I have a SP db.sp_GetProfitMatrix , it takes nullable integer parameters, for which I have a default . It refuses me when I try to pass a null value (the two date parameters are nullable in the Linq designer) I get {"Nullable object must have a value."} error. here is my code:
int? nlDt = null;
var pms =
from p
in db.sp_GetProfitMatrix( nlDt.Value, nlDt.Value)
select
new
{
p.Volume,
p.GrossSales,
p.NetSales,
p.COGS
};

I have req where i have to pass null value,if value coming from db is null.Problem here is the field datatype is 'Decimal' so all the time even though value is null ,its passing as zero.How can I pass a null value to decimal field in C#.
FieldValue = (reader["Field"] ==
DBNull.Value) ?
Convert.ToDecimal(null) :
Convert.ToDecimal(reader["field"]);
What I want is ,Field value will get null value assigned not zero.

I have req where i have to check the value coming from db is null or not and assign value according to that.Problem here is the field datatype is 'Datetime' so all the time when I tried to use the below line of code its giving me error.How can I pass a null value to datetimefield if value coming from db is null.
(reader["FieldName"] == DBNull.Value) ? string.Empty : (DateTime?)(reader["FieldName"]);
I came to know that string.empty is making problem,what value we can pass instead of string.empty for a datetime column in C#.
What I want is ,Field value will get null value assigned not zero.

I wanted to get the total row count in a GridView's databound event handler, so I tried the following:
protected void grid_DataBound(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
GridView grid = (GridView)sender;
DataSet data = grid.DataSource as DataSet;
if (data == null)
return;
int totalRows = data.Tables[0].Rows.Count;
}
The problem is that the grid.DataSource property is null. The DataSourceID property is not null, so does that mean that I can't access the DataSource object in the DataBound event handler unless I assign the DataSource property directly?
Edit1: Here is the code in my GridHelper class for adding rowcount to the BottomPagerRow. I would like to get rid of the requirement to pass in the ObjectDataSource, but can't because I need to use the Selected event to get total row count. Hence the reason for the question. I also think this might be better in a custom control where I can access ViewState, and/or create child controls during the Init event (I still have a problem to resolve with the way the pager renders with an extra cell), but then I'd still have the problem of how to get to the total row count when the DataSource itself doesn't appear to be available in any GridView events.
Edit 2: Not really relevant to the specific problem, but I resolved the problem I was having with the pager rendering so i've updated the code posted. I found the trick here: [URL]

This is an ASP.NET 3.5 web app written in C# using VS2008 and connecting to an MS SQL backend. It is using ad hoc queries in a strongly typed dataset to pull from the database. This query (shortened for clarity) is designed to allow optional input of parameters (a requirement) or pull all records if no parameters are input. It works normally in SQL Server Management Studio with the addition of Declare and Set statements and it works normally in the TableAdapter's Query Builder:
[Code]....
The markup contains this ObjectDataSource, which is tied to the TableAdapter with the above query:
[Code]....
The problem I'm having is in passing null values to the ODS to feed to the query. Tying the ODS parameters directly to the dropdownlists and textboxes didn't work. Got an error message that there was a mismatched data type. Tried several combinations of code to feed the right values to the ODS parameters but couldn't find one that worked. Is the problem in the query or am I setting up the code-behind wrong? Here's the code:
[Code]....

I have asp.net form with C#, where is I am taking user information to insert in the database as usual by using Linq. well. Where as I am taking Date of birth also from the user, but if user skip to fill date text box from ui, then I am getting date like '01/01/0001' something like this, which certainly database security would not allow to store it.
So I need to check somewhere in my code that it is null or in this (above given) format. If it is null or in format '01/01/0001' then what exactly I have to do? I don't have any default
value for dates.
So what is the standard way to handle if date is null (but not mandatory). So many times I found myself in trap while handling null for various types.

In my project, I need to create a user control to handle the sorting and pagination of all the grids in the application. The grid however will be different in different pages with different formatting.
I am able to do this by exposing a property from user control which takes gridview as the input.
then in page load, i bind this grid, and assign the sorting and paging event handlers to this gridview variable.
This way I am able to do the sorting and paging, but the problem is I have to bind the grid in all the post backs, and then in the sorting and paging events.
So when a user sorts, I have to bind the grid twice, once in page_load and then in sort event of user control.
I can store the first set of records in viewstate and bind that in page load, but is there any other way, so that i dont need to bind the grid in all post backs but only inside of not postback.

I have 2 scenarios here for using the MaskedEditValidator for a date field. I'll start with the easier one first.
1) I have a date field. I want to set the MaskedEditValidator's minimum value property to TODAY's date. So for example, if the user enter's a date earlier than today, the AJAX control will show a message stating "you can't input a date earlier than today".
2) I have 2 date fields - 1st one is 'start date' and 2nd one is 'end date'. I want to set the MaskedEditValidator for the end date so that the minimum value property is the date from the 'start date' field. So this way, the user can't enter a date in the 'end date' field that is earlier than what is in the 'start date' field.
Are these 2 scenarios possible? Or should I try another option (Javascript, Jquery, etc...)?

I have this query:
[Code]....
I want to select dates that also fallin the range. Heres the scenario: I have an event from 01/20/2010 TO 01/25/2010. So right now it would only return a date of 01/20/2010. How could I return 01/20/2010, 01/21/2010 , 01/22/2010, 01/23/2010, 01/24/2010, 01/25/2010? Mind you only a start and end date are in the database.

I'm trying to work out how many 1st of Septembers have occurred between two dates.
i.e.
2009-05-1 and 2010-08-02 = 1
2009-05-1 and 2010-09-02 = 2
I know that we can do a dateDiff to determine the number of days between two dates, I'm just having trouble getting some logic together.

I use FormView with ObjectDataSource and class. I have a TextBox binded to a DateTime? property. When TextBox.Text property is empty i want to set the property of my class to null but the value is 1.1.1 00:00:00. My Workaround:

Is there a way to set this property to null without this workaround? Is this a bug in DataSource or is this a feature by design?

I want to calculate the number of HOLIDAYS between two given dates. For example, to count the number of 'Fridays' and 'Saturdays' and any other holiday (can get from another table) in between two given dates.
For example,
Start Date: 16/07/2010
End Date: 22/07/2010
Holiday: 19/07/2010
OUTPUT: 3 Holidays (Since there are only two Fridays and Saturdays and one Holiday)
do also note that it must include count if the starting day or ending day is a holiday.

A common problem in repeater controls where you want to display data for update (like a list of user phone numbers that can be updated and submitted back to the database) is where to store the database unique row identifier. So, I created a custom Textbox control that I've added a Data property to. I populate this data property with the unique row id. The problem is that when I post back the list and go through the repeater items the control's data property is null. The custom control looks like this:
[Code]....
The tag in the repeater looks like this:
[Code]....
I have a custom checkbox with the same data property and it works fine. I actually put in the same repeater with the textbox control and the checkbox control have the row id on postback but the textbox did not. Is there some limitation on the textbox control that might be causing this.
