I pass two parameters to my repository to return one record
I am strugling to wite the code to return one record.
Here is my repository-

I want to create a function which would have two parameters
public **XYZ** GetOputput(string strToConvert, **ABC**)
What I want from this function, that I will send a string to this function and the datatype in which I want to convert this string [Ex: Int32,Int64, datetime etc..] and the return will be the same as the datatype I have sent as the input parameter.
I want to have something like this in my function:

My problem with the following is how do I send the ModelStateErrors to the action Employee, when I go through the catch part in DeleteEmployee

Sometimes I need to get just one parameter from the out parameters, how can I call the function when I want to get just one:

I just struck upon a prime opportunity to further exhibit my MVC ignorance, by way of the following: How can one make use of a custom view model class that has parameters in the constructor? For example, a class that could intitialize various collections/properties based on an IPrincipal object passed in. I've come across several allusions to this scenario, involving a class inheriting DefaultModelBinder which overrides the CreateModel method, but have yet to find an example.

If i test the above url with the Route Debugger it corresponds to the above route ( and some other but this is the fist one in the list ) but if I create an url with the ActionLink

i just noticed that if my controller has a parameter with a name that matches the name of a field in my view model, and the view emits the value of the model's field, the value emitted is that passed in the query string, not the one set by the controller. is this by design?

I've seen/read plenty advocating "unobtrusive" JavaScript contained in separate files. I'm preparing to combine all my JavaScript from three partial views into a single file that I will then reference somewhere in my master.
My question is: is there any type of JavaScript that should remain behind in the html? One example that seems to me may present a problem would be something like:

I want to be able to do a join query between my two tables Accounts and BankTransactions. This is a one to many relationship, there can be multiple BankTransactions per Account. I want to query this and display the account information including all the bank statements that are associated with it. I did a join in order to get it, but I am having trouble handling the model. I keep getting this error:
LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.Collections.Generic.List1[MatchGaming.Models.BankTransaction] ToList[BankTransaction](System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable1[MatchGaming.Models.BankTransaction])' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression.
I followed this BRILLIANT article and found out how to make a data layer, i just need the insert method in this code to return the ID of the record inserted.

Curious what the best practice is for returning errors to a view from a controller where the error isn't really a validation error, but more like "user not found" or "service timeout" type of errors. (in ASP.NET MVC2 framework)
I've been adding them to the ModelState's model errors, but that doesn't seem appropriate. (although easy to implement and maintain)

Got a problem with regards to the file upload control on database updates. The problem is in my CMS, when a user tries to update content for a page it will add null to the fields containing the image path. What I need is for the system to check if the uploader has no image and if hasn't it has to do nothing. It can't add empty strings or null values as this will remove the original image path. Although they still need to be able to do image updates if the uploader has a file(this bits not a problem).

I have site that I need to have a vendor send an Http Post to us, using querystring parameters, then I have to look up some data and return a few results and parameters back to them. Can this be done using CLASSIC ASP? I ask this because I am still in a learning phase with .NET and have limited resources available to set up a web service.
View 2 RepliesIt seems like this would be fairly straight forward. I've got a gridview that loads up using one stored proc, but I've got a searchbox to filter the grid, and when the user enters some criteria I want to use a different proc to return the results. Something tells me I should be doing this with one procedure, but I can't seem to make that work either. When the form loads, my grid is populated. And if I leave my search criteria blank and search anyway, my grid is still populated correctly. But if I enter search creteria, I get diddley squat. What gives? Here is the relevent snippets.

vs2010, .NET 4.0I have a webmethod which I want to return a data record (for example: name, surename, address, age, zip etc)I wonder how to accomplish this. I think the solution is about creating an object which contains all the records serialized. And then the webmethod returns this serialized object. This returns a List<Movie> to the view that knows what to do with it. Is it possible that I create a method called MovieSet that returns a List<Movie> using a sql qry or a stored procedure call without the creation of an Object for this purpose ? Or do I need a Movie object? Lets say that I just to do my query, loading data into a dataTable and load that data to a list of movie objects. Because the code created by the Entity Framerwork is too big for a quick reading.

i've got a gridview and sql datasource. Its connected to a stored proc that has four optional parameters. In VS when i set up the data source, if i use the test option, and dont supply any values for the sproc, it returns all the values in the table which is what it should do. Now when i try to fill the gridview, it wont return anything at all unless i provide values for all 4 parameters.
It's not even trying to search because i had sql profiler open and nothing shows up until i provide all 4 values. any idea why it's doing this? How do i get it to actually bind even if provide less then all 4 (or none) of the values?
I want to return only the record or records from one table "tblUserInfo" to my details control where the records are related to the currently logged in user.
