C# - IIS 7.5 Configuring Website To Support Http - Net.pipe To Invoke WCF Service?

Nov 11, 2010

In IIS 7.5 i configured my asp.net website for "http, net.pipe" in "Enable protocols".

Note:

net.pipe configuration is done to call another module within the website (SOA). Every thing worked fine with simple asp.net & net.pipe service invocation calling other module. But When i try to call RIA service from silverlight 4 i get the following error

The provided URI scheme 'net.pipe' is invalid; expected 'http'.
Parameter name: context.ListenUriBaseAddress

How can i configure my website to work in http & net.pipe configuration ?

WCF / ASMX :: The Pipe Endpoint 'net.pipe://127.0.0.1/TestService.svc' Could Not Be Found On Local Machine

Nov 15, 2010

I'm having error:

The pipe endpoint 'net.pipe://127.0.0.1/TestService.svc' could not be found on your local machine.

I have 2 web applications deployed in IIS7:

1st - host(application hosts WCF service TestService.svc, 2nd application should be able to acces this service)

2nd - client(application should use service hosted in 1st application)

I have configured net.pipe binding.

Here web.config files:

1st(Host)

[Code]....

2nd(client)

[Code]....

I've already done with adding net.pipe biding for host application. net.pipe protocol also enabled for the host application.

I can see the service page when I'm opening http://127.0.0.1/TestService.svc.

What am I doing wrong? Why do I receive this error?

<system.serviceModel>

How To Get Website To Allow The Pipe Character In The URL

Feb 1, 2010

This website [URL] does not accept the pipe character | in the URL

This works [URL]

but this doesn't

[URL]

It looks like the pipe is an issue as

[URL]

works.

I need to stop this because a third party called Omniture needs to access this website automatically with the | in the URL. I cannot ask them to encode the | as they are a big company. They say there is some way to allow the | but I am not sure how.

Configuration :: Configuring Original Settings For New Website Based On Site Files From 1st Website & Password Q

Oct 19, 2010

I want to make a 2nd website and am using a copy of the site files from my 1st site built for me, I added them via FTP to the hosting company. I realise when I edit the new site via the CMS it is editing both sites plus when I try to change anything to the CSS file I get the following error -

C:inetpubvhosts*****mysite******httpdocsapp_themessiteStyleSheet.css

So my questions are what do I need to change to be able to deploy a new site with the files I have to make a new site?I also don't understand where the password is coming from, I can see the User ID comes from the database. in the Asp.net connection strings are the following:

site Data Source=sql7.hostinguk.net;Initial Catalog=***;User ID=***;Password=*** - Where is this password coming from?

membership Data Source=sql7.hostinguk.net;User ID=***;Password=***;persist security info=False;initial catalog=***;

Configuring Web.config (system.serviceModel) For A Website Which Talks To Multiple Web Services?

Feb 8, 2011

I've a solution which consists of a web project and a class library project. The web project solution directly references a wcf service. There is a 2nd wcf service, but it is the class library project which directly references it. I'm adding the class library (output) as reference to my web project.

Hence in my web project's web.config I now have two scf services configured. This process was easy since I had manually copied the app.config (system.serviceModel part) directly to the web.config, and then configured the web project to talk directly with another wcf service (directly, not through any dlls).

My web project needs to talk to a 3rd web service (asmx). Again I plan to bring this as a class library and include the dll into my web project. (This is a separate solution). When I took a look at this particular class lib project's app.config, I thought i just copy those necessary sections and merge it correspondingly with my current web.config.

So for the 3rd class lib project (which references the asmx service) I happened to notice that it had, under the bindings node, a node called basicHttpBinding, and next, a customBinding. Then further under the client node, there were two endpoint nodes which had the service attributes. (I don't understand why there should be two end points here first of all).

So I copied what came under the bindings node (from the 3rd class lib prj app.config) and appended it to the bindings node (in the web.config). I did a similar process for copying the end points too. But now when I try run the web site I get an exception which halts at the time of initializing the soap client (asmx service): it says something like its not able to determine the endpoint for this contract.

The web.config before I add the asmx web service looks like this:

[code]....

How To Design A WCF Service Which Can Support 10,000 Simultaneous Hits

Mar 28, 2011

I have to create a WCF service which can support 10,000 users simultaneous hits.

The job of the WCF service is to fetch a cached up XML object (we are using Enterprise Lib caching) and return it to the caller.

This WCF service will have to be publicly exposed. So I was thinking that we may have to use basicHttpBinding... I don't know, I may be wrong.

WCF / ASMX :: Web Service Process In Parallel Support?

Mar 14, 2011

I am seeking your expertise in ASP.Net with regards to multi-thread support of WebService in a scenario , that is If a WebService-Client is making simultaneous calls from the same process, the requests will be serialized at the WebServices so that only one-call will execute at any one time , on the contrary, if those calls are sent from different WebService-Clients ( Instances/Processes) , they are processed in-parallel by WebServices.

Have you ever experienced the same with ASP.Net, and what configurations/Settings should be followed, in order for a WebServices to concurrently process simultaneous calls form a single WebClient , when deploying a large number of Web-Clients' instances/processes is impractical in a project-context.

WCF / ASMX :: Location Of Web Service Support DLLs?

Aug 5, 2010

I have several ASP.NET 1.1 web services that make use of several common DLLs. Rather than having each web service contain its own copy of these DLLs, I would like to have these DLLs centrally located so that I don't have to remember to update each web service with new copies of the DLLs if they happen to change. For example, if web services WSA and WSB each use XYZ.DLL does XYZ.DLL need to be in both WSA and WSB or can WSA and WSB be told that XYZ.DLL is is some other folder like C:Common? Is this at all possible or do I have to have a copy of the DLLs in each web service folder?

What Is The Best Architecture For Building A Website That May Also Support A Native Mobile App In The Future

Sep 30, 2010

I am in the planning phases of building a new ASP.NET website. The website is really a transactional web application where the users will log in and perform basic CRUD data operations. For right now this website will be accessible through a traditional desktop browser and a mobile browser. For the mobile browser we will build a separate scaled down version of the site.In the future we may decide to create native mobile applications for Android or iOS devices also.

So the question I have is what is the best way to design the system to easily support that? Here is what I am thinking. I am thinking of building out 3 tiers to the site. The back end will be the database - SQL Server 2008. We will use stored procedures for all data access. The middle tier will be a web services tier. This tier will be built using RESTful web services and will contain all of the business logic. These web services will provide access to the database. The front end will be built using ASP.NET. The front end will only contain presentation logic. These tiers will actually be deployed on physically separate servers.

Then I am thinking that when we decide to build a native Android or iOS app that we could build those apps to simply call the same RESTful web services that the main site is calling.Does this seem like a reasonable approach? The only thing I can think of is that the way we are building it right now the web services would be behind the firewall and would not be accessible to the outside world. When we want to support a native mobile app then we would need to make the web services accessible to the outside world.Any thoughts? Does this seem like a good approach for building a high availability, high usage web app that needs to support native mobile apps in the future?

Upload File To ASP Web Service With HTTP / 1.1 POST

Mar 23, 2011

I'm trying to upload a file to an ASP 2.0 web service through HTTP 1.1 POST from a client-side application. If my web service function is declared as

<WebMethod()>
Public Function UploadFile(ByVal file as Byte(), ByVal fileName as String) as String
...

The test form says the request should take this form:

POST address_of_service HTTP/1.1
Host: <host>
Content-Type: application/x-www-form-urlencoded
Content-Length: length
file=string&file=string&fileName=string

How do I get my binary file data into that form? I've tried just converting the file data to a string and putting it in the body (file=<string_data_here>) but I get HTTP 500 errors back, complaining about not being able to convert it to System.Byte. I've got HTTP POST working fine elsewhere in my application with plain string parameters. Also, out of curiosity, why is it showing the file parameter twice?
