers custom controls and MVC 2? (Ideally would be if the control could be made into a .dll file that i then could reuse on future webpages)
How do i write a custom control the mvc way? Any good tutorials on the topic?

I need to declare an instance of a custom class and add it to the Application collection as soon as our ASP.NET site starts on the server.
So far, we have it doing it on the first page load of a master page, but that can take a few seconds because this class is a little intensive, so the first user is required to wait a couple seconds while the web server completes its task.So where do I need to go to do this?

I have written an Http Module that hooks onto the Response.Filter property of the current request and does various replacements within the HTML before it is sent to the client.All the work is done in the Write method which is overriding Write in the base class Stream.
The Write method is called multiple times for a single response - the HTML seems to be written to the output stream in chunks. My problem is that I don't have an efficient & reliable way of telling if the current chunk is the last chunk (for why I want to know this see below). The only way I have come up with is to check if the chunk contains a closing html tag - but this is not very efficient or reliable.
The reason this is needed is that the module must add the "Refresh" HTTP header to the response, but only if the HTML fulfills certain conditions (and there are certain conditions that mean the header must not be added). So, only when the last chunk has been seen does the code know if the header can be added or not. So, I either need a test for the last chunk, or on each call to Write I add the header if the current block of HTML passes the test (if it has not already been added) or remove the header if the current block of HTML fails the test (if it has already been added).
So, is there a better way to test for the last chuck OR is there a way to test for a particular header being in the response and delete it (there doesn't seem to be a way to do this - only to append headers)?

The thinking behind the question is that my image current reads it's data from a custom httphandler that gets the image from the database. I want to be able to use a file upload control to "post" a replacement file back to a "write" handler, updating the database. Then I can refresh my image using javascript to the original "read" handler. Is this possible?
I currently have a standard postback model upload process which puts the image into the database and a custom handler to read it back. What I want to know, is can you create a custom http handler to perform the upload so I could asynchronously call the upload handler then refresh the image src to pull it back from the database. At the moment I am using the IFrame approach to make it appear asynchronous, I just want to know the best practice really

I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction? I have a POCO model and I am using Code First CTP. In my application, I set the database to be recreated whenever the model changes.
I would like to write custom functionality to access the model (POCO) metadata same way as EF sees it and use that to generate some source files (using T4). I would like to access the processed model not having to worry about finding properties that hold primary keys or any other conventions (implicit or not). What is the way to go about it?

In asp.net mvc project I am using MYSQlMemberShipProvider. Now I want that instead of reading the connection string from web.config file, it will read the connection string from external file every time. So that I am implementing the cutsom mebership provider class, this class inherits the MemberShipProvider class. But the problem is that if I inherits the MemberShipProvider class then I have to impelment all of its method in my cutsom membership provider class, But I want to use all other inbuilt methods of MemeberShip. What can i do. I only want to add the code like below:
public class CustomSqlMembershipProvider :MembershipProvider
{
public override void Initialize(string name, NameValueCollection configs)
{
base.Initialize(name, configs);
Connectionstring objProducts = // redaing the connection string.
}
}
But on compiltaion it is giving me the error does not implement inherit abstract member.
