C# - Passing Null Values In Single Line Conditional?

Oct 15, 2010

Just a fictional code, but why this won't work? (as the date variable is nullable)

DateTime? date = textBoxDate.Text != "" ? textBoxDate.Text : null;

The error is "There is no explicit conversion between System.DateTime and <null>

VS 2005 Passing Textbox Values To SQL (not Null)?

May 7, 2010

Code:
SELECT one, two, three, four FROM tblFixedLine_onenet_callLog WHERE (one LIKE '%' + ISNULL(@one,'') + '%') AND (two LIKE '%' + ISNULL(@two, '') + '%') AND (three LIKE '%' + ISNULL(@three, '') + '%') AND (four LIKE '%' + ISNULL(@four, '') + '%') ORDER BY one, two, three, four
@one, @two, @three and @four are textboxes on my ASP.NET page all of which by default have no value(therefore i assumed NULL).If i test the SQL in the VS2005 SQL Configuration (and put the values in manually) it works but the ASP page returns no results... i assume therefore the Textbox value is "" not Null.

Forms Data Controls :: Passing Null Values To ObjectDataSource

Jan 4, 2011

This is an ASP.NET 3.5 web app written in C# using VS2008 and connecting to an MS SQL backend. It is using ad hoc queries in a strongly typed dataset to pull from the database. This query (shortened for clarity) is designed to allow optional input of parameters (a requirement) or pull all records if no parameters are input. It works normally in SQL Server Management Studio with the addition of Declare and Set statements and it works normally in the TableAdapter's Query Builder:

[Code]....

The markup contains this ObjectDataSource, which is tied to the TableAdapter with the above query:

[Code]....

The problem I'm having is in passing null values to the ODS to feed to the query. Tying the ODS parameters directly to the dropdownlists and textboxes didn't work. Got an error message that there was a mismatched data type. Tried several combinations of code to feed the right values to the ODS parameters but couldn't find one that worked. Is the problem in the query or am I setting up the code-behind wrong? Here's the code:

[Code]....

Compile A Single (.aspx) Page From The Command Line?

Apr 9, 2010

I have a Perl script that calls aspnet_compiler.exe to compile a large ASP.NET website. The problem is that it takes very long to run. Is there any way to compile just a single .aspx file from the command line? (I think that would suit the needs of my script) It seems that all aspnet_compiler.exe can do is compile at a directory level.

Forms Data Controls :: GridView Conditional Formatting Based On Duplicate Values?

Jun 2, 2010

I have a gridview containing serial-numbers.

I would like to format the background each data-row that contains a duplicate serial-number value.

I'm planning to do this using a DataBound event handler.

So, in English:

Set background colour of THIS_ROW to red where the Serial_Number of THIS_ROW is the same as the Serial_Number of ANY_OTHER_ROW.

All rows with duplicate serial-numbers would be red.

I'm not sure how to write the code for this event.

The gridview is bound to a SQL datasource. Getting the dupes in SQL is easy:

SELECT Serial
FROM Table
GROUP BY Serial
HAVING (COUNT(Serial) > 1)

Web Forms :: Passing Values From Parent Page To User Control And Maintaining The Values Added

Mar 18, 2011

I wanted to know if we can pass values from Parent page (in this case from Default.aspx page) to the user control and maintain those values on subsequent "Add/Load" of user control.

So in short, if I click the "Add" button it loads my "webusercontrol" and also I am able to pass my default.aspx dropdownlist value to this dynamically loaded user control and assign it to a "Label or Textbox" which resides in my "webusercontrol", now the problem is that the value doesn't persists! What I meant is , when I click "Add" button again the "webusercontrol" gets loaded again perfectly but now all my "Label's" in webusercontrol has the new selected value from the default.aspx dropdownlist.

So say for instance I have a Dropdownlist in Default.aspx page with Values "Apple, BlackBerry, Nokia" and initial value to be passed is "Apple", I click the "Add" button, now my "Label" inside webusercontrol has the value "Apple", perfect! Next when I click "Add" button again and select a different value to be passed this time say "BlackBerry" now I have 2 webusercontrol loaded on the page, so that means I have 2 "Labels" with different ID's, but now my first Label initially had the value "Apple" because that's what I had passed and now when I passed the value "Blackberry" both the labels of my webusercontrol has the value "BlackBerry" instead of one being "Apple" and another "BlackBerry"

Is there a way to resolve this issue? may be Dictionary List?

Passing Null Or Zero Length String?

Jul 29, 2010

Passing onto a stored procedure a value from a GridView. The particular fields are a date type, and numeric type. Problem is, its plausible and conceivable in this case one or both could be null or empty.

Through searching I've seen suggested such ideas as Convert.ToDate(value), CDate(value), and so on.
None of these work. You cannot convert an empty string or null value to a date. I don't know about the numeric value.

So, barring any non-working examples already given. What is standard. Its not like I've stumbled across some never afore seen problem.

Here is my code, but its quite typical.

Dim txtctlHireDate As TextBox = CType(gvEvaluatees.Rows(e.RowIndex).FindControl("txtHireDate"), TextBox)
Dim txtctlGradYear As TextBox = CType(gvEvaluatees.Rows(e.RowIndex).FindControl("txtGradYear"), TextBox)
Dim txtctlBU As TextBox = CType(gvEvaluatees.Rows(e.RowIndex).FindControl("txtBU"), TextBox)
Dim ddlctlEvalGroups As DropDownList = CType(gvEvaluatees.Rows(e.RowIndex).FindControl("ddlEvalGroupSelection"), DropDownList)
Dim chkctlActive As CheckBox = CType(gvEvaluatees.Rows(e.RowIndex).FindControl("chkActive"), CheckBox)
UpdateEvaluatees.MGEvalUpdateEvaluatee(gvEvaluatees.DataKeys(0).Value, txtctlHireDate.Text,
txtctlGradYear.Text, txtctlBU.Text,ddlctlEvalGroups.SelectedValue, chkctlActive.Checked)
gvEvaluatees.EditIndex = -1
gvEvaluatees.DataSource = EvaluateesForDataGrid.GetData
gvEvaluatees.DataBind()

I've bolded the parameters in question. A date value and numeric value are expected.

Conditional Popup Box In Vb.net & Asp / Generate A Popup That Informs The User That Certain Values?

Jan 22, 2010

I'm working on a piece of code at the moment that allows the user to enter values into fields. Once the user clicks on the 'save' button I am checking those fields against certain conditions (essentially calling a bunch of stored procedures to assess the values). If any of these 'rules' are met, I need to generate a popup that informs the user that certain values need to be fixed before they can continue for some of the conditions, and for others just to inform them of what conditions may need their attention.

The main thing I need help with is, how do I generate a popup box in my codebehind if the conditions are met?

Passing Null / Empty String To Oracle Stored Procedure?

Mar 1, 2010

We have an ASP.NET web service that invokes a stored procedure on our DB (Oracle 11g). The problem is that the call to the procedure blows up every time an empty string is passed as one of the parameters. We're seeing an ORA-01084 error, which indicates to me that call is failing before the procedure is actually run.

Here's the procedure, minus some logic that I believe is not relevant:

[Code]....

As an experiment, I modified the web service to pass null rather than an empty strings. When null is passed in, I see an error indicating "wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'CREATEREPORT."

I also tried passing DBNull.Value whenever the params were null/empty, but that resulted in the error

Parameter 'p_column_id': No size set for variable length data type: String.

(Of course, p_column_id was the empty parameter in this case).

So, how can I successfully pass empty strings as parameters to my stored procedure? We definitely want to allow the p_column_id parameter to be empty.
