Feb 22, 2011I've encountered a problem while installing Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 7, I've tried to modify the privileges of the destination folders to no avail, I've also tried to delete everything related to it with a removal tool. The problem is that the installation is always unsuccessful at the same point, providing me a Blue Screen of Death (twice) and the following error message (infinite amount of occasions):

Jan 21, 2010I have 2 machines on a domain. The first machine has IIS 6. 0 inatalled on it, whereas the second machine has published web content.
On the local machine ie. Web server i have configured the website like "A Share located on another computer" Eg: //Machine2/Application1. The pubished web content is inside a shared folder on the remote machine. Finally when i run the application in browser(IE 7.0) i get the following error.
Server Application Unavailable

Oct 19, 2010I want to make a 2nd website and am using a copy of the site files from my 1st site built for me, I added them via FTP to the hosting company. I realise when I edit the new site via the CMS it is editing both sites plus when I try to change anything to the CSS file I get the following error -

So my questions are what do I need to change to be able to deploy a new site with the files I have to make a new site?I also don't understand where the password is coming from, I can see the User ID comes from the database. in the Asp.net connection strings are the following:

Jul 25, 2010When I add an AccessDataSource and attempt to configure it, the "Advanced SQL Generation Options" panel opens, but checkboxes "Generate INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE statements" and "Use optimistic concurrency" are sometimes grayed out.It appears that this happens when a table is specified that contains a foreign key, and it also seems that any Update query statement I specify in conjunction with a related databound gridview doesn't "take". What's the story here? Is it not possible to update a database table from a databound gridview control if the underlying table has a foreign key? Or is something else going on?

PC 1: Latest Win XP Pro, MS Visual Studio 2008 SP1
PC2: Win Server 2008, Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and Visual Studio 2010 RC.

Jan 18, 2010I've just got a new computer and have moved my Web Applications from the old XP over to my new Win 7 machine. When I run my the applicatinos, I get an error that says "Failed to map the path '/'.". Line 130: Line 131: // Get encryption and decryption key information from the configuration. But my colleague runs the same applications, with the same settings on his similar computer/system, without running it as administrator. So my thought is that it must be possible to solve this withour running VS as administrator. Does anybody know why and perhaps how to solve it

net.pipe configuration is done to call another module within the website (SOA). Every thing worked fine with simple asp.net & net.pipe service invocation calling other module. But When i try to call RIA service from silverlight 4 i get the following error

Configuring Web.config (system.serviceModel) For A Website Which Talks To Multiple Web Services?
Feb 8, 2011I've a solution which consists of a web project and a class library project. The web project solution directly references a wcf service. There is a 2nd wcf service, but it is the class library project which directly references it. I'm adding the class library (output) as reference to my web project.
Hence in my web project's web.config I now have two scf services configured. This process was easy since I had manually copied the app.config (system.serviceModel part) directly to the web.config, and then configured the web project to talk directly with another wcf service (directly, not through any dlls).
My web project needs to talk to a 3rd web service (asmx). Again I plan to bring this as a class library and include the dll into my web project. (This is a separate solution). When I took a look at this particular class lib project's app.config, I thought i just copy those necessary sections and merge it correspondingly with my current web.config.
So for the 3rd class lib project (which references the asmx service) I happened to notice that it had, under the bindings node, a node called basicHttpBinding, and next, a customBinding. Then further under the client node, there were two endpoint nodes which had the service attributes. (I don't understand why there should be two end points here first of all).
So I copied what came under the bindings node (from the 3rd class lib prj app.config) and appended it to the bindings node (in the web.config). I did a similar process for copying the end points too. But now when I try run the web site I get an exception which halts at the time of initializing the soap client (asmx service): it says something like its not able to determine the endpoint for this contract.
The web.config before I add the asmx web service looks like this:

Jan 18, 2011Recently i am getting the follwoing error when i run my application in localhost.
Failed to map the path '/mechano/App_GlobalResources/'. I believe the error is occured after installing sp3.
I have VS2008(3.5) and sqlserver 2005. Recently i have installed SP3 and uninstalled SP3 as it made my pc very slow. Before installing SP3 everything worked well.
I have tried the following to get rid of the error, but none of this steps helped me
1.

First step was to delete the ASPNET user account and then run the aspnet_regiis utility in the framework folder:
c:WINNTMicrosoft.NETframeworkv2.0.50727aspnet_regiis -i
This will re-register ASP.NET with IIS and re-create the ASPNET account.
Next you need to give permissions to the (nicely refreshed) ASPNET user account to access this folder with Modify permissions:
C:Documents and SettingsAll Users.WINNTApplication DataMicrosoftCryptoRSAMachineKeys
A quick restart of IIS (quick-tip: simply type iisreset in a run dialog to restart your IIS) and you should be away. It worked for us anyway :)

Dec 1, 2010I have reasonable experience programming for windows form programs in VB 2005, but I am new in ASP.NET. I have tried the file system website, and it does not seems to have a problem for me. However, when I was trying to create a website to run with IIS, it failed. This is what happened, to start, I chose location:HTTP on the "new web site" dialog box, and using browse button, I opened the "choose location" dialogbox. I choose "Local IIS" on the lefthand side. Then, I create new virtual directory, with the alias name "Test" and folder c:my documentweb site st (new and empty directory). Then I clicked the open button, it was still fine, where it returned to the "new web site" dialog box. However, when I clicked the OK button on the "New Web Site" dialog box, it comes up with this error:
"Configuring web site 'http://localhost/Test' to ASP.NET 2.0 failed. You may need to manually configure this site for ASP.NET 2.0 in order for your site to run correctly"
When I clicked OK, it does come up with a blank website, however if I run it, it will comes up with this error:
"Unable to start debugging on the web server. The server does not support debugging of ASP.NET and ATL Server application. Click Help for more information on how to enable debugging" but there is no Help button!
By the way, all the trials are done in VB2005/ASP.NET 2.0, we are trying to upgrade to VB2010 sometimes next year. The computer is running Windows XP.
Installation :: How To Copy And Paste Project/website
Jun 30, 2010i have developed simple login form as my web application. I wanted to connect it with database to add some more features. However, my VS 2008 was unable to connect with SQL Server 2008 on my laptop, I thought, I should copy and paste my entire web application folder into my web space provided by university. I have done that through ftp. However, when I have tried to debug my application (through remote desktop connection on my university server) I got some weired error.
Furthermore, when I have tried to debug my application on my laptop, it gave me an error that "Web.config file has been renamed, changed or deleted........."
So, my question is, "Is it possible to copy and paste your project simply like you do with your other files (songs, movies or photos etc...) and can debug (source as well as destination) without doing any further editing or chages?"........If no, what are the other alternatives?......
Installation :: Strong Naming An Assembly Of A Website?
Jan 24, 2010Strong Named Their Assembly. I've read on-line and in the help files for 6 hours straight and I am no where closer to getting this. It seems that every 6 months I run up against one of these types of things with VB.net and the .Net Framework. I read on line and find dozens of people who get the same exact error. Most of the threads are never resolved and the ones that seem to resolve the issue do it in a way that doesn't work for ever one else. It is really absurd.
My web site runs fine in debug mode on my computer (local host). It loads in FireFox and runs fine. When I post it to my web site I get the error below. I try to "Strong Name The Assembly" with the command line command "aspnet_compiler -v default.aspx X:NetProjectsHumMPI -keyfile X:NetProjectsHumMPIkeypair.snk -aptca"
Default.aspx is what fails. This should be the virtual folder of my web app. Obviously "Default.aspx" is not right. I have tried 42 variations on what I think the virtual path to my web app might be. Every single time the compiler fails telling me that it is not a valid path.
I'm moving in to week two of trying to get a simple "Hello world" web app to load on my web site. It runs perfect on my development machine but generates constant errors on the web site. Each time I fix a problem that only happens on the web site another one crops up with even the slightest change - or sometimes even NO change to the code.
